1. Can I just add one thought/comment into the mix. All of the discussion about pick-ups adding/subtracting/altering tone and what differences there are between 10"/12"/15" speakers (different thread but relevant... I think any way), I've found that passing a bass that I've just played to another bassist and them playing through the same rig on the same settings can be like chalk and cheese; added to which changing your brand/gauge/material of string can have a more dramatic effect on your sound than any pup change might have. Just saying.
2. EMGs were the 'must have' upgrade for many basses/bassists back in the 80's and I loved them in my basses; The Bass Doc on this forum will likely have fitted more of these EMGs to P basses over the last 25 years than any other modification (I'll give him a nudge for his opinion). Some say they are sterile others will say they let the sound of your instrument come through uncoloured... oddly enough I always found that they were as warm sounding and un-sterile as any active pup. It's like anything though, it'll not make a sh*tty plank sound brilliant and if your bass has decent pups in then it'll just give you a slightly different tone. It's probably easier if you identify what it is about your stock pups that has you looking at replacements.
3.
Does he just have some really nice stuff and just shows it off on eBay?
Aside from the long running issue/feud over an 'allegedly' refinished CAR Jazz, 2-G-A would appear able to unearth a regular supply of museum quality stock. However, from reading his descriptions over the years the devil is in the detail; you have to read his ads as if they were written by an Estate Agent and it can be as much what is not said, as what is said!
4. Always liked the look of these 'Paisley' basses but a bit rich for me; good luck with the sale though.
5.
I once left my octave pedal in Stockholm. Guess it's not completely the same thing though.
Not unless your bass was still plugged into it!
6.
SHAZAM! Wish I'd tuned the bass first, though...
What do you mean? The bass was in tune when I bought it! I'm not going to get mired in the argument about more bottom end out of 15's versus 10's 12's etc but I can assure you that Howie's 15" EV's (no tweeter) had as much top end as any set-up on the day of that Mini bass bash. Coincidentally my Aggies tested, have only one tweeter between them and I always have it backed off 50%.
7. Ah! '2-gnome-attic'... say no more.
8. My cabs get raised approx 10cm off the floor on my Gramma Pad... sorted, so need for anything else!
9. I normally carry all my own gear to gigs in my car but we were doing a big charity bash last night and we had a van. Collected at 5.30 and we had to rearrange some of the gear already in the van to get in the PA equipment stored at mine. All packed off we go to the gig where we arrive to find loads of people milling about inc' three bands (we all know each other) helping each other carry in various equipment... excellent camaraderie! As the PA belongs to me I end up setting most of it up myself before I turn to set my gear up; where's my bass? AAAARGH! 'Where the cufk is my BASS' Much searching turns up nothing; 13 guitar cases double checked to see if one is mine, van searched... panic ensues (on my part) and I'm frantically phoning home to ask if my bass is sitting on the drive, not there. My bass is nowhere to be found, utter devastation on my part and much self chastisement for being so cuffin lax and letting other people take charge of my gear (which I NEVER usually do). Then... phone call from the Mrs, it's in the garage down beside some shelving, someone obviously moved my bass to one side when we were loading the lights and PA. It's unlikely that you can know how bad that feels unless it's happened to you before! Any similar experiences?
10. Had this for a few years but it's sat in the original box (with instructions) since I used it once for a musical production of Bugsy! ;D It's the updated silver model not the black one. £25 +postage
11. What it says in the title; made by Shadow, fits into the soundhole of your acoustic guitar. Comes with an endpin to fit to your guitar or alternatively, if you don't want it to be permanent, then the wire terminates in a minijack which you can plug into a lead/adapter. £25
12. Black metal (no not satanic rock) 19" wide rack trays (365mm deep) 1U high with a pair of rackmount holes on each side. I have 3 available, they are probably £15 a piece new but to save haggling I'll take £15 for the 3 or £7 each +Postage. These are predrilled with 4 small holes to accept receivers but easily drilled to accept a variety of non-standard rackmount equipment; I had a 4th one that I drilled to accept the amp section from a combo in order that I could put it in a rackcase, worked a treat.
13. MM's signature set (45 - 105), brand new in packaging, never fitted to a bass (no shrinkwrap outer cover though). Bought these on the spur of the moment as I didn't have any of my usual DR Sunbeams but I then realised that they were steels NOT nickels and I don't like the feel of steels! £20 (decent saving on shop price £30) or will swap for a similarly new/unused set of flats or Sunbeams. Sold and gone!
14. I've shipped cabs with Interparcel but I'd double check on the maximum weight (normally around £15 if you don't need extra insurance). I recall shipping a Tecamp Neo 6x10 and it was about £40 due to the extra insurance.
15.
Looks nice. http://www.fmraudio.com/rnp.htm
So the OP title says FNR but it's actually FMR... it gets worse!
16. I had to Google that to understand what is for sale and I'd just like to say that FNR want shooting for naming this product thus!
17.
Why not go the whole hog and have a precision modded to be a Jazz (Like Wille Weeks'/Clarky's Alleva)? Jazz bass sound with precision ergonomics. Problem solved. It's a step better than the PJ idea for me - PJ doesn't do the 'role-off-1-pickup-slightly' sound due to the mismatch in the pickup types.
I've owned a couple PJ Precision basses and I think my next modded bass may well be a JJ Precision bass... in fact the skeleton bass is on its way to me as we speak. Just need to find a Bartolini PJ set (I need the PJ to compliment the Bart PJ set I already have as the pair of P pups are going into a Warwick).
18.
Hiya, I've got some pyramid gold flats I'm not using - I'm up for a swap if you fancy. Not sure I have a use for the la bella's immediately but maybe more long term I will. Jas
Are they new and previously unfitted Jas?
19. Brand new set of unused La Bella's which I'd like to trade/swap for a set of chrome or nickel flat wound strings; Pyramid Golds would be good and pref in 40-100 gauge... long shot but worth a try.
20.
Hey ya mate! Thanks so much for posting a pic, It looks like this tray will be too deep for me specifically at 365mm. I can go to 300mm max - but I guess someone with a full depth rack case will be fine with. Again, cheers, I appreciate it - but I think Bottle's tray will be right for my gear.
No worries... time to stick them up for sale any way!
21. I had an Ex-Factor when they were fairly new basses and IIRC I specifically bought heavy gauge strings and that I ensured that the strings didn't have a stepped taper that started just after the nut... the Ex-Factor has a shorter scale on the A/D/G strings and is it standard or slightly longer on the E? You've got me thinking now!
