1. I had a Tech Soundsystems amp (one of their most expensive ones) and not having had problems in the past with previous amps and Phantom Power, I hooked it up to our desk which had the PP 'on' for the drummers mic's; it simply fried the DI... not a great feeling and necessitated the use of a line-out to the desk which worked OK! As BFM says for what it costs to ensure this doesn't happen it seems ridiculous that all amps don't have the DI isolated.
 2. Next step up for a Precision... stick a Jazz pup in it for somewhere to rest your thumb!
 3.
I've decided this thread needs a little update Initial impressions were good, after that I sort of lost my way a bit and wasn't quite sure about this bass. Having recently stuck the TI flats back on it I'm totally loving it, there is something about rounds and modern sounding basses that I can't quite get my head around. I guess its just not the "tone" that I'm looking for. So I've recorded and rehearsed a bit with this and really enjoyed it, just need to gig it now for the full picture. I'm considering it a keeper after all...the tony franklins future is looking a bit iffy
Gorgeous bass... if you 're'consider I have a 2009 Fender PJ or a Warwick PJ if you fancy a bit of cash in hand!
 4.
Hello! Following a sting of robberies in my area, my parents have begun looking at the home insurance. They have reciepts for pretty much everything they own of value, However my bass doesnt have one, as i didnt buy it new. in the event of a robbery, would i be screwed?, is there any way i could get it covered under the home insurance? how do they know i had it? do i just need pictures of it etc? They all are worth under £900 easily if that is of relevance.
Do you want the black and white answer or the grey one? I'll outline the B&W one and you can fill in the gaps for the grey one! B&W - If you are a gigging musician who gets paid for what you do then you need to inform the insurance company of such and they will then work out the premiums accordingly. Grey - If you are a gigging musician who gets paid for what you do then 'technically' you need to inform the insurance company as such and they will then work out the premiums accordingly.
 5.
"or whether it has a JAN I or JAN II nut" Er whassat?
Put it this way, if you were selling an expensive Warwick bass and didn't know anything about Jan I/II/III I'd be a 'little' uneasy. Seriously it relates to sellers knowing specific terminology for what they are selling... 'stack-knobs' may mean different things to different people but if someone were selling a vintage Jazz that had this feature and hadn't the foggiest idea what it was then alarm bells might ring!
 6.
would you consider selling the aerodyne on its own?? cheers
If you do sell the Aerodyne, I have a couple of NT Warwick Streamers coming up for sale!
 7. I always knew that I would eventually settle on an NS/Streamer bass but it's taken me an age to find 'the one' (despite thinking I was there on a few occasions) but I've finally got 'it' and consequently my collection of basses are going to be whittled away! Peace at last. Amps and cabs... the Thunderfunk will unlikely ever be beaten IMHO but cabs are still a bit of a bugbear as I want the tone I get from my Aggie DB12's but with 50% of the weight.
 8. This is not meant to be an exhaustive or definitive list but simply a few guidelines generated from my experiences and intended for those with no, or limited experience, of buying from a private individual on an open forum. Follow all or some of the following rules and you might keep your hard-earned money a little safer. 1. First and most importantly – If something is too good to be true, then it probably is! If you are uncomfortable dealing with strangers over the Internet and it doesn’t feel right, leave it well alone, there will be another item along soon. 2. If someone registers on a site and immediately tries to sell something (especially expensive items) then unfortunately in my humble opinion it is probably better to assume that they are a scammer and that they are ‘guilty till proven innocent’! Harsh you say? YES but at least that way you don’t lose your money at the first hurdle. If someone joining a forum to sell something is genuine, then in order to gain trust they should be prepared to accept that they ‘may’ need to prove that they are who they say they are and that they really do have a particular item to sell. 3. Communicate with the seller. Be pleasant but don’t be afraid to ask questions… lots of them. If they are reluctant to respond then they may not know what they are doing. Ask targeted questions about the item and use technical vocabulary; if they don’t know the scale length, pick-up type or whether it has a JAN I or JAN II nut on their $3000 bass, what the heck are they doing owning it. 4. Ask for more pictures of the bass and BE SPECIFIC, ask for a close up shot of the back of the headstock, close up of the 12th fret inlay or whatever. If they can’t supply the images requested because the camera is broken or the bass is boxed up at a friend’s house ask them to borrow a camera/unpack the box and don’t accept stock pictures from the Manufacturers site etc. 5. If they are selling a Warwick Streamer P-Nut bass (insert bass model of your choice), put that title into the image search of a couple of search engines (Google etc.) and see if the image of the bass appears, the more time you have to check past the first page the better. 6. Do a search for the identical item in any online auction or sale sites (eBay, Craigslist, Gumtree, SuperAds etc.) you’d be amazed how often scammers just get images and descriptions from sales and post them verbatim. 7. Get a landline, mobile phone number and address from the seller; check if the phone number is in the phone book (not the end of the world if it isn’t as many are ex-directory)… and call them! You’d be amazed how people assume because they’ve been given a number that it must be OK. Put the address you’ve been given into something like Google Earth; does the address exist! 8. Ask if they are registered on any other forums, eBay Talkbass Basschat etc and do they have any feedback. If yes, check to see if the language used is similar to that used when communicating with you i.e. are they communicating with you in Pigeon English yet their posts on a forum are quite fluent. Also, if they give you a user ID’s on another forum, send PMs to those IDs to see what comes back as they may have given you a random ID that has a good rating but nothing to do with them. 9. Ask for the name of the band that they play in, then simply do an online search of their band name and location. It’d be unusual in this day and age for something not to flag up at all and if they’re selling a quality bass and/or gig rig yet claim they aren’t in a band... beware. 10. Check the person’s name, band name or user ID with Myspace, Facebook, Twitter or any of the social networking sites, does it tally with the location given? 11. Sleep on it, things can look different in the cold light of the next day. Don’t rush in and part with your money on first sight. 12. If you have doubts, ask other people what they think about a particular item (site Moderators in particular). If all of the above seems a lot of hassle you should either go back to point 1) and act accordingly OR you seem to have plenty of spare cash that you are happy to gamble. A few points of note: Payment is a ‘whole new ballgame’! This is simply my observations and guidelines that I adhere to. You may wish to add many of your own and even if a seller ticks everyone of the above boxes and you still feel uncomfortable… walk away. Not everyone who registers for the first time on a forum is a scumbag scammer. I am a cynical owld git… but I’ve not been scammed yet despite many years on eBay and (too) numerous National and International sales on various forums. ;0)

 10.
Of course you could always buy it, replace the bridge with a stock Fender type (cheap) then sell the BA on eBay for £80ish http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT That makes for an even cheaper bass!
... or even £130!!!
 11.
Do tell?
May well do very shortly!
 12.
You ever noticed that 2/3 of BC's membership appears to be in Bristol?
Good to know that because if a bass doesn't turn up at mine soon then I may well be calling upon a handful of Bristol BCers (rather than BCer's Bristols) to go knocking on a door in the very near future!
 14. No it isn't! It even tells you what it is on the headstock you fool. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Aerodyne-Jazz...=item19bd31776d
 15. Stop your jibber-jabber and get this bash sorted then!
 16.
I am NOT a Fender expert, but description & photos both say 1972 bass with the wrong neckplate to me. Nice restoration judging by the (not awfully good) photos, and even with the non-original bits that should still go for about a grand IMO.
Tend to agree with you HJ. However, IF the seller went to the trouble of having the bass 'professionally' restored, it may be that the seller is hoping to get good 60's money for it. Time will tell if the reserve is hit.
 17. Possibly £100 more than you wanted to pay but the extra versatility built in with the rear pup (but you don't need to use it if you don't want to)... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...r+Precision+usa The neck is a lot more manageable than many P basses that I've tried.
 18. If you decide to sell them and the price is right ( ) I'll take the lot, with the exception of the slightly used set.
 19. Both links are for the same listing Dave.
 20.
Have you strill got the standard Fender pups with it? PM sent.
No, I believe the original P pup was retained by The Gallery. As Fender don't do a 2009 USA PJ bass that I am aware of I may have just taken for granted that folks would have realised that this is a USA P bass (not the old 'standard' P bass mind) with the J pup fitted after but I think it best to make that clear.
 21.
Are you open to offers?
'Very' near ones for cash!
I'll vouch for the awesomeness of this bass. It lived with me for a few months while I came to the slow realisation that I need 5 strings and no frets. Buy with confidence, people. This is a lot of bass for not much money, and John's one of the nicest guys alive.
Cheers Owain.
Weight of the 'possible' p/x - as best I can show it - yes I know I need some new bathroom scales !!
Nice scales but I'd need it to be a lot more accurate.
 22. I hope the eBay Police don't pick up on "No PayPal"... that's an instant tug for the listing!
 23. There's a maple boarded version on eBay at the minute... sans Jazz pup! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USA-Fender-Precision...4#ht_500wt_1154 The case etc. is the same as this one.
 24. I'm going to replace this with a cheaper bass (possibly a P/PJ bass, so will accept those in part-ex), as it is only being used as a back-up bass and that's a bit daft! It is a 2009 USA Fender P bass which had the P pup replaced with a Nordstrand and the J Nordstrand pup fitted all done by The Gallery; at the same time they fitted the Badass III bridge which retains the original thru-body stringing. The bass is immaculate and comes complete with the latest Fender hardcase with the 4 clasps, all case candy and truss rod bar is there. These latest models really are cracking basses, with great attention to detail like rolled fingerboard edges etc. the bass has approximately £250 worth of extras added. The bass is 9lb in weight and any subsequent trade offer would have to be a 'maximum' of 9lb but ideally lighter. The only other bass I'd be interested in is probably a MM Sterling ideally in a sunburst/cherryburst. [s]£750[/s] £725
