1. I don't find the colour that offensive... in fact I quite like it BUT I wouldn't be paying that for a MIJ bass!
2. There appears to be a glut of these for sale on eBay @ approx £475; however they are from the States. I realise you then need to factor in shipping and import taxes/duty but are they easy enough to convert over from 120v?
3. A sad loss of life if suicide due to taunting is the case; condolences to his family and friends.
4. Tbh you need to check what the cost of repair + refinish is going to cost you. A pro job is going to cost you a couple of hundred and that then pushes the total cost of bass + refin to the point where it'd cost more than just getting one in your favoured colour (assuming that they are available in that colour ). Purely from a personal point of view (and considering personal experience of refinishing basses that I ended up NOT keeping ), I'd say leave as is and use it or sell it and get the colour you wanted! Just an opinion.
5.
How much do they normally go for?
Oooh I'd say about £45 used... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=76113
6.
Why ? Whoever enjoyed a gig because the bass looked pretty ?
Errr... me!
7.
WHY IS THIS BACK UP FOR SALE?
Well obviously either sockdeluxe_mikey or more likely the person who bought the bass from him, saw a bigger profit on eBay! <edit> On reflection, I'll add the caveat; assuming the eBay sale isn't a scam and that the bass sells for £550... which (net all fees if the buyer uses paypal) isn't actually going to be a huge amount over the original £460 selling price!
8.
Thanks for varying advice, which is I guess what I expected. So what then for a compact powerful easy transportable system, for a covers band. up to about £750?
Assuming you are wanting 1k-2k of power and you are looking at quality components, as opposed to stuff like Behringer (apologies to Behringer users), you can probably get 2 out of 3 for that budget but you'll have to look really hard to achieve all 3! We went for a 'used' active RCF system (a pair of 1x12 750w tops + a single 1000w bass bin) and it cost us £1750... not cheap but stunningly good! Even then the bass bin isn't a one-man carry.
9. I recently acquired a one of these (even the same colour) and I have to agree that it is a lot more versatile than it would initially appear, a very under-rated bass.
10. I researched the Bose system a while back and even the guy who worked in the shop flogging them (I've known him many years through various Music shops) said that they were fine/good for small 'cafe' style gigs but there were far better systems out there for similar money. One consideration is that the guy also advised me that you needed a minimum of two of the Bose subs to go with each column... starts getting even pricier! In summary great if you are in a small, acoustic style band but less impressive for other environments/bands
Warwickhunt was selling a couple of Peavey cabs a while back that he thought were good with bass.
You rang? I'm using a single Peavey HiSys (1x15 +Horn) cab as a rehearsal cab (stored at our rehearsal space so saves humping my Aggies) and for what it is worth as a PA cab I'd now not sell it. It makes a perfectly good bass cab and for what you can pick them up used (ie cheaper than an equivalent 'bass cab') I don't think you can go wrong. Not saying that EVERY PA cab would be ideal for bass but this 1x15 with a very healthy volume of air, will do nicely... and that's regardless of the fact that I have one going spare because it'd be cheaper for you to source one locally.
13. I've had the driver out of an Aggie DB112 cab. Unscrew the Aguilar badge then reinsert one of the screws leaving enough of the screwhead showing to get purchase on with a decent pair of pliers. Then pull the grill out (attached with heavy duty velcro), this method stops the implement used as a lever from deforming the edge of the cab. The drivers are as you say front mounted and easily removed. However, unless you have a blown driver why would you replace one! Don't worry if you have an amp that seems to have a higher power rating it won't do any damage and if you only have one 8 ohm cab and you feel that a 4 ohm would get the full output then it really is a false economy as you'll not get a massive amount more out of a single 4 ohm cab... all of this is just guess work as I have no idea why you want to replace the driver!
14. "All original"... forgive me my ignorance but when did EMG's come as original spec on these basses?
15. Hands up who goes to a flea market with £300 in their pocket... now keep your hand up if you would pay that amount for something you know nothing about and were buying to learn on? The bass may or may not be genuine (I can be sure of that as they are the only two options ) but the 'Flea Market' story surely has to be a load of shyte!
16. The listing was ended, presumably by the seller, and then relisted... identically as far as I can see.
17. Warwick Forum.
18. I was afraid that the pad might suck the bottom end out of my sound but it had no such affect and as you say it helps enormously at giving you a consistant tone regardless (almost) of venue stage/floor costruction.
19.
They've had rave reviews, but they're almost forty quid for a 5-string set, so I'd like to know if anyone's tried them.
Have a search over on the Warwick forum as I seem to recall there were some comments regarding them not 'fitting' some basses... IIRC it was something to do with the thick gauge not fitting 'some' nuts! However, it is just a passing recollection as I'm not a fan of £40 strings and I don't own a 5 string so I may be barking up the wrong tree. <edit> I realise that nuts can be recut/reshaped but to some people it is an issue.
20. First glance at the pics and I was about to start ranting that those knobs aren't original... then I read to the end of his listing and he's conceded they aren't original. However, I'm not 100% convinced that the bell plate is original either. I'm fairly sure that the mirror like quality of the chrome is far shinier than I recall the original being, regardless of the fact that it's hardly been played; just my opinion though. Nice bass but reserve not met at £560 for a non-original JV?
21.
Had a listen to some demos and I think I prefer the Warwick tone. Also, not keen on the boost only Tone Pump.
IMHO a good choice!
22.
what's a Jack bass?
Hohner Jack bass (Google is your friend ). A headless, full (though small) bodied bass; however, I don't ever recall seeing a maple board.
23.
With comments like that it amazes me that some folk don't get your screen name!
I do have standards to maintain you know! Nowt wrong with those pics btw.
24. I've got a recurring shoulder injury so I have to be very careful about the weight of any bass I use (sub 9lb is OK but closer to 8lb is best). As a result I'd give you one bit of advice; be sure to actually check the weight of the instrument you are thinking of buying... don't go off manufacturers guesstimates or even generalisations by well intentioned individuals. I'd been informed that certain Lakland basses were very reasonable weights, purchased a Skyline JO 4 which the seller assured me couldn't be more than 9lb... it weighed 11lb+ Added to which I assumed that most Lakland DJ basses were reasonably light and I encountered no bass under 10lb. I presently have a Bolin (you'll not find one and it isn't your style ) that weighs 8lb 5oz and a Zon Sonus that is 8lb 6oz. However to help you with your quest (and generalising as I advised you not to listen to )... Sadowskys are generally lighweight Jazz style basses especially the NYC but out of your budget I'd say. 'If' you can track down a Zon it'd be worth trying a they were lauded as 'The Jazz bass for the 90's' (I've owned 3 Zon Sonus and they all came in well under 9lb)! I'm sure that a Shuker could be obtained that was made from lightweight woods. Good luck.
25.
Hi All Due to some unforeseen circumstances I'm selling my two Spector Euros. Both are fitted with John East U-Retro preamps and both come with full aluminium/ply heavy duty flight cases. The light here today is rubbish for photography of anything let alone shiny basses so please excuse the substandard pics. They both have Schaller strap lock buttons. This one, as you can see, is the 4-string. It's a maple thru-neck and has Alder/Walnut/Flame Maple sandwich wings. The U-Retro on this one is a standard unit and the single knob at the top is just an unconnected pot. The U-Retro's toggles have been shrink wrapped and tucked away in the cavity: they are effectively redundant with active pickup + preamp bass. I've seen some people on talkbass put plugs into the holes but I just thought a pot and knob was a much nicer aesthetic. It has EMG P/J pickups and has a killer tone - it's more aggressive than the Euro 5 and it has a certain gurgle and bite to it. This could well be the first bass I regret selling as it's pretty special and feels nicer than any Euro 4 I've played. I've had it from new and it's been gigged only a few times and used mainly as back up to my NS5 lately. It's main use has been for playing drop-D tunings at home. The U-Retro makes it extremely versatile and it's good for any style of music. As I've said before, don't be scared of Spectors, they are like Lamborghinis and Ducatis; people who haven't got one knock them and people who have fall in love with them. String spacing is 19mm at the bridge and it's a 34" scale. The neck profile is somewhere between a classic P and Stingray sort of profile. Anyway this is one hell of a cracking instrument and I feel as though you ought to be vetted before being allowed to buy it £1000 with flight case.
They are without a doubt the most substandard pics I've seen in a long while... where are they?
