1963 Precision on t'bay. Genuine ?
warwickhunt replied to Gray's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Mind I'd be knocking £20-£30 off for a new set of strings... saying that you could probably sell a set of 47 year old flats on here! -
I'm seeing that as still active with 4 days left to go and a bid of £25!

Fretless Warwick Dolphin 5 on ebay
warwickhunt replied to sshorepunk's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That's a bit of an odd one that. Very cheap without a doubt but it didn't start life off as fretless. The pups are unusual in as much as the Dolphin 5 'normally' has a twin J @ the bridge and a single J @ the neck. I also seriously doubt that the bass is a 94; I'd have put that as a very early 5 string Dolphin, not as late as 94! -

As a young aspiring bassist I always lusted after one of these and even remember going into Newcastle and collecting all of the latest catalogues (inc the one pictured) to sit a drool over at my leisure/pleasure... and no that isn't a euphemism for anything else! Unfortunately these days the weight would likely cripple me.

You'll require some form of active X-over to do this any justice G, added to which what cabs do you intend utilising? There's an almost identical thread/question asked every couple of months (in fact an identical one started today on the Warwick forum) so it might be of use to search the site for previous suggestions/ideas.
How much grit you can get out of these amps?
if not, and they should be prepared to receive get bad feedback. so be it.
Whether you think this is wrong or right is another debate/matter but the seller CAN'T leave the buyer negative feedback even if they wanted to! I personally think that if someone had lived close enough to go and verify what exactly this is, then it would have been fine for them to decide whether to bid or not. However, for someone to bid so high on something that is in doubt (cheap mind if it is what it 'could' be) shows recklessness or greed and they now have to make that decision as to what they do. I have to say that the seller gave all the warning signs in the listing that this probably isn't a pukka late 70's Jazz so I'm not sure that you can lay blame at their door, the seller is certainly guilty of being economical with the truth, enough to leave it ambiguous to draw in the unwary... though if anyone had read this thread in the lead up the end of the listing they'd hardly have been unaware of the potential for a big fat FAIL!
Hey Chris you've got no need for any new basses with those 3 beauties !!! Oh by the way forgot to say..... it's on the lighter side of mid weight for a Jazz I think it passed the Warwickhunt weight test - LOL !!! ATB Mark
Just leave it right! Just cos I've accidentally sold our house this week and I'm desperately searching for somewhere new to rest my basses (before I have to move in with the In-Laws) doesn't mean to say that you can rub this in. This is yet another lush bass from Monsieur L -
Wat just messing when i said that, hadn't actually looked at the link and though he was looking for a grand for RH450!
Phew! Thought I'd lost the plot with the price of used gear.
Well, guess you could call that a great price
Just going off prices I can find in mainstream stores you could get the pair for £1200, so I guess The Bass Merchant might discount that and you would be getting full manufacturers warranty and delivery... not sure for the sake of of £100-£150 I'd take a used eBay item over a shop supplied new item!

The guy wants £1000 for it and I got the impression that if it doesn't hit that (regardless of no reserve) then he ain't selling it!
Not sure there could be a case in this instance....
Agreed. As stated much earlier the; the seller well and truly covered his backside by stating he had no idea about what the bass 'might' or 'might not' be, other than a Fender with said neck plate. I hope gareth has learned some sense from this experience (along with a few others) though technically he would be in breach of contract if he didn't buy it... maybe a bit more forethought next time!
He asked (publicly) for an opinion on his price I found it unreasonable (to me) and like others gave him a different figure. However, if someone posts a bass for sale with a solid price (Not asking for an opinion) and someone criticises the price in public then that could be a warnable offense.
Sorry but when I viewed the first post it HAS a fixed price on; I assume this was edited after comments were posted. Either way there is now a fixed price so we'll wish ialma good luck with his sale.

re. paypal/eBay supporting buyers in favour of sellers. There was a documented case on this forum during the latter part of last year with a dispute over a basses authenticity; eBay found in the buyer's favour (a registered BCer) and refunded him the money... he also kept the bass with no recriminations from eBay or PayPal! That sounds far fetched and I struggled to believe it but on a MUCH smaller scale I had a similar experience very recently when I purchased a £10 vinyl LP and reported to eBay that it was scratched despite the fact it was described as mint (even had a hole in the middle - sad English joke for our American cousin). eBay quickly found in my favour and refunded me; not once was I asked to return the LP and it still sits here waiting for the seller to contact me!
It's worth about £800. I had one many years ago... these basses have an awesome feel, nothing to share with the other Ibanez instruments. Spoombung was looking for an AFR but in 4 strings configuration, I fear. Anyway... very nice instrument!

Its not so much what the bass is up for sale for. Generally the reason they are for sale is because people wont buy it for the price displayed. Its only worth as much as people are willing to pay for it. You want to look at Affirmas that have sold and take an average price from that. In this case i reckon £600 but thats my own guess.
Surely the OP has put a price on and I was under the impression that the rules are that PMs are appropriate if you disagree with the valuation! I've been looking for a 4 string version of one of these so it's unfortunately no good to me.

Honestly stop worrying. I've driven the same 350w PA cabs hard (i.e. a whole 4 piece pub rock band inc drums) with a 1200w power amp (but never with anything going into clipping) for 15 years with not one bit of a problem, I've also used 200w bass cabs with 1000w power amps and conversely a 1600w bass cab with a 150w amp and so long as you listen to what the cab is doing you won't come to any harm. The odd fart/noise from your drivers and they are telling you something is working too hard and you need to adjust something accordingly... just use some common sense. Oh and in 30+ years of playing all sorts of music through all kinds of bass cabs whilst owning and being in charge of all manner of PA systems I've only ever had one speaker fail... and that was a new driver at 'house' volumes, so it was the driver at fault not the use! Oh Oh I've said it now.
The Tech 21 trademark 60 is a high-end solid state guitar amp. Entirely analogue, with reverb and 2 foot-switchable channels, each with 2 voices, it'll cover pretty much everything from the Fender twin through Voxy tones to cranked Marshall. It's also light at 36lb, but will happily keep up with a drummer and is fine for medium sized gigs. It also has a decent DI output and can be daisy-chained with the powerengine 60 self-powered extension cabs for more volume. Read more here: http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/amps/gui...rademark60.html I've had it nearly a year and when I've used it it's always sounded good: I've been surprised at how well such a small amp can fill a large space (300 seater hall). But I also have a number of other great guitar amps, and I don't have a bass amp. So I'd like to either trade this for a mediumish bass rig - say a 2X10 cab and appropriate head or a combo of some kind, maybe a little cash either way, or sell for £200 ono. I can deliver anywhere between North Oxon and Fleet in Hampshire, and if you'd like to try it then let me know. Pics later.
I have one of these as a house practice amp for my bass and for the odd school production where I have to double on (strummed) guitar; our guitarist has borrowed it and is always complimentary about it, I'll see if he's interested BUT it would require carriage to Newcastle.
Whenever I've done St. Paddy's gigs, whochever band I was in has usually just hoyed a couple of diddly-diddly tunes into the set, and Fisherman's Blues by those very Irish Waterboys, and we've got away with it...
Oh and surely 'Whiskey in the jar(o)'!

The tone of the Stingray is to a greater extent the pup/preamp combination and by that I mean the interaction between the two parts, which is funny as I always tend to consider that with the NT Warwick basses it is the combination of woods and neck/body construction that give them their signature sound! You can swap out the pup on an Ray and it will still retain a similar tone, you can swap out the preamp and again it'll retain much of the tone BUT of the different combinations that I've heard it is the EB/MM pup AND EB/MM preamp that tends to give that classic tone. Don't get me wrong, fitting different pups and preamps doesn't always alter the tone significantly but I've tended to think that the original tends to be the one sure fire way of hitting that classic sound.
the only downfall is that it weighs like 16 or 17 lbs
PLEASE tell me you jest!
