This is a far better quality than the II I had, so I really don't know what to think.[/quote] I'm not disputing that some basses will be better than others but the Pro I 'v' Pro II question isn't really an issue as the Dolphin Pro I bass is, and always has been a neck-thru instrument and the designation Pro II has always been attributed to the bolt-on neck basses. The 'I' and 'II' marker was to differentiate between NT & BO basses not to differentiate between a mkI (earlier) or a mkII (later) bass. If you've owned a pair of BO neck Dolphin basses then you've owned a pair of Pro II basses. You'd be right in thinking that the Pro II is a stonking bass, in fact the reason that they stopped producing them was because they were financially a nightmare for Warwick and they gave the Pro I NT bass a good run for it's money.

Any info would be gratefully recieved[/quote] It's actually a Dolphin Pro II bass that you have, Pro I basses are NT basses. If it happens to say Pro I on the truss rod cover then someone has retrofitted it at some stage in it's life. When they originally tried to introduce these in 90/91 the production wasn't 'in-house' but was subcontracted to a German company, however Warwick weren't happy with QC and I don't think they ever went into full production. Production was immediately moved to Japan where they were produced as your bass is with JJ pups and there were a variety of colours, I can't recall ever seeing a natural finish bass (no CS as there was no such thing in the Japanese production) and I don't think I've seen too many red/black basses. As you say they are a lovely bass and the necks are significantly slimmer than virtually any of the later BO basses. What year is your bass? <edit> I was asking about the year as I can't recall if these basses ceased production in the 90's or if they managed to continue into the next Millennium.

My 89 Streamer Stage I doesn't flare out or thicken up much as you go up the neck, my Zon is similar; from memory are Rics fairly slim? I suppose ultimately you need to look at string spacing at the bridge; a bass with skinny bridge spacing is going to have a narrower neck.

Is there any sure way of knowing apart from the manufacturers specs?[/quote] From first hand observations it seems to vary between every manufacturer but as a rule of thumb I've tended to knock a 1/3 OP off when going to 8 ohms; though saying that if your cab is sensitive it can appear to make little difference and it is debatable as to whether you'd hear the difference between 300 & 400 watts any way!

Answering #2 - if 4 ohms gets you 600w, it's likely to put out closer to 400-450w @ 8 ohms. There is a 50w discrepancy as on the face of it, you'd think it would be a simple mathematical calculation but I've yet to see a standard equation for working it out; as a rule it's normally about 2/3... sometimes + a bit! Still a healthy output.
