NORTH EAST BASS BASH - NOVEMBER 2009 - PICS & VIDEO ADDED!
warwickhunt replied to wateroftyne's topic in Events
Coooooooool. You're a star for sorting that out mate.

Aye, Cheers warwickhunt for that. The Hellborg head is something we mere mortals wouldn't normally get a chance to try out. The list price is somewhat restrictive..Non of the shops up in the North East have it in stock (That I've seen) Let's hope the gig you've got on Sunday gets cancelled or something - It's a real shame you can't make it. SteveC
No worries. WoT has kindly agreed to bring the Hellborg along... and bring it back I hasten to add! Feel free to give it a go and even though it isn't a studio or true 'live' situation, any comments would be greatly appreciated. If it keeps raining the way it has been the gig may well get cancelled as Morpeth was that fated Market town that suffered from the flood devastation last year. -

It's 'Trigger's Broom' all over again!

A couple of pics of the 'damage' on the bass. I should add that the bass is in pretty good condition for its age but it is a gigging bass not a museum/collectors piece. Sorry for the gratuitous 'foot' shot and the flash does appear to make it look worse than it is but there you go. There is also a small nick/chip out of the headstock, just a surface sliver but as pictured.
How about a trade for the 210 combo? It's a Kg lighter
Nice try. The thing with the 2x12 is that aside from the fact that it is only 1kg heavier, it actually comes equipped with its own built in 'tilt-and-roll' caster system... not sure that the 210 has that! Saying that; at this weight the 2x12 combo inc 500w amp weighs the same as ONE of my Aggie 1x12 cabs and is an easy one handed lift by either the top handle or one of the side recessed handles.
That is a LOT of PA and equipment to carry in one car. I feel quite lucky now to normally just take a 1 bass in case, bag of leads/sansamp etc, and normally LM3 in amp bag.
The drummer has his kit (inc' drum trigger sequencer gubbins) + the RCF bass bin which just about fills his Passat Est whilst the poor singer/guitarist just has a Corsa and fills that (with seats down) with his amp, pedals, guitars etc. as well as the remaining PA inc' stands, monitor and backdrop etc. Seems like a ridiculous amount of gear at times but we have a lot less than some bands. My other band has loads more lights, smoke, monitors etc. but luckily it all miraculously turns up to gigs in a big van and I just turn up with my bass gear!
Could a trolley sort out the weight and transport issues? My GS112 cabs sounded great (I still miss the Aguilar sound) but they were just too heavy for me and a “one handed lift”. I changed them for the Bergantino cabs and couldn’t be happier.
Tbh Chris, you're probably right! It's just that I transport gear to gigs in my estate car and with everything that I already carry; x2 Aggies, TF, Pedalboard, Gramma Pad, Bag of leads, Guitar stands, x1 bass guitar PLUS 75% of our bands PA inc' x2 RCF mid/tops, Flightcased Mixing desk, Flightcased effects, BIG bag of leads and assorted bits, box containing x2 iColors lights and associated controllers and cables... carrying a trolley just adds to the bulk. However, as you say carrying a trolley might be one more thing but it would make moving stuff easier. I think I'll look again into what's available and how small they can fold down.

Another of my failed, ill conceived excursions into getting something that is half the weight of what I already own but with the same/better quality of tone... possibly not the best sales line ever! In all fairness this will blow someone away but it's just not my cup of tea. I'd rather do a trade for something interesting but of course I'll take an offer of cash, just PM me. I'd possibly be interested in a nice lightweight bass (nothing over 9lb) and for the right instrument I could put cash forward. I'd also be interested in an amp or cab(s) but they are going to have to offer something that my TF/Aggie rig doesn't already have; i.e. lighter weight, superior specs. Whatever I take as trade I've got to stand a fighting chance of turning it back around on here without hemorrhaging value... because you just know I'm not gonna keep it.

NORTH EAST BASS BASH - NOVEMBER 2009 - PICS & VIDEO ADDED!
warwickhunt replied to wateroftyne's topic in Events
Regarding gear at the Bash... Courtesy of Hans Peter Wilfer (Warwick owner... as in the company, not just owner of one of their basses) and Florin the Moderator over on the Warwick forum; there'll be an opportunity for anyone interested in trying out a Warwick Hellborg Preamp, to do so! If WoT would be kind enough to take it along on the day (S*ds Law, I now have a gig that afternoon), it'll be available for those attending to try out through your existing rig or if you have no gear with you then smiley nicely and see if you can blag someone else's, with your own bass without the confines and restrictions of a traditional retail outlet. You can hook it up to your monster rig or your practice combo it's up to you; if you are unsure how to do this I'm certain WoT or one of the many knowledgeable, helpful soles there will give you a hand. All I ask is that you 1) take care of it and 2) write a brief note about what you thought of the preamp. I'll supply a book or some paper format to fill in, nothing complicated or onerous and I'll not mark you down for spelling or neatness. I'll collate all of the comments and feed them back to Warwick (market research if you like). Enjoy your day... skulks off mumbling about bliddy Sunday afternoon gigs! -
Where's GremlinAndy when you need some rig porn?
ha ha.....very shakepearian !! Tennis is going great...... lost 3 stone !!! made the tennis easier - LOL ATB Mark
Is that 3 stone or 3 'stones' as in half bricks in your pockets? Either way that's some going mate, good on ya! Watch it though, when you get down to racing snake size like me you'll be needing lightweight gear. Catch you around soon.
Further update (see post #4 above) - received a message from OP/seller to say that it was genuine mistake on his part adn that the string/refund would be posted 4th October during a Uni lunch break ........ guess what (... and I'm still waiting, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah....)...45 day since the last promise and about 5.5 months since I paid.
Tw4ts trick that Dave! If I don't source a single G string soon, I've got a brand new (never on a bass) E A & D string from a LaBella Deep Talkin set you can have for a tenner if they are any good to you (long story but I snapped the G string... twice!).

I think we have linked to this guy before...

Looking at the way he's constantly flexing his fingers/hand, he's either suffering from over playing or over egging the fact he's about to play fast. Not big and not clever to be that uncomfortable! -
Lets face it, down at the Dog and Duck on a Saturday night with all the bladdered punters shouting and balling over the band you would never be able to tell the difference in sound between this one and a stock MM Jazz.
Lets be honest most of the punters down the local couldn't tell the difference (audible or visual) between a Fender and a Gibson, never mind a Masterbuild and an off the shelf MM.
lol..... getting itchy feet err.... I mean fingers !!!
Be gone foul beast, the end of thy exile is yet 6 months hence... how's the tennis coming along by the way?
Surely this also includes similar 'builders' such as Lakland that, although using great woods, are just mass produced bodies being 'screwed together' And if we assume that master builders at Fender are making the basses by hand then 'screwing them together', then guys like Coppola are charging the same amount of money for the same prank . Si
Agreed!
i wonder how good a jazz bass mr shuker or some other respected luthier would be able to make for that much?
Problem is that the best bass that a very good/brilliant luthier could make would still cost a lot less than this and they'd not be able to justify a higher price tag. HOWEVER because this 'is' Fender Masterbuild then they can charge wtf they like. Truth be told Fender couldn't possibly justify that price tag for the component parts, even inc' the wages for a Master [s]Screwer-together[/s] I mean builder. but as long as there is demand there will be supply at these prices.
... although the preamp didn't seem to do a huge amount.
I don't know the new range, especially the BO models very well but do they have the active/passive, push/pull pot on the volume control? If so, try giving it a push/pull just to ensure it isn't in passive mode whereby the tone controls do nowt! Oh and a big +1 to what 'tnit' ^ said.
