The body on the US deluxe jazz is quite a lot smaller than a standard jazz.
You can laugh mate but I've already considered cutting the top off the Squier, chambering it out and then putting a fancy quilted maple cap on it!
 2.
Or if you can find one John try a Fender Stu Hamm Urge Bass -- Small body and very light! Will.
That is one bass I did consider as an option. I also started to get confused with the various models and pricing structures!
 3.
The body on the US deluxe jazz is quite a lot smaller than a standard jazz.
Smaller... I'll do some research but would you know if it was significantly lighter? I need to keep the weight sub 9lb.
 4.
I have built a bass with a P-style body, jazz neck and a pair of J pickups (it was fretless as it happens). The bass is somewhere in Manchester now - I've lost track of it's owner. I can recall however it did indeed sound like a Jazz as the pickup placement was precisely measured. This leads me to believe that the overall body size and shape has little to do with the end result once plugged in. Trust this helps you in your deliberations.
It has and a text coming your way!
http://www.rondomusic.com/spb61413ts.html Upmarket enough? P.
Mmmm no!
G&L JB-2. USA or Tribute versions - both have alnico pickups and a jazz profile neck
They do look tasty but my limited experience of the weight of G&L basses indicates that they tend to clock in at closer to 10lb than 8lb.

The physical bass is made & plays more than Good Enough, but the EMG Selects & the pre are not outstanding. G.
Cheers, thanks for that Geoff. However I'm looking for something more traditionally styled and a bit more up-market (I'm a tart I know ).
 6. Cheers one and all, I'm noting these and hopefully will make one or two visits.
 7.
take a look at post number 83 here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry461398
Nice one Chris. Time to do some asking to establish tonal differences!
 8. I'm presently looking for a lightweight (recurring shoulder problem) BO necked 'downsized' Jazz style bass (Sadowsky, Lakland DJ, Mike Lull), which lead me to wonder... I find the Jazz body just a touch too big for my stature and prefer a P bass body size (or 'downsized' Jazz) but I like the Jazz bass tone and in all of my years of messing about with basses I can't think that I have ever dropped a set of Jazz pups (obviously after the appropriate routing) into a P bass body? If I were to also put a Jazz neck onto said J pup equipped P body I can see no apparent reason why I wouldn't have the bass I wanted (assuming the P bass body was light enough). Does anyone have a J pup equipped P bass? I know that quite a few manufacturers do a P bass with an added J pup in the bridge position and the Aerodyne and M Hoppus bass are a Jazz with a P pup but off the top of my head I can't think of a manufacturer making the bass I've outlined. One final thought. The bass as described, 'should' essentially sound like a Jazz irrespective of body shape (after all, the various permutations/copies of Jazzes, sound pretty much like Jazzes), which kind of answers a question posed to me the other day about what makes a Jazz sound like a Jazz and a Precision sound like a Precision. I tried to describe the multitude of differences between the two basses but in fact it boils down to pretty much one factor... the pup construction and the position it is placed!
 9.
Just to extend on what 'donhills' said, those 60s classic jazz basses can be great. I posted this in another thread but i'll say it again here. I tried two in a music shop, same basses (mexican 60s classic jazz), one sounded perfect, an all round stunning jazz tone and the other was a load of s**t. So from this I gather there may be a trend for inconsistency in the mexican lines. I'm not saying there bad, quite the contrary, but i'd advise to try before you buy where possible.
So are you saying you tried TWO Classic Jazzes and one was pants?
Agreed
10.
hey!! Lovely looking bass mate! im pretty tempted my self actually! one quick thing though........i think it will be a morado fingerboard on this model, not Brazilian rosewood that wood is usually reserved for the NYC basses good luck with the sale!
So if someone is taking this 5 does that mean there is a 4 going spare?
 11. Off to York on Wednesday and Thursday, so can anyone recommend a pub that has live bands on in York centre? As an aside I'll be looking for somewhere to stop off for a pub lunch on the way into York (from the North) so anywhere that does decent grub?
 12.
The door ain't ever closed John - but you know the issue.
I hear ya Alan...
 13. Just returned from a gig where I gave this bass an outing I ended up using it most of the gig! The only reason I'm selling is that it is just too similar to my Streamer Stage I to justify keeping when I'm looking for something different (a la Sadowsky). Oh and if you're trying to figure out how I can be posting at 21:42 yet I've just done a gig... 3 band Bank Holiday gig and we were off by 20:30. Now where's that corkscrew?
 14.
I'd walk from Reigate to Kingston to pick this up?????
Ah shucks... shame we couldn't sort out a little 3 way deal!
 15. So other than where you adjust the truss rod from they are the same?
 16.
Wet soil shouldn't be a problem unless it is rancid. I've seen pics of them (well, Phormium tenax anyway) in New Zealand growing in streams - adaptable plants!
Damn! You've seen straight through my bluff and lack of horticultural knowledge! On a bass related note; I've got interest in this bass that keeps blowing hot then cold but nothing concrete so a little bump before the Bank Holiday weekend draws to a close.
 17.
Whats that little black thing to the left of the E string below the pickup cover, it looks like something nailed to the body in that pic?
I think it's a safe assumption it will turn out to be a thumb rest/anchor; It's just about spot on positionally for someone used to a 2 pup bass... or at least it's exactly what I would have done!
 18.
HAHA it is quite funny, 1K to £200? even tho he is still asking more on here? he really does need to make his mind up Chelios
Don't get me wrong, I think it great to be optimistic with prices etc but there is always a tendency for well-intentioned people who give advice to others re. values (as with the OP), to be 'overly' optimistic/generous!
 19. £1000 down to £600, then down to £200 on ebay... it will find its true value soon.
 20.
Teasing Warwickhunt with the downsized Sunburst Sadowsky (Now living with CHRISDABASS)
Just you wait.
 21. As near as I can establish by doing some on-line searching, the difference is that the classic series is available for 'LESS' new than this is used!
 22.
Blimey, that mess went for four hundred smackers. I'm amazed. A "friendly" bid perhaps?
I would tend to agree.
 23.
For the un-initiated above, there is a world of difference between classic series MIM's and other MIM's. This bass is a classic series jazz in a custom color.
I'm uninitiated; what's the difference?
 24.
Nothing constructive to add re bass, which is rather nice, but your phormium in the background looks like it needs planting out. Got that limp look to it.
Unfortunately the nature of the soil i.e. not too well drained with a lot of moisture and the orientation of the garden with available direct sunlight means that the phormium needs to stay in the pot... added to which it looks nice standing on the decking. However, I will go and give it a feed and some water.
 25. Hopefully these pics might help but I can add that the neck has a volute behind the potentially vulnerable neck/headstock point so that may give you an idea of the profile. I'm not sure how helpful it will be but I've included a shot of a Jazz neck next to the Spector (the Jazz is a profile most people know)! and one more shot in all of it's glory (oh and my freshly mown lawn).
