Yes, that was my thinking. I assume the proximity of the desk router isn't helping (5-10m away)? I'm about to trial a cheapie 5.ghz system and if the drop out ceases/eases, I'll look at an upgrade. I've read/reread your excellent IEM bible so many times and the wired IEM is starting to work for me BUT I need to go wireless at some point but don't want to regress and induce more issues. Time will tell.

Can anyone give me some feedback / insight into my recent experiences. Guitarist and I (band #1) have been using Line 6 G50 systems for at least 7 year, with no issues of drop out etc; he also uses an X-Vive IEM system (I don't but I am trialling wired IEMs). About 12 - 18 months ago we started using a Soundcraft Ui16 desk in band #1 and I started experiencing occasional interference/drop out, it was initially so infrequent I barely noticed and neither I nor the guitarist mentioned it to each other. We formed a new band together (band #2) along with another guitarist about 6 months ago and that guitarist also uses an IEM X-Vive but no guitar wireless system. However, when band #2 started gigging, I had signal loss every gig and coincidently the guitarist in band #1 had gone to a different system for his guitar (one of the Harley Benton/Thomann ones)! I realise we have more systems in the band but it is still only 4 and we select different channels etc, some are 2.ghz and some 5ghz but the desk has a router which I think 'might' be part of the issue. Added to which, one of the gigs was crazy for drop out of my wireless and at the end of the set (I swapped to a lead after 2 songs) I checked my phone for available devices/routers/wireless... there were 22 available! I was within 2-3m of my receiver when doing this gig, so I assumed signal strength would be strong and counter any others. I realise I don't need any radio equipment if I'm within metres of my gear but I'm also trialling IEM with a wired connection and 2 cables going to to units on my belt or strap is a chew especially when putting on/taking off my bass and IEM AND going out front to check the band mix. Are any of my/our issues caused/compounded by the masses of devices using the same frequencies both in the band and surrounding environment? Is there an answer?

My guitarist LOVES his guitar tech and ways to get what he needs (IMHO 50% of what he thinks ). He goes through tech gear/preamps/modelling like nobodies business; he was using AxeFX years ago when it first came out and he now swears by the Tonex! I realise he is a skinny stringer but if he is raving about it, it must have something.

Has anyone ever taken a California VS (P bass), routed it for JJ pups and replaced the VS pickguard with a TT Jazz plate to cover the P pup route? If so did you get a custom guard or will a Sandberg TT fit?
-
There's no replacement for displacement... the more speakers the better, even if you are getting (in theory) exactly the same wattage/power.

Jeez, I don't want them thinking I make all that racket and mistakes!

Interesting point. I said the same thing to our guitarist who is the PA owner and advocate for IEM and he reckons the spread of PA is way better than the beaming of guitar/bass in small venues. Stand to my side out front and you get bass and drum, his side and you get guitar and drums.

Which bass do you associate Adam Clayton with?
warwickhunt replied to la bam's topic in Bass Guitars
He had the Warwick Reverso but he also had that weird V... which possibly lessened his weirdness. He also used the Jack Cassidy bass and iirc back in the day the Ibanez Musician as per Sting. -

Off the top of my head I'd have said P bass but then I remember seeing them live and he was using a J bass... then memory kicked in and my earliest recollection might have been with a Ric. These days it appears that it's whatever he can get for free! -
No... ^ THIS ^ sounds like most 4 year olds!

I am trialling the whole IEM / Monitor / silent stage thing and I have to say that my overarching feeling at the moment is that I am personally not 'enjoying' the playing/listening/interacting experience! I've heard others say that I'll get used to it etc but I've no sense of the goal being achieved any time soon. A few considerations for me are that I'm playing in 2 bands (both share the Soundcraft Ui12 desk as it belongs to the guitarist who is in both bands with me) with 2 different drummers both of whom are old school and use acoustic kits (one brings a massive wedge monitor). Band A is a 3 piece and the guitar is on the far side of the stage with no amps on stage; Band B is a 4 piece with a guitar next to me using a cab + IEM. However, all of this is secondary to the fact my playing is generally reactive to the whole band/audience experience and I find myself not being as nuanced as I would be with backline on stage and tempering how/what I play. I think that I'm missing some of the volume or dynamics when I play using IEMs (even though I use molded plugs when gigging with backline) and I can't get comfortable with that. In short you can say that I am WRONG to not solely use IEMs but for me I have to enjoy the musical experience and I'm slightly isolated from that with IEMs

This is quite long running but iirc there was evidence that people within his band(s) knew full well what he was up to. Not saying all of them but I can't believe you'd not have got a whiff of what he is up to. Were it me I'd be very publicly and through every possible avenue available, be letting folk knew what he'd done; which might include buying a ticket to a show and voicing my displeasure while he was on stage... but that's just me. In fact someone tried to scam me on ebay and I very easily established who they were and their band. I'm just waiting my opportunity to catch up with the gent and let him know what I thought of his stunt!

Took a couple of read through but I got there. Not your explanation but I'm just getting to grips with the way digi-desks are configured etc. -

Cheers folks, next use is Saturday and I'll dive straight in and see if anything is applied. Just to clarify; the FX sends are they assigned to FOH and aux sends independently? -

I'll certainly check. -
It's n oldie but a goldie... to 'assume' makes an 'a55 of U and me'. Joking aside, it is a 1 in 100 chance that it is the cab but ALWAYS eliminate the easiest/obvious first especially as it will cost you nothing but a little bit of time.
-
I have the EBS350 and the 'character' isn't a massive flavour when used just a little, that wouldn't concern me. IMHO unless you use all of the other permutations to ensure it is defo the head and not another part of the signal chain, you could end up chasing something that can't be guaranteed.

Nobody gives a sh*t... most people use the opportunity to go to the toilet during this song!
-
Yep, there's something wrong there! Test your basses, cab and ALL cables with another amp to eliminate that variable. I'd also try and bypass the pre and try another preamp into the return AND try the preamp out into another power section. Then you can start to narrow it down. I'd also ask the guy who serviced it too either refund you or show you the amp working correctly.

Hmm...I'm not sure about this one.
warwickhunt replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I can't find it in the BC Marketplace but I'm fairly sure that was for sale on here recently... maybe this thread forced him to delete it? -
Been there, done that when I worked in audio duplication (spoken books on cassette and CD... so that dates me). We had to have a reference system to test that randomly selected product was of sufficient quality. The system had expensive components and interconnects. For a laugh we hooked up 4 or 5 different speaker cables (twin core cable found left over by a sparky > couple of quid QED cable > all the way up to the reference stuff which was £*** per metre) and did random blind tests... not one person could even remotely identify the most expensive but the 'free' twin core didn't disgrace itself. A bit embarrassing for one of the lads who had just shelled out a big chunk of cash for his latest speaker cable!
