1. I must be in a very small minority because I don't really mind nor care what the neck width or profile is, I feel quite happy playing any/either. I have a pencil necked early Warwick, a chunky full profiled Bolin (WoT loved this neck when he tried it as it was reminiscent of his vintage P basses), flat backed graphite Zon and a couple of other basses that fall between these and I've never felt that I found one better or more comfortable than another. A lot of that could be down to my playing style (thumb behind the neck not gripping it), whereas others with different styles might need a certain neck shape. One thing I HATE though is sharp un-radiused fingerboard edges! It would massively put me off a bass if it wasn't rolled on the edge or well played in.
 2.
so the answer, not worth doing! I may have to explore ebay, I've never used it before.
I used to love eBay... not so much these days! I'm sure you know how it works but necessary evils like; listing/final value fees, having to set up paypal accounts, paypal fees, money being held till buyers leave you feedback etc. these things will bug you but if you want to use eBay you have to play by their rules. Sometimes it is worth it but other times you wonder why you bother.
 3. Hey Luke unfortunately you'll be offered next to nothing... seriously next to nothing. As has been pointed out shops have to make money and they aren't in it for the odd £20-£30. As Loz has stated, the retailer will be selling for maybe a bit more than you have it advertised for BUT they have to factor in that someone will want to haggle and they have to factor in VAT (that one I still don't get but every time I ask about trading in at shops it gets quoted), they will want to make a couple of hundred as that's often the mark-up they have in the other stock. I'd say that you'd be offered at best a couple hundred quid and tbh I don't think you'd get a lot more if you were trading against something in the shop. The shop has you over a barrel; you NEED to sell it, they don't need to buy it as they have sufficient new stock to worry about selling! eBay may be your best bet especially if you offer shipping to Europe.
 4.
Kubicki, best slap bass - check Vail Johnson
Just checked out this example... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k3kqYDm44M Purely commenting on the tone of the bass I'd have to say that I actually preferred the fingerstyle tone of the Kubicki rather than the slap tone.
 5. +1 to most of the above and don't forget that whatever guitarists can do with a pic, bassists can do it better; try pinched harmonics with a pick... it sounds mint and really messes with your guitarists head!
 6.
I can't help but admire your use of a bass stand neck clip nailed to the wall to hold your french doors open. A good illustration as it is juxtaposed with the one that bass is sitting in. ;-) oh, nice bass by the way................ A
Yes, the newly built garage didn't have dampers for the doors so I improvised... glad you didn't notice that the white 'stopper' retaining the neck clip was actually the rubber feet off a bass cab painted white!
 7.
You really are going to have to stop posting pics of that green Bolin WH, every time i see it i want one but can't afford it. I love the headstocks on those, a fretless version would be my dream bass Very cruel!
Sorry! If it helps; if you find an Amber one I'll let you have my Green one... and I'll get it defretted.
 8.
Owen!!!
Yep that's the other one (pictured above).
 9.
Just bought a couple of Leatherman tools from John. Top Bloke - Has some top kit too - always better than he lets on. Bob.
Cheers Bob. If anyone needs/wants a stocking filler or something for their gigbag/toolbox, give me a shout as I have a large collection of various used (but excellent condition) Leatherman and Victorinox tools; from genuine Leatherman MICRA for £5 to Leatherman PST and KICK for £15... and a whole bunch of other stuff besides!
 10.
Bet it's a bit out of my price range though hehe.
Not sure what your price range is but it's one of those 'if you need to ask, you can't afford one' type basses!
 11. It's back and relisted for £4k... bargain! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:SS:GB:1123
 12. I think that there are only two Bolin basses on Basschat (I used to own the other one as well ) and possibly only a couple more in the whole of the UK, so this may be undersubscribed with owners but I think the Bolin deserves it's own porn thread! The 4 string that I now own... The 5 string that I sold on Basschat and has passed around a couple of others... Made by John Bolin and designed by Ned Steinberger, these basses were only produced for a short period, though still available as a custom option from Bolin/'House of Guitars' (JB's new name for his Bolin Co.). John makes custom guitars and basses for the likes of Billy F. Gibbons, Jimmy Page, Steve Miller, Dusty Hill, Lou Reed, Doc Watson, Albert King, Bo Didley, Joe Perry, and Keith Richards & Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones. They are fabulous basses and the piezo tone (if the bass has that option; both of the above do) is truly excellent. The piezo can be soloed and it has a lovely airy breathiness to it, or if blended with the EMG magnetics it can add a pleasing top end. The locking sperzels are great. The arm extension is a stroke of genius (even if you do have to watch out for the screw working loose, the old matchstick and UPVA glue sorts it). The overall tone is superb BUT some folks have commented that it doesn't do that Miller slap thang... not the end of the world and tbh I've managed to get a decent slap tone for the odd thumb n pop. All in all I think they are an excellent bass and the Bolin that I now have will never be for sale (refer me to this thread if you ever see me contemplating it), in fact I'd happily buy another but it would need to be the colour of my old 5 string.
 13.
maybe contact someone there? i believe the main guy is Steve grey/gray...
Over the years, Steve's been involved in one way or another with quite a few of the major Music shops in Newcastle. IIRC he then worked for Fender or one of the biggie manufacturers before GuitarGuitar. re. importing and taxes; 'IF' Lakland will sell direct, you can expect (i.e. you will) to pay about 22% in various fees and remember that tax is on the TOTAL inc' shipping fees!
 14.
Fair enough, and wouldn't it be a boring world if we all liked the same things.
Very true! We're not hi-jacking the thread, I'm sure honest and open views about the merits of the various drivers and cabs will interest people looking at a thread about the new Aggies.
 15.
Don't worry about that. There is no sacrifice in tone whatsoever by moving to a Barefaced Midget.
Unfortunately Frank I've tried the Midget and it wasn't to my taste... each to his own but I stuck with the DBs!
 16.
Bug... I can see why though..not hankering after NEO's against a 40lb cab anyway..but I hear your cabs are in good nick so I would have been after them oh well..keep looking..
I keep thinking that something that weighed next to nothing like the Barefaced or many of the Neo cabs, would be worth the sacrifice in tone (just my opinion but I've yet to be blown away by the tone of Neo cabs regardless of whether it is cab design or the driver) but whenever I A/B Neo/DB cabs the DBs just suit me better!
 17. Is that a 'normal' LX as it appears to have a splated top? I'm not that up on the latest LX models but I thought that they were generally flame maple bodies... saying that if you paid £1800 then it may be the SE version.
 18.
"THE" PF tribute mate , Shine On
I remember seeing that advertised on BGG and wondered who had the gig.
 19. That looks smart as Dave, another fine looking job by DW! It does raise one question... what bliddy PF trib band have you joined like?
 20. I have the self same trouble. There are light basses out there but to save yourself grief I'd define what you mean by light! IMHO it needs to be lighter than 9lb to qualify as light, whereas I've bought basses off Basschat whereby owners have made claims of 'featherweight' and 'the lightest bass I've ever owned'... one can only assume that the latter comment was from someone economical with the truth, who has only ever owned one bass as the bass in question was closer to 11lb! The Fender Precision Lyte basses are pretty light and many of the new CV Jazz and Precision basses are around about 9lb (the two I've owned were just over). Though many claim that the Lakland Skylines 'can' be light I've yet to find one that is genuinely under 9lb (x2 DJ's were both way over 9lb and the JO was the 11lb offender). As has been mentioned there is the 'cricket bat' option and SOME hollowbodies (though beware some of them have solid cores and the extra large body size on some, really bumps the weight), such as the violin basses. If your budget stretches you can find some very lightweight Warwick Streamer basses but they need to be the early to mid 80's ones; I have two, one of them is 7lb 7oz the other about 8lb. I also have a Zon Sonus which is 8.5lb. The obvious which I'm sure you already do is to wear a nice wide strap. Best of luck from a fellow sufferer.
 21.
Hopefully, that will free up a few DB112's around here
Not mine... I'm not trading down to Neos!
 22.
MB1. Nobody?
What's a trade for a short Mono strap worth... genuine!
 23.
Very nice indeed, and only slightly spoiled by the fact that they all probably sound like Jimmy Nail when they talk.
Phwargh... someone get me their telephone numbers noo!
 24.

Tell me you weren't tempted to step up to that mic and shout "Good evening Newcastle"!
