...but if you're hosting the images yourself, you can include as many as you like in the main description with no charge. Why the seller would go to the effort of typing a description as text, pasting it into an image, saving it out, hosting it and then linking to it is a mystery to me. Unless being able to delete the image after the auction closes, and therefore all record of the text of the auction, is useful to them...
A well reasoned argument there M. I have a feeling that 'IF' someone were to shell out that kind of moolah they may well want verification after they buy it (difficult to do 'before' you buy it if it is half way around the world) and questions may be asked at a later date, so the seller has covered his backside good if he can alter/delete the text or images after the auction has ended. Not that I have that kind of money to spend but I'll bear that in mind next time I check out a sale... just how did you establish it was an image; pasted, saved and hosted off eba,y and not a straight text box with images inserted?

Aside from that... is this the same bass we've seen/discussed numerous times before? <edit> Oh yes, just spotted the 'backlight' comment... same bass!

One of them funny looking Yamaha SBVs
warwickhunt replied to Mr. Foxen's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I realise this is a very 'subjective' question but what do they sound like (setting aside the various pup combinations, I'm thinking overall sound)? -

NORTH EAST BASS BASH - NOVEMBER 2009 - PICS & VIDEO ADDED!
warwickhunt replied to wateroftyne's topic in Events
Wahey! Good news mate. -
Like an upside down Warwick Fortress... though I have a nagging suspicion the Yamaha was out first, so the Fortress is an upside down Yamaha.
Hi all, If an amp is advertised as having a 4 ohm or 8 ohm version what does that mean? Thanks in advance Deak
An amp won't be advertised as having a 4 ohm or an 8 ohm version... a cabinet might/will! 'If' it is the latter (ie a cab) then a 4 ohm cab will get the most out of your amp (theoretically it will get 200w out of a 200w amp BUT that is not the real world situation nor is it the deciding factor when getting a cab) BUT you generally wouldn't be able to add another cab, whereas an 8 ohm cab on the other hand will get about 2/3 of the wattage out of your amp (again... theoretically) but you CAN add another 8 ohm cab at a later date. Tbh there are so many variables in your question that it would be easier if you said what amp you already have and what cab you were considering getting.
Another highly credible piece of lateral thinking from the North East contingent!
Trust a Geordie to try and find a way of saving money... worse than Yorkshiremen by all accounts.
No, you need a MM humbucker fitted in the bridge position, the P-bass pups as standard then a jazz bass pickup in the neck. Now you're talking!
... or follow Billy Sheehan's example and stick a Gibbo mudbucker up by the neck. In fact I'm sure the North's very own Bass Doc (another renowned tight-fisted Geordie ) did that very same mod way before Mr Sheehan.

Non more dark than... The Warwick 'Darklord'! http://www.warwickbass.com/modules/produkt...14460&cl=EN

Alternatively... Get the best of both worlds and mod the P bass with a J pup.
It's not natural finish though if that's what you mean. I think they call it Fiesta Red, but it looks more like pink or orange really. I just got that colour cos it looks like Pino's!
That looks to be in lovely condition for a 'gigging' Squier JV bass from 83. I have to confess it's not a colour bass I've ever owned but they always look tasty when owned by other people.

Can I run a Phil Jones Bassbuddy into a 4ohm speaker?
warwickhunt replied to Beedster's topic in Amps and Cabs
No worries Chris. It piqued my interest as I couldn't imagine an amp (even this buddy 'thing' ) that wouldn't do 4 ohm, though it did take me a couple of attempts to clarify the output ohmage. -
You can sand the dirt off the bass but it 'could' be quite deeply ingrained; you can also apply a coloured/stained wax to your bass BUT you'd likely as not want to sand back the ingrained dirt first as it would still be noticeable if you applied a coloured wax over the top. Not a major job to do but be aware it'll all need to be done by hand as the contouring on the SSI means that using an electric sander is a no-no!

Can I run a Phil Jones Bassbuddy into a 4ohm speaker?
warwickhunt replied to Beedster's topic in Amps and Cabs
Says 8ohm in the instructions, I'm assuming it means that 4ohms will be problematic?
That would be pretty unusual Chris! Just checked on-line and the manual states; 16. HIGH LEVEL LINE OUT AND SPEAKER OUT JACK. The Bass Buddy will work on any speaker load from 16Ω down to 4Ω, which is the safe maximum load for this amplifier. Any load with impedances less than 4Ω will cause the internal amplifier fuse to blow. I'd say you're safe, even though the diagram of the BB shows a legend on the output indicating 8 ohm load! -
Offering a constructive view on this... I do have to say that if a 'new' bass is £250 in the shops, chances of getting £225 are slim (not saying impossible), regardless of the case, which many people would expect to get if they were having it couriered. I've been known to be wrong in the past and I'd like nothing better than for you to get the price you want but as an indicator, I sold the Jazz CV version of this with a pair of full active EMGs installed, for £200; admittedly in a good gigbag not a case! Not that it matters as the bass will make what the bass makes and it'll find its own value.

£263!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well done, but it just goes to show how mental Ebay is! Its not just a 'Muppet' that sold it! If you get my drift.
Well there you go... £13 MORE than you can buy one new in the shops. Ain't eBay a mad place!

£35 is cheap/reasonable for a good set-up... but it's bloody expensive if the guy just chucks new strings on it and gives it back 'as-is'. There's a list of luthiers on this sticky - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26654 Dave Wilson is NW (ish) and an absolutely top guy for setting up repairs. However, it'll cost you nearly £35 to drive to him or have your bass couriered there and back!
-
Bummer that it has been dinged and not by you! Try looking here for a suitable repairer. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26654 I can recommend Dave Wilson 'very' highly and I've no doubt he could match the finish for you but he's not exactly down the street from you.

Great guy to deal with. Dougal bought my Sadowsky PJ, paying immediately by bank transfer with no hassles and despite Interparcel's finest efforts to mess up the whole delivery process he was a patient gent all the way through. Enjoy the bass mate.
Well I'm using the 410L 4x10 with an Ampeg SVP-Pro going through a QSC RMX1450 which is kicking out 1.4kW bridged; never had the master volume above the 2nd notch on the power amp and our drummer is LOUD! The sound guy asked me to turn down this weekend as well. I've got a massive amount of headroom and plenty left in the tank from the power amp. Maybe it's the amp in the combo that's the issue?
Ah! I was comparing apples and oranges. I didn't realise that you were just using a Tecamp cab (not a combo or Teacamp amp), with a big power-amp. I agree the cabs can handle masses of output; I had the 6x10xt a year or two ago and it wasn't even breaking into a moderate sweat unless you chucked some serious watts through it.
I'm far too loud though
Really? I know that the 2x12 that I had was 320w or so without an ext cab but I found it surprisingly lacking in power with an energetic drummer and a couple of moderately enthusiastic guitarists; I do accept that it depends what amp/cab/combo you had previously, the style of music, type of band, volume of guitarists etc. IMHO a bit of a R&D 'fail' when you have to add an ext cab to a combo to get the required volume; especially when combos are generally bought for their portability. To have to add an ext cab to a 2x12 lightweight combo, to achieve the required volume to do standalone gigs seems a bit daft if you ask me but again I stress this is in the circumstances that I find my self... however, I never feel as if there is any lack of volume from my present 2x12 rig!
-
There's a couple of Peterson combos that come up on eBay with mercurial regularity and oddly enough at £400+ they never sell! I had a 1x12 combo with 1x15" ext cab (the head was the same in all of the bass versions IIRC, there was a different guitar version favoured by Jazzers) back when they were the latest thing. The core tone was fine but they ran out of puff when stacked up against a full band with an energetic drummer... even when using an ext cab. Unfortunately the thing that dints the value of them (though the mahogany cases are lovely bits of furniture) these days is that there are far better, higher powered amp around that do as good (if not better) a job. I'm sure I still have the original 'Guitarist' review from when I bought my kit but I'd be a fibber if I said I could dig it out this side of about... February!
-
I have to say that I'm presently using one of my Peavey HiSys II 1x15 PA cabs that I [s]have[/s] had for sale, as a cab to use for bass at my rehearsal space... and it works fantastically well as a bass cab regardless of the fact that it has an unattenuated horn! Obviously I'll add the caveat that I'm not saying that ANY PA cab mated to ANY bass amp will do as well but I can't see why it shouldn't. Full range PA cabs are intended to reproduce the 'full range' of sounds that a band produce and that includes the bottom end. Just consider the fact that most 15" PA cabs have reasonable sized enclosures so they have plenty of internal volume, so bass reproduction shouldn't be an issue. With regard to top end (or the potential to produce too much top end); if it isn't produced/generated by your bass/playing style then the amp and then subsequent cab have nothing to 'reproduce'.

NORTH EAST BASS BASH - NOVEMBER 2009 - PICS & VIDEO ADDED!
warwickhunt replied to wateroftyne's topic in Events
Here's some more photos, courtesy of BassTool. Cheers, Johna!
Chuffin hell mate; not only did you bust your amp but you snapped the headstock off that fender... come to think of it, there's something wrong with the body as well! -
Funny that as I was reading some reviews of the latest American Standard Jazz and P basses from a couple of years ago. The P supplied had the G lower than the E, the Jazz supplied had the G higher than the E.
Standard set-up on basses is that the E is slightly higher than the G (due to the physics of string oscillation)... not sure why you'd ever have the G higher than the E!
