warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Basses For Sale
I'm obviously in the wrong job. If I'm lucky I get a doughnut now and again! bump
The week I was given this there were 3 jobs identical to mine available in my home town (with no qualified teachers coming forward from previous adverts for those posts) and I'd been approached about the possibility of a bit of friendly 'poaching' of me to one of those jobs! Added to which I was doing school productions and shows using a £2000+ Warwick bass so it was this bass or in the event of damage/loss, a potential insurance claim for a much more expensive Warwick... they bought me this to cure both problems. -
Sorry to hear of you being scammed and glad that it has been sorted. Paypal and ebay have got their act together on these issues although the proceedure is rather long winded. Any item that is not as it was described will virtually qualify automatically for a refund. Just remember secondhand goods are treated different and if a seller describes an item as "mint" paypal view this as subjective and will generally rule in the favor of the seller if you find a tiny scratch for example on a bass, or a small dent. They allow for due wear and tear on secondhand goods irrespective of how they are described so be careful if you want a "mint" secondhand bass. Obviously misleading statements are treated as such and remember to leave well alone if you get a bad feeling about a certain item. Several people have stated that you only get a refund if the money is still in the persons paypal account. This is incorrect if the seller has "Paypal Protection" When you raise a dispute with paypal as a buyer they immediately put your payment on hold irrespective of whether the seller has any money in their paypal account. If they have a zero balance and the amount is say £500.00 then their paypal account will immediately show (minus) - £500.00. They then contact the seller who has 20 days to offer you a refund. If the seller offers you a refund take photos of the item and send it back insured with a signed for service and very well packed. Once the seller has received it back , and has informed paypal you will get a refund. If you still don't get a refund all you need do is provide paypal with proof of delivery and you will get your refund. If a seller refuses to give a refund you can escalate the proceedure and paypal will ask for more details from both the buyer and seller and then make a ruling on the case. Generally this is in favor of the buyer, but in my dispute case with a Hong Kong buyer with secondhand goods worth £780.00 paypal ruled in my case and the buyer did not get a refund. If the seller does a runner and was covered by paypal protection you will still get a refund and paypal will persue the seller through legal channels. I have found them to be very professional in these matters although the time scale could be speeded up.
Eloquently and succinctly put. I'd add that you must NEVER give the seller a bit of slack, particularly with regard to timings for making/escalating claims; just get on and do it regardless of how genuine the seller is or sounds. With your money refunded it is much better to look back on the whole affair and decide if the seller was genuine, than it is to grind your teeth and wish; 'what if?', when you have no money and time has run out. Sorry to sound hard-nosed and anti-seller but my knowledge/experience is hard won!

I had this bought for me as a work, retention 'sweetener'. However, I never ever used it other than to have a mess about in the house. It comes complete with all the bits; Planet Waves stereo lead, gigbag (Line 6 heavy duty with big pockets to carry the power supply etc), power-supply (XPS-DI unit), warranty card etc. and other than a bit of dust on the gigbag from being stored under the bed, the bass is immaculate... the scratchplate even has the plastic on it. Needless to say that everything works as it should and there are no issues. The bass can be operated off batteries (inserted in the back of the bass) but it isn't any hassle to run off the little footpedal style supply (power is via the stereo cable). Dead easy to use and no need to fear the technical side of it, as I can use it and I'm an owld gadgee.
What happens if the seller claims the product was damaged when returned?
A protracted battle begins! Always best to take photographs etc of how the bass was before sending, package it securely and ensure that you send it insured.
-
I'd be quite frankly amazed if ebay refund you and allow you to keep the bass! I've plenty of ebay experience and of being conned/mis sold items and the scenario these days is that if ebay/paypal find in your favour, they hold the funds and refund you when you return the item to the seller. Unfortunately you will invariably be out of pocket to the tune of the return carriage (correct; though you have done no wrong and they have tried to fleece you, the cost of return carriage is 'your' responsibility). However, I'd love for it to be true that you do get to keep it but that would leave ebay wide open to litigation. Good luck.
a jetty laggy bump. cant sleep but need the money and need to shift this one.
There is a guy on the Wick forum from Canada that I did a painless, easy sale with and he is defo interested in your bass (obviously he pays insured shipping)! If shipping in that bombproof flightcase all you need is some extra bubblewrap and a cardboard box from a cycle shop. -
Yes, or insert yourself in the list between them and the next person. No point trying cabs at home - they need to be in rehearsals or at gigs with guitarists and drummers to compete with! Alex
Cheers Alex, I'll sort this out with WoT.
Does this seem a logical route? Alex
Are we to assume that if we know one of these people or are in their vicinity then we can get in touch with them to try out your cab(s)?
Will you deliver this via courier, or is it pickup only? Does it come with a gigbag/case? I've been looking at getting one of these for a while now, and this looks like too big a bargain to miss.
I think you were a bit too slow off the mark as this is heading back to me again!
I will put one together in the next week or so. Looking at battery and power supply operated unit in a 120x90x35mm box. Active EQ, treble, mid and bass with 15dB cut and boost in each band (same circuit as my VT1-EQ), Mid band sweep Q control. Level pot and on led. XLR balanced DI out and 1/4" jack line out with high level output. 3 postion ground lift switch for the DI with Float, Ploat and ground. 1/4" jack in and if I can fit in on the box another 1/4" jack out that bypasses the line out, i.e. connected to the 1/4" jack in but DI will still work. Will work as a DI, EQ, Clean boost and Pre-amp. I will need to make a PCB if this pedal goes into production so will offer the first 5 takes a handbuild version for £49 including P&P. Target price for the production versions will be £59+PP. Dave DHA
I'll take #1 Dave... so long as you hand number/sign it and supply the power supply! Cheque or paypal OK?
-
Active/Passive... matters not a jot! Turn them up full whack and adjust the input of your amp accordingly. Of course if the resultant sound is not to your liking go back to turn everything down to zero and start adjust everything up incrementally and according to taste... until you get to full whack!
-
Fiat Panda / Bugatti Veyron... they both do the same thing but I know which one I'd rather have!
There's some mighty fine axes in this thread already. Here's my contribution, my Streamer LX-5: She's 10 years old this September - anyone know how to determine her real age? Cheers, Doug
The serial number on the back of the headstock - the last 2 digits are the year and the letter at the start tells you the month in which it was made (A=Jan, B=Feb but drop the letter 'I') or you could put your serial number in here for full details (mind even Warwick get it wrong occasionally ) http://www.warwick.de/modules/support/serials.php?cl=EN
Is it just a standard glossy white finish? It looks slightly metallic from the pictures, but I imagine that must be the lighting. Don't want to sound like a tirekicker, but as soon as I can move some guitar gear I'd be very interested in this although I fear it'll be gone by then
It is indeed pearlescent/metallic white and I have no objection to you voicing your intent and I'd look forward to you flogging your gear and coming back with hard cash. -

As much as anything it was the time to get to you and Saturday is tight for time as it's my work leaving party. Ah well, I'm sure this will get snapped up soon.
