It looks like it could be from the budget/mid-price range of Ibanez, Yamaha or any one of a large handful of manufacturers. However, that doesn't mean to say that it won't be a phenomenal sounding and playing bass but on first impressions it doesn't look to be pushing too many boundaries.

4's Each to his own but I've never found a B string that I like the sound of when played open (that has included 35" scale basses) and for the sake of an extra 5 (3 if I drop tune the E) notes to add to the 96 I presently have available on my 4 string basses... I'll pass.

As there is no obvious structural damage to the cab I'd be surprised if the driver has failed as a result of being chucked around. From experience drivers are pretty robust, though other components may not be. I'd be inclined to check X-overs etc to see if anything has come loose and to ensure that it is the driver I'd fit it into a different cab and see if it is a 'fail'... alternatively bypass the wiring and x-over and try a direct connection to the back of the driver to see that it functions.

I much prefer a Precision! Mine is dead lightweight, has the skinniest neck and is never dull and thuddy... Oh and did I mention it was a thru-neck and is active! OK I'm extracting the urine but it begs the question 'What defines something as a 'Precision' bass'? Does it have to be by Fender? Is it compulsory to be passive? Have the name Precision written on it? Is it the outline shape that makes it a Precision or the pup mounted on that body? Is it still a Precision if someone makes it in the classic P bass shape with the appropriate pup but makes it neck-thru? Answers on the back of a postage stamp.

I assume you are talking about a combo with a single internal driver that is 8ohm, if so you really only have 2 choices as a dummy load would be pointless; 1) A second 8ohm cab 2) Replacement speaker rated at 4ohms (200/300/400/500w wouldn't worry me personally but for your peace of mind the higher the better) but to ensure you retain a similar tone you'd need to research that the new driver was correctly spec'd for the size of the box... saying that, just chucking in a decent 4 ohm driver has 'the potential' to work equally well or better!

It'll cost you hundreds to get a good job done (and it'd be a crime to cut corners on a bass like that) and you will NEVER increase the value of the bass with a refinish... if anything it is a guaranteed value dropper! So you are looking at spending several hundred pounds to change what is already a perfectly good colour and in the process you may well devalue the bass by as much as it costs to have refinished; it's a no-brainer for me that it should stay as is. Oh and I speak from experience. Having had several basses refinished to a spec/colour I like to find that I was never 100% happy with the bass and it was nowt to do with the colour.

Might be worth mentioning that you are in Budapest!

Think I'll go back and have a listen to one or two of these though.
