I do like Compression, but its my least favorite out of the 3 albums. Z x
Have you tracked down the Talas album; 'Sink your teeth into that'? Unfortunately I just have the vinyl version so can't (ahem) help you out with a digital copy had you lost yours.
Fair play .. I guess the £100 it's got up to is just £50 more than it's worth then ...
Now standing @ £155 so that'll be £105 more than it's worth... I hope the buyer isn't too disappointed.

Couriers ask for a weight and can under some circumstances penalise you if it is over, added to which pricing tends to be based upon volumetric weight so if you go for 15kg you can't go wrong. I've sent a few basses packed in cases and not a single issue if I use 15kg. Who are you using?

Just realised that in my post (#7) I called you Peter... I saw your avatar and mistook it for 'Peter' Greeneking's ACG. Absolutely nothing like your bass but strange the way your eyes/mind can play tricks on you.

Warwick SSI Endorsee Model... Oh no it isn't!
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
ahh, but you forget that it was [s]pulled off the shelf for[/s] made especially for that puddle of mud guy. Must make it worth at least an extra grand.(actually, I used to be into them, time to dig through the CD piles for a repreive methinks.)
It doesn't 'actually' say that the guy from PoM played or owned it. It states 'made for', any bass that anybody owns could have been made for any 'famous' player. The fact is that ANY SSI ever made could have been made for the PoM bassist. The devil is in the detail and without some form of authentication/verification it is just a SSI. -
Hi chaps, I'm toying with the idea of selling my 4string Ibanez SR900 and wonder if anyone has a good idea of what i should be asking for it. Its in excellent condition and has the Ibanez hardcase (this didnt come as standard). I don't believe they make them any more, its a through neck with flame maple body in transparent black and Bartollini pickups and pre amp. Mart
A quick search in the sale section on BassChat and on eBay reveals that the going rate would be £250-£300 though I'm not sure if the case would actually add a great deal to the deal.

Nice one Chris! So who can spot more than 3 famous faces on TSH's first picture on the link in the OP?
Dead spot eh? Get yourself a small G clamp to alter the headstock mass, then if that cures it, go buy a FatFinger, which is a neater professional G-Clamp device.

Is it a jazz? If it is, there's been quite a few posts about this issue and despite lots of views. It appears to be a "thing" with jazz basses in my opinion. Had the same problem on all my jazzes except a Roscoe beck (usually somewhere between the 3rd and 7th frets) I would think an aftermarket neck change at worst. As already mentioned, it could be the mass. Maybe some serious EQing could help a bit but that may compromise the tone generally. Call the Bass Gallery maybe for their opinion.
I may well be wrong but I think that the OP has said 'flatspot' not 'deadspot', i.e. a flattened area of the fingerboard, hence his raising the action etc. If that is the case in guitar repairer worth there salt will be able to level that board for you. You can do it yourself but you need the right paper and block otherwise you'll have rolling hills all over your fingerboard and nasty scratches.

So let me check off what makes this bass a 'special' endorsee model; "Look closely at the pics and compare to the run-of-the-mill Warwicks on Ebay. This one features..." three band EQ - standard on all SSI MEC pickups - standard on all SSI neck-through construction - standard on all SSI adjustable nut - standard on all SSI gold hardware - standard on all SSI 24 fret - standard on all SSI 34" scale - standard on all SSI reverse P-J pickup configuration - standard on all SSI It has a Hipshot D-tuner on it now (worth $110), and the original tuner will be included in the sale - Not standard on SSI BUT this was an aftermarket retrofit to this bass anyway Comes with the Warwick manual and tool kit etc - standard on all SSI deluxe Warwick gig bag - standard on all SSI One thing missing the truss rod cover - Ah! taking off the truss rod cover makes it an endorsee model. I must try that ploy next time I sell a SSI. Why you should never defret a wenge neck Warwick
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Ah, I was completely unaware of that kind of thing. I guess that would be more useful when regularly selling new items in larger quantities, whereas I can’t see the point of it for one off second hand items – I can’t see there being more than 1 or 2 badly defretted Corvette FNA basses in the world...you’ve got to hope anyway
The problem isn't restricted to high volume, new items. If you have a Fender MIM/MIJ/MIA P bass and you stick it on eBay then anyone considering selling a similar item simply needs to search for said same item and by simply sending a few emails you could well bag a buyer and scr*w the sale up for the poor guy who had to pay for the listing. With reference to this particular item; if you imagine you had a similar bass that 'hadn't' been butchered you could simply PM ANY of the bidders, point out how shabby the defret was and offer your bass as an alternative... if you were a bidder and someone offered you a better bass what would you do? -
MB1. Cant figure that Hidden bidders ID thing at all, i dont bid on anything that has those bids on it now!.....Very Suspect!
That is a tricky one actually! I used to ebay regularly (2000+ 100% rating, though rarely bass related) and I never made sales/bidding private/hidden. However, I did get wind that other sellers were contacting people who bid on my items (I had some regular buyers who made me aware of what was going on) and were offering to sell them similar or identical items, thereby losing me potential higher final value sales or meaning things just didn't sell as people were poached away. Eventually I realised how easy it was to do that; sellers didn't even have to list items, they simply trawled eBay for people selling similar items and made offers to the bidders. So I can appreciate that 'sometimes' it is a good tool for sellers not wishing to have bidders/buyers lured away. -

Why do people do this to basses?
warwickhunt replied to donhills's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful

IIRC Billy sat down with a Dremel tool in a hotel room and did that scalloping himself. Funny but if he put that bass up for sale I don't think many people would be asking what kind of fool would do that to a bass... in fact had the seller of the bass in the OP been a 'name' player and that bass was his main tool we'd probably be arguing that the start price was way too low and we'd be worried that it was a scam. As an aside; back around 1980 I had a late 60's Jazz and you have no idea how quickly I binned the cr*ppy tuners, bridge and pups and installed Di Marzios etc. It's all about perspective! -
Warwickhunt,I hate you right now,you post this for sale, just after I have some builders round to qoute me on some work-damn you!!!! Awesome bass, and IF I hadn't had the builders around and didn't have the wife breathing down my neck,I would now be owning it,but alas Very best of luck with the sale,it shouldn't take long
Oooops! I've stated that there are two interested parties and at the risk of upsetting them (I hope they'll understand), I've enough years under my belt to be upfront and say that it doesn't pay to sit back and wait to see if the deal works out with them! If you are interested PM me and if nothing is concluded promptly then I'd need to move on to the next interested person. I hope that sounds fair and doesn't come across as me wanting to elicit responses that will spoil their chances but all to often things come up and genuine people who have all the best intentions can't conclude deals. -
Blimey, that's a bargain!! Don't need another at the mo.... and I'm buying a house, so that's me out.... but someone will score a great bass here!
TBH I'd likely as not get more on eBay that's why I'm not going to mess about leaving it stewing for weeks. Of course the down side of putting a sale figure like that on the bass is that 'IF' someone has a Sadowsky or Lakland DJ then they are automatically going to assume that their bass is worth significantly more rather than looking at relative values and how much something cost new i.e. a replacement Spector Euro will set you back the thick end of £1500 which is in line with a Sadowsky Metro and a lot more than a Lakland DJ. I should add that I have no aversion to posting/courier, I was simply quoting the lowest price if you were to collect as is. -
I'm in the market for a back up amp - a couple of questions if you don't mind....what does " a little servicing" mean and will it be loud enough through 2x8ohm Aguilar 112s for small - medium sized gigs?
I can help you with the 2nd half of your question Al. I ran one of these some years back and as with most Peavey stuff they always seem to punch above their weight and as I recall I had no worries driving a pair of 8ohm cabs prior to getting a pair of 4ohm TX cabs. Speaking strictly in terms of wattage you'd be looking at about 130w - 150w out of each side but your cabs will make the most of that and for small/medium sized venues you'd be fine. The good thing is you could easily add another 8ohm cab or two and you'd not stress the amp.
Ah right I see, so something like this http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/a-70/12550 or this http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/take-12/12511 These were the 2 amps I have been looking at previously, might have to take a better look at them as second hand they would come into my price range
That kind of thing would be fine. Just be sure that your drummer doesn't use lead sticks and your guitarists know how to turn down as well as up. As you say 2nd hand will get you more bang for your buck and be sure to check the forum sale section regularly, the kind of thing you are after is exactly the kind of amp that people upgrade from.
What watt amp do you think I should be aiming for, would 15 be loud enough?
Without wanting to get too technical (though it isn't rocket science ) it isn't just down to the number of watts, it's dependent upon the speaker, manufacturers credibility with ratings etc. However, I'd say that 'generally' speaking, cheapie 15w amps/combos are not worth considering if you intend gigging. If you do a quick search on the subject you'll likely find that most 'gigging' bassists would recommend 250watts as a good starting point BUT (before you have a fit) that is assuming you are playing pubs etc with a drummer and a guitarist playing through 50-100w amp. You can obviously subtract from that rating if you are DEFINITELY not going to be playing along with an energetic drummer and your guitar players are playing acoustics either through a very small PA or small combos. However I'd say you want to be aiming for 100w and preferably a 12"/15" driver rather than a 10" (or heaven forbid a cheap 8"). The thing to bear in mind is that you can always turn a bigger amp down... it's not so easy to turn an underpowered amp up (well not without farty noises ). Good luck
-
The power splitting (2x200w into x2 4ohm loads) may not suit everyone but that is a cracking amp @ practice amp price! Pair this with something like a couple of Peavey 4ohm 2x10TX cabs and it makes a 'proper' gigging amp. Despite needing a service, if I were looking for a first proper amp I'd snap this up... probably because it was an amp/rig I ran many years ago. Good luck with the sale.
Oooo Chocolate.....Mmmmmmmm are those cabs heavy??
I have to confess I can live with the mid-weight for the tone but I so wish that they had put a pair of handles instead of one. I know that there are times when one handle actually works really well (short haul one cab in each hand) but there are just about as many situations where I do multiple trips, up stairs etc and I carry one cab grasped at the bottom/sides... hardly a chore, just saying! I have to confess I 'probably' like the chocolate or vintage tweed more than the black and silver.
