1.
Is it possible in that case then that the truss rod cover is not original? I don't know enough about Warwicks to be sure enough about details like that... although my 92 Streamer is most definitely NOT a bolt-on.
TBH I thought the cover looked like the screws were misaligned a bit but that can happen regardless of whether the cover is original or a replacement. IIRC the original BO Streamers may well have had covers just saying 'Warwick Streamer Bass', the later models may well have gotten the full LX designation on them. I think that I have an old Bassist mag that reviewed the LX model that may show what the TR cover was. However, no matter what the badge (XR3i badge on the back of a 1.1 Escort does not make a XR3i ) it is a Streamer bass which the seller has (sadly) been misinformed about!
 2.
Isn't there a Warwick employee on the Warwick forum? Maybe he should have gone there for advice. John, you are EXACTLY the sort of bloke Warwick SHOULD be employing! Peter
TBH Peter there are several knowledgeable guys high up on the 'W' forum whether they are on the pay-role or not I don't know. re. who Warwick should employ - There-in is the problem, when the man pays your wages you sing what the man wants to hear; I have a lot of experience with Warwicks and I know the pros and cons of their basses, I know the range reasonably well and I can tell a duffer at 20 paces (OK that's a bit poetic ) and with impunity I'll discuss my views re. Wick jack-sockets or the occasional foible with truss-rod direction etc. but I'm not sure it's what they'd want to hear what I had to say. I'll happily give advice about Warwicks (especially the earlier models, I'll be the first to admit I have little interest in 'some' of the stuff Warwick ave produced over the years) on any forum... whether people want to hear what someone like me has to say is another matter. I gave that eBay guy advice re. what his bass is and it's value (bearing in mind the damage) but sometimes the truth hurts. At the end of the day a bass is worth what someone will pay, I have a couple of basses up for sale and I know what they are; to some people the relative values may be high but I know when something is worth £600 or £1600 regardless of whether it is my bass or not.
 3.
Fair does! The guy has pulled the listing until he can look into the spec of the bass. A good sign that he may well be a genuine seller with no knowledge of a bass that he has owned for 7 years. However, he has one flaw in his plan... he has said he'll get the info direct from Warwick! From past experiences (and I'll give them the opportunity to get it right this time) the helpful people at 'W' HQ appear to be a bunch of accountants and/or Office Monkeys who at times don't know a great deal about their own 'vintage' or older instruments. They can (and often will) quote you the spec straight off their website but the number of times people have been convinced that their 88 SSI has an Ovankol neck because that's what the folks at 'W' HQ state a SSI neck wood is! Ah! Comments like that may explain why I never get invited by HP Wilfer to the Office parties and why I can't access the Warwick forum at the minute... the barstewards have locked me out!
Oops Warwick. I've just reread Warwick's response to the seller's query and yet again a classic from Warwick HQ! Warwick tell the guy his bass has a Wenge neck and fingerboard... fair does they may not be in full receipt of the facts from the seller but to claim it has to be Wenge when it is 'patently' maple is just another example of why it isn't always a good thing to believe the horse's mouth. Sigh! I just can't see them giving me that job any time soon if I continue to pick holes in my favourite manufacturers practices.
 4. Well he has response from Warwick and as predicted by Nostradamus here, they are c*ck on with their info and have valued his 'damaged' (BO) Streamer bass @ £1000 - £1500 @ they wish! Subsequently his BO neck bass with the damaged control cavity has gone up in value from £600 to £900. Luke mate, @ £600 you've undervalued your 'undamaged' NT SSI. In fact going off Warwick's used price list we should all be expecting at least £1500 - £2000 for a used NT SSI. 6. It is a BO LX I can assure you and the guy is playing very canny With a 'W' head on you can see that; were it to be a NT it would then be a SSII not SSI... however the neck/body joint is wrong for a NT SSI / II (if you've seen enough of them it just becomes second nature to spot). the headstock rear doesn't show any laminates commonly found on a SSI / II BUT they are correct for an LX. the silver hardware would be 'unusual for a SSI / II BUT correct for an LX. With an 'eBay' head on you can spot the telltale signs of 'fudging'; "it may well be a custom bass." - it 'may' but he's not saying it is. "I am not sure about this and would advise potential buyers to check with Warwick." - a convenient get out when you say "Hoy! this is an LX BO." he has very kindly/wisely (and correctly, I may add) given you a link to a similar bass retailing @ £1600... take more than 5 seconds to look and it is a BO LX bass he has taken you to. I will stress that he may be a genuine [s]numpty[/s] seller and have owned this bass for 7 years without realising that it ISN'T a Streamer Stage I / II (yeh right ) but we shall see as I've sent him an email (a very polite one not raggie or nasty) pointing out a couple of minor points. he does state he will revise his listing in light of more info so time will tell!
 7. All of the above.... with one teency overlooked fact; that it is a bolt-on!
 8.
but that's Feb 1st. Thought it was in March?
Chuffin heck, I'm wishing my life away! There's me gearing up for 1st Feb. I'd have looked a right t*t standing on my lonesome this Sunday.
 9. 4 string set (x2 sets) in cardboard packaging. These are Warwick's coated strings (feel and look just like steels) which are comparable to the Elixir strings. Normally retail for £30 - £35 ish... yours for £22 (per set) delivered.
 10.
Mint! Hopefully, I'll be bringing my new cabs... ...if they arrive in time!
You're cutting it a bit fine!
 11. If you are tilting the body toward you are you then not also tilting/rotating the neck around a bit, which is 'potentially' storing up long term strain injury problems (especially on a wide necked bass)? Just a thought!
 12. That'll be this Sunday then. <edit> ... in a months time
 13.
I am looking for a small ebs combo amp- think they do one that is 150w. Just want one for small gigs/practicing
A wanted ad... or for sale ad?
 14. I remember that bass when it sold on eBay a while back as a fretless. I never did get all of the answers as to 'who' did the fretboard work and it was always interesting that the fingerboard is neither ebony nor wenge... which always lead me to believe that the fingerboard had been replaced at some point in its life; not the end of the world but unusual.
 15.
Hi mate, The chaps on Talkbass seem to think the same. I guess the only way to know is to try it.... Here is the TB thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=511590 So it should DEFINITELY be OK then eh? I'm scared :-0
If it were me Ped, I'd not be overly worried (easy to say as it 'isn't' me ). There are loads of stereo switching amps that don't require a load on each side, I suppose you could get someone to sort you out a dummy load for the unused out but again I'd not be worried.
 16.
Oh quick Q... I have asked the seller (who seems a cool chap) but thought I might ask here too.. When I want to use this in stereo I hook up a speaker to each output of the amp, but for mono is it OK to just plug in one speaker and nothing into the other, or do both have to be plugged into something before I power up? Cheers ped
I had a Peavey DPC (digital power convertor) power amp and you could run it with just one side hooked up with no detriment to the side with no load on it (same as the old bi-amp GK 800RB that had a 100 + 300 watt pair of outputs, it still ran perfectly OK with only a single speaker connected to any one of the outputs). You'd only have real issues with valve amps running without a load attached!
 17.
But John you look so much younger now.....smarm....crawl.....etc...

That picture would look lovely on a tee shirt. You know, the type you could wear at a social event, say in Seaton Deleval on say the 1st of March
What a bunch of shiftless chisellers!
 18.
What an absolutely spiffing idea. Me and at least one other NE Basschatter would probably pay money to watch Mr Wateroftyne play a gig on a five string Warwick, eh Mr Hunt?
Now that would have been a sight to behold.
 19. So many dealings going back so many years that I hate to think! My first foray into having a Custom bass built was by Howard... (forgive the look, it was 20 years ago )
 20. My take... He has technical mastery of his instrument and is a good musician. Is he a bass player... in as much as he plays an instrument referred to as a bass then yes. Though IMHO you have to accept that (to my mind at least) he is a guitarist who has adapted some stuff for piccolo bass, good for him and I enjoyed it. I 'doubt' he'd get a gig playing bass (at least like that) in a local pub band around here but he could play down our local Buskers and we'd all sit quaffing pints, thoroughly enjoying his mastery of the [s]guitar[/s] bass.
 21.
Looks very similar to that one but has a cloth covering rather than the metal grill. Doesn't have a logo on the front either.
Cloth covering? Can't say I've seen any of the H&K cabs with a cloth grill, all of the ranges that I've seen have had solid kick-proof grills. A pic of the actual speakers with the grill off and knowing what the connector plate has for fittings and ratings info would really help.
 22. Beedster was selling one of the BassCustom range for £100 a while back, in fact... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=kettner ... and previously here @ £125 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=kettner H&K do a range of cabs and I'd pay £100 for a H&K 4x10 'IF' it was the same as this cab, were it not the same as this I personally would pass though it may well suit someone else's needs. Slap a pic up and let's see.
 23.
Sounds like the neck is too curved. Most jazz basses seem to work best with just a touch of relief towards the tuning end. The neck profile can also change if you've changed the string guages at all. Always surprises me how much difference it makes on a wooden neck. Rich.
Sorry Rich, how do you achieve relief at just one end of the neck?
 24.
I rather like the orange. (So predictable of me, hangover from my Uni band "Agent Orange"). But it's looking like shiny metal may be best. I think T-shirts could look nice though... I wonder how much the non-standard form-factor will make them identifiable? Alex
Is it possible to have the orange paint impregnated with some reflective 'bits' (shiny under lights) or even some form of luminescence (like some watch faces) so that after exposed to bright light it would still shine on a black/dark stage?
 25. That headstock looks very clean for a 45 year old bass! Has anyone asked if he lives in the Outer Hebrides yet?
