I've been offered an Atelier z m-245 in part-ex for my Sadowsky but I know nothing about them and the Atelier Z home site isn't great... one review on Harmony Central isn't much to go on! Any info/opinions gratefully received and if anyone has first hand knowledge of values or any links to recent sales of used Atelier's, that'd be really helpful. <edit> Scratch that! The Atelier Z bass is a heavy un, so a none starter for me.
  2.
I wish this hadn't come back up on here...I'm all anxious again... How about, err...a Wechter 9400 ABG (original price £3900!) fretted by Martin Peterson, perfect condition and about 6lbs, a Sei Jazz 4 in Swamp Ash (no fancy top but a beautiful neck and abalone blocked, rosewood bound board) - excellent condition and around 8.5lbs...and £300 your way (£325 if you can deliver/collect)? It's the best I can do for lightweight 4s. Edited for minor change - offer for delivery etc. Oops, then edited again for miscalculation
Can you send me some pics of the basses in question and also where you live! The action on the acoustic is going to be of paramount importance.
  3.
Ive got some old Irish Punt notes if your interested??? Maybe Maybe not
If you use the Punt notes to wrap up some Euro notes I might be!
  4.
The most stunning Sadowsky returns Am I allowed to ask what you paid for it John?
Of course Peter, I didn't deliberately not print the price ... I paid Mark's full asking price for it; £2200
  5. This is a very recent acquisition and the ONLY reason I'm considering a trade for this is that I really can't justify owning a bass costing this much money and it not be my only/main gigging bass! I have a couple of other basses that I chop and change between and I'm happier that way, rather than having one instrument (especially as I have 3 bands on the go and all require different approaches/tones... well, IMHO) to do everything. The bass is in mint condition and has a Sadowsky light-case (rigid gigbag). I can and will take pics but tbh I doubt I can beat the pics taken by Roger Sadowsky's photographer, so I'll put those up for now, as well as the link to Mark's original sale and good pics (more to be found in the 'Gear Porn' Sadowsky thread). I'll flesh out loads of info if required but if you are in this league when looking for a bass then I'd expect you'd have a fair idea of what this bass is. . It goes without saying that it is UBER-light and the tone is huge! It is presently strung with DR Sunbeam 45-105s but I am quite happy to restring and set it up with lighter gauge strings (home set-ups are a doddle on this bass) 'for the right deal'. FINISH - Vintage Tint BODY - Spalted Maple on Chambered Swamp Ash with Black accent line FINGERBOARD - Birdseye Maple, 12" Radius, 1 1/2" Nut Width, Vintage Tint PICKGUARD - None HARDWARE - Black PICKUPS - Nordstrand Big Singles (wound for Sadowsky with Sadowsky engraved on the covers) Sadowsky Preamp with VTC WEIGHT - 7.65 lbs. (3.47 kg) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...hl=sadowsky+nyc http://www.sadowsky.com/stock/view/5091.html What do I want? I'm receptive to most offers but the bass being offered MUST be under/about 9lb in weight! I won't split hairs if the bass is an once or two over 9lb BUT recent experience of buying a 9lb bass, weighed on the 'bathroom scales' (person weighed with/without bass) that actually turned out to be 10lb 13oz bass, has left me needing a more accurate weight. Obviously I also don't want to do a straight swap for a similar priced bass (defeats the whole object of why I want to trade). Hit me with what you have for offer via PM and please include a price for the balance you are looking to add, it'll save a fair degree of PMs if I know that we are in the right area. I do have 2 offers on the table to buy the bass outright, so a straight sale is obviously acceptable but I'm not prepared to sell it for less than I bought it from Mark. Cheers. <edit> Ooops! Forgot to say that I'm only interested in 4 stringers and a fretless wouldn't be top of my list... but you never know.
  6. Is it your bass? Just my initial observations but... the body looks as though it has been stripped/refinished at some point, the upper strap button has been moved, it's had a refret and IMHO doesn't have any real 'kerb appeal'. I'm not saying the bass is a 'wrong un' but I'd not rush out to buy it even if it were cheaper. Just my thoughts!
  7. I must try and broaden my circle of friends! Another top deal with the 'Ryton Raggie', I ended up walking away with an EBS pedal that I didn't even need; what a sales man! Cheers mate.
  8. I'm sooooo good I now have two threads all of my own! Top blokes to deal with and I'll be 'hunting' down your feedbacks shortly.
  9.
Another Jazz bass gets passed about between me and John !! This time I take ownership of my "old" EMG equipped Squier - Welcome home !!! As good a Jazz Bass as I've owned under a Grand !! Top Bloke the Hunt !!!
And in the process I take possession of an EBS comp-pedal! I'm sure that Squier will end up back at it's 'Winter' home before too long. Cheers mate.
  10. To save me reading all 9 pages again... is there a simple, cheap way of having this moulded plugs made to take the music output from a phone (as well as being hearing protectors)? I don't own an iPod etc but my latest phone has an expandable memory and I'm quite digging the music feature of my 'phone' (though I'm beginning to think the phone isn't even the secondary function of the apparatus ). However, the headphones are cr*p! I seriously can not get them to stay in my ears AT ALL, even when sitting perfectly still. Unfortunately the output from the phone is one of the Samsung mini (flat) USB style adapters and there probably aren't going to be a whole heap of reasonably priced headphone/buttons available. Thoughts?
  11. I've sent him a 'question' pointing out the flaw in his present design. Not nasty in any way, simply pointing out in layman's terms what is happening with his design... we'll see if he prints!
  12.
while you were at work I nipped round to your gaff and had a Luthier look at your unfinished bass... TADA! No, don't thank me... It's *my* pleasure.
It took me a second or three to figure out what you were on about! Nice one.
  13. Interesting! I hope he has wired them out of phase with each other or he'll have completely missed the point of the Isobaric design principle and it will sound pants. If he's done it well/right then he's potentially going to get the same sound out of a cab that is half the size. So 'if' it has been executed well (not sure about binning the tweeter though I do know someone who has done that with the Peavey 2x10TX and they swear it was better with it completely removed) then it's probably not the worst DIY solution to transporting a cab in the back of a small sports car. I could be wrong but the rear ( ) speaker looks to be different from the... front speaker! <edit> Though he is potentially open to getting the listing pulled with his 'cash on collection only' statement!
  14.
I bought my '91 Thumb on eBay about five years ago for £670. Last month I was watching an auction for another '91 Thumb that ended on £1170 (IIRC) and ultimately sold to the same guy who'd sold me his for £670 + petrol money. So yeah, I think values are starting to get realistic again. Actually... He was from Tyneside somewhere, can't remember exactly, maybe you know him.
The one thing I do know is... it wasn't me! I've owned a good few Thumb basses (I'm a slow learner) but I'm pretty sure I've never sold one on eBay.
  15.
I've got a telecaster (guitar) which is great. No neck dive, and a joy to play. But the extra length of a bass neck makes all the difference, and tele shaped basses all seem to have serious neck dive. Someone once told me that to balance well on a strap, the top horn on a bass needs to stretch up towards the twelth fret. Tele shape doesn't get close, hence the neck dive. Which is presumably why Mr Fender shaped the Precision body the way he did. Tele shaped basses still look cool, though!
The Bolin has a very sw***y retractable/swivel strap extension which means that the 'strap button' on this particular SC is way up by the 12th fret! Marvelous, but you'd expect nothing less when Mr (NS) Steinberger is involved.
  16. All original other than the pups... Is that a Badass on it and chrome knobs?
  17. You have a PM.
  18. £939 for a used 4 string BO Jazzman... Feck! My 'Vintage' Ltd Ed NT Streamer with free shipping and a 'NEW' Warwick Leather Jacket is looking a positive bargain. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=110394841693
  19.
What - for 27 years? J.
Thievin' Bastids in Jarra, so yeh! Only joshing it's no worse than the (former) 'worst place to live in the UK' that I reside in!
  20.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140324776699 Actually a nice & very old Antoria Jazz, probably 1971. I fully expect this to get quite silly in its last few hours. Jon.
Actually Jarrow (pronounced Jarra) isn't that far from me and in all fairness if I lived there then I'd hide my bass in the attic as well!
  21.
It gets worse. They cut the wood out of the headstock instead of the upper bout. I'd take it back and complain if I were you
Now let's not sidetrack the thread... headstock designs needs a thread all of it's own! 2+2, 4 a-side, 3+1, reverse, slotted; the mind boggles.
  22.
John that's a bit grim, having a bass hanger on the outside wall of the house That'll be for the Fender?
When I built the garage it was the best door retainer I could come up with at the time! You're right about the Fender bit though... bliddy double cuts; patooey!
  23. Does this mean I have an excuse to slap up a pic of my Bolin again? What's not to love?
  24.
Isn't that Lysdexia's?
Without a shadow of a doubt!
  25. £650 for a BO Corvette... bodes well for the NT Streamers that I have for sale! Though I am loathed to eBay them, that may be the way forward.
