1. As has been stated it's a Tech Soundsystems cab and if perspective isn't skewing things then that is an ND6x12 cab (1800w and 104db sensitivity)... why the hell would you need to add a 1X15? In all seriousness that single cab would operate far better by itself than if you added another cab into the equation. I owned the 6x10 version and it was a monster, in fact it still resides with a BCer. Dood and a great many others can chip in with views on these cabs if you change the title to 'Tech Soundsystems'! Value - based upon the fact that 4x10 and 4x12 examples have been offered for £500-£600 (good condition), I'd say that the 6x12 is worth about that if not a smidgen more BUT I'm taking in to account the fact that the cab looks well used and that most of the 4x10s and 4x12s out there are enough for most people, so in this instance I'd not pay a huge amount more for the extra 2 drivers. <edit for typo>
2. Nice bass. Surely that is quilted maple rather then spalted though?
3. The man says; "what you see is what you get" (well that brief statement does make up almost 15% of the total listing ) so... what you will NOT be getting is a Precision then!
4. I feel the need for a (mini)Bass-Bash... "Michael ?"
5.
This went for £510.00 this afternoon - anyone on here get it?
That's got to hurt the seller... £510 minus final value fees and if the seller pays by paypal then he's looking @ £470 (net)!
6. JHS distribute for Wilkinson so they may be able to help. You can get the Wilkinson EQ pots etc for £40 (see below), which if you speak to them they should be able to tell you if it'll work with your pups, they may even be persuaded to send you a scanned copy of the instructions... up to you then if you go your own way or purchase the kit. 7. 1) I have noticed that the E string sounds slightly muted/less bright than the other strings when played from the seventh fret up. Is this just because the strings are knackered, or could it point towards a more serious problem? A) Stick a new set of strings on and you'll eliminate much of the doubt. 2) While the strings are off, i'd like to give the neck and frets a clean. Are there any particular products that should be used, and any that should be avoided? A) Lemon oil for the fingerboard (I assume it isn't a lacquered maple board) and the back of the neck a soft dry cloth, which if it is very dirty/gunky then as suggested a 'little' squirt of polish on a cloth and give it a wipe (or just use the cloth impregnated with lemon oil that you used on the fingerboard. 3) Is there a proper method for replacing strings, is it as easy as it looks or should i get a shop to do it for me? A) I'm sure there is a link in the Wiki with regard to changing strings but it is pretty easy, I could try and explain it but pictures make it far easier than words. Don't get a shop to do it they'll charge you for the pleasure (which it is) and you'll learn more about your own instrument if you learn to do it yourself. 4) And finally that old gem "What strings should i buy?" I'm leaning towards some of the Ernie Ball Slinky strings, but i'm unsure which type. If it's of any help, i'm going to be playing (i hope) everything from punk and hard rock, to folk and pop, so i guess i need an allround set. A) I'd suggest a set of round-wounds and I'd not worry just now about getting the most expensive. Medium gauge 40-100 would probably suit you until you decide if you want heavier or lighter. In fact I have a few sets of the very reasonable nickel Hartke strings (bought off eBay as a deal), which if you are just starting out will likely suit you and they didn't cost the earth. Drop me a PM if you'd like to try a brand new set and you can have them at cost price; about a fiver.
8. Octaver (Boss) - Chorus (Boss) - Phaser (EHM Small Stone 'original') I also now have an EBS Compressor but I'm not sure that I'd class it as an effect and it hasn't earned a place on my pedal board as yet.
9. I'm 5 minutes from WoT and a few of you other guys, I'd like to hear these cabs! Thunderfunk and Barefaced anyone?
10.
That looks like my old one. Went to the guy from 100 Reasons via the Gallery then I think appeared on ebay again. Is it a '91? I can't remember the serial number. By far the best of the 2 Dolphin Pro 1s I've had (the 2nd was a '96).
Hope this isn't hi-jacking! You get a free bump I suppose. I doubt that it is your bass (though it is a 91), as I bought it about 15 years ago and kept it till it was sold to Canada last year.
11. I remember 15 years or so ago there was a local ad in the free-ads paper for a guy selling an 'old Ferder guitar' (correct spelling as per the ad), that had been in his loft since 1957 when his dad bought it; £50 ono. The seller apologised in the ad that the strings weren't all there, so the guitar would need a 'couple of new ones to be useable'. Needless to say when I rang at 07:45 on the morning of that weeks publication the guy who's phone number I rang was still quite jovial about the 'jape' his mates had pulled, "Nah sorry mate, it's my birthday today and the lads are having a laugh putting that ad in with my phone number"... by 21:00 that night when one of my mates rang, it was a case of, "f*ck off you stupid tw*t, of course I don't have a f*ckin Strat for £50, get f*ckin real, you f*ckin' d*ck head!". That's what mates are for, isn't it?
12.
The DB112/112NT setup is just great...Which one do you put on the bottom?
Purely so that the tweeter is closer to ear level (though still well short of that) I put the tweeter loaded cab on top. Saying that I generally just have the tweeter on 50% any way!
13. Oddly enough I saw those basses to. Didn't notice the memory sticks though... that's just sick and pervy!
14. I've just sold a bass as I was 'too' hung up on the fact it was; expensive, pristine and beautiful... oddly enough I own instruments that are any two out of three of those and I am quite happy to gig them and not worry too much about minor knocks!
15. I'm clearing out anything I'm not likely to use; this has been sitting at work and I use it once in a blue moon, so it may as well go. As you can see it has S/S/H pups, single volume and tone controls, 5 way selector, locking machines (a la Spertzel type). Action is nice and low and the neck is dead straight. It has a few little marks and dings but nothing major. I don't have the trem arm for it but I'd have thought they'd be a generic thing and/or easily replaced. I'll also go and restring it now as the strings are duff (and number 5 not 6 ). No gigbag or case, though I do have a fairly robust plastic 15kg dog food bag (that's a bag that contained 15kg of dog food NOT a plastic dog weighing 15kg ;D). If shipping I will box it up securely. Not a lot more to say really! Oh and it is basically this guitar... not my actual guitar! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdzZjGqWvsc You get an idea of the various pup options but don't expect to understand much unless your language skills are sh*t-hot. 16.
Have to create an account to view it...
Ah! Didn't realise, I'll sort out a description and photos now. Cheers
17.
That's good of you,thanks-think we're too far apart though-I'm just south of London.how would you describe the sound though?
Sound is so subjective, I'm almost reluctant to say too much as 'one man's meat...'! I will state that the Maple necked, ebony board, maple bodied Streamer has big Bart' pups which will colour any description I might give! However... the Ltd Ed Maple bass in question has a lot more mid 'snap' to it than other basses I own and when compared to say the Maple necked (wenge stringer) SSI that I have the Ltd Ed bass has more presence but not necessarily more growl (could be down to the pups/stringer/wenge fingerboard). I'll see what I can do to record the bass along with a SSI & a SSII for comparison (same strings).
18. I can't add anything more to what has already been expressed. Truly sad.
19.
Whats the difference between a cabinet giving output power as ??? watts rms then ??? watts program. The RMS is always lower than the program, which should i take as the output power so that i dont get the wrong cab for my amp
I hate to be pedantic but your cabinet has no 'output power'. The power that it is quoted as being able to handle is likely as not MM* rated anyway BUT if you must look at a figure to compare/put your mind at ease then look for the RMS. I'd also advice looking at the Wiki on the forum and doing a search relating to the whole business of matching the ratings of cabs and amps. * MM = Mickey Mouse
20. Whereabouts are you based? I ask because I have a maple necked NT Streamer (ebony board) with birds eye maple body, you could have tried this to get an idea of different woods. 21.
+1 plus keep them out of direct sunlight if you dont want the colour to fade.
I forgot that point! A minor point of note is that natural/waxed basses will darken in colour if in some natural light, though you have to watch it isn't direct mid-afternoon heat/light.
22. Mount them on a wall hangar in your room; away from direct heat (radiators, fires etc) or draughts (right next to an external door or draughty window) and they'll be fine... 20+ years experience of storing them that way and no mishaps/issues! Helps that I have an understanding wife.
23.
...there was one for sale at my local store: Absolute - it looked like a BG to me so I emailed Dan Lakin - this is his reply: "That was actually A Duck Dunn special edition. It is basically a Glaub with a gold anodized pickguard. Only 30 were actually made." So quite the collectors item. However, after owning a BG and now a DD - this is deffo a BG. ShaunB
Only 30 were actually made...! I've seen 3 for sale (I am inc' the one advertised by Absolute but NOT the FIVE times that this particular bass has been listed ) on eBay in the last 3 months; so either someone has their stats wrong or every UK owner has decided to move their DD Sp Ed on at the same time.
