Hi John My Music stuff via ebay do the sunbeams in sets of two that work out £40 delivered, i only used the company once to get few sets of sunbeams it took a week to get to and they cocked up my order, when i emailed them they were not only unapologetic about my inconvinience they were rude. so im a bit reluctant to use them again, they did sort it out after another week and A half, i just use strings direct and have gone back to d,addario xl,s as they are half the cost, nowhere near the sunbeams though love em.-lee It looks like Thomann are about the cheapest for the Sunbeams @ £22... anyone found cheaper?
Cheers Lee, I found those strings on eBay, £40 for 2 sets isn't bad but as you say cr*p service is cr*p service! strings direct work out @ £54 for 2 sets of DRs! I know that Thomann do 2 sets of D'Addario's for £30 and GHS Boomers for £13 a set... B*ll*cks I might just take a chance on the ones from the States as I have quite taken to these Sunbeams. -

Just like it says in the title. This is the last set of EMPs that I won in a competition earlier this year (just put other set on the Spector). I don't use Steels so I'm looking for a quality set of Nickels, ideally DR Sunbeams. They retail at silly money so if you fancy giving coated strings a try have a bash at these. Alternatively I'll sell them to buy a set of nickels.
If it was was younger and had a normal Warwick bridge and MEC's I'd think about it .
Younger... YOUNGER! Blasphemy. Can't do nowt about the bridge but heck I'd swap the original MECs out of my SSII for these EMGs any day.
I love the various slower/longer versions of this that are kicking around, always thought the original was too short! Some of them go into the 'standard' version of the song after the slow part - this one is 7 mins long: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YzpMBscDNbM
That's the version we do! I only ever knew the single/album version and thought the guitarists in the band were being creative and had made that slow first half up.
The timing of this thread isn't ideal, especially when I'm pining for another Warwick, I miss them
Go on Josh you know I have a Thumb that you 'need'.

You could ask if there are any BCers in/around Tamworth and then see if they'd mind you popping along and trying their amp out. I'm not saying anyone would be up for letting a complete stranger come along and borrow their amp but I'd not object to any local newbie having a try of mine (under supervision) and if I knew the person I might be prepared to pop along and let them trial it at a rehearsal (in fact 2 BCers local to me have done exactly that and one of them now owns the same amp!). If people are polite and sensible you tend to get a positive response... be nice, be happy!
Maybe not, but one of their shills will quite possibly show up post-haste, as they have their employees use search engines to find threads like this one to weigh in with less than objective opinions. The Bose is adequate for bass, but is no better than a 2x10 at 1/4 the cost. As for PA, OK for coffee house gigs, but again grossly overpriced, and won't do large rooms.
I researched these a year or so ago and after talking to people who use them (guitarist/vocalist in coffee shop style bands) and people who sell them (you get honest opinions from people who you've dealt with for 20 years); it transpired that even with a 'pair' of their subs, you still wouldn't get the kind of punch you get from bog standard cab designs! I was told by the guy who retailed them to save my money and walk away... that was good enough for me! They are supposedly very good for duo's etc doing smaller buskers style gigs. -
So basically this 'double jazz' is 2 J single coil pups put in 1 moulded plastic unit..... bit like an SD cool rail..... Are they set up as h-buckers then? one would presume they are, otherwise unless they are coil tapped or switchable it would appear a bit 'gimmicky' to me..... a promo tool if you will .....
Warwick have been using those twin jazz pups for at least 17 years and yes they are coil tapped with a push pull pot. In the down position you have full humbucker in the up you get a Jazz pup. Quite versatile and not gimmicky at all, in fact MM started doing this with the pup they fitted in the Sterling.
Not any more On today's exchange rates it's now about £780. In fact a friend of mine had to buy some Euros yesterday and got less than one Euro per pound after he'd paid commission on the exchange! Probably no longer a good time to sell to the UK if you're in a Euro currency country. However, if anyone has something over here that you'd want to ship to Europe then there's never been a better time. . .
... Just don't use PayPal as their exchange rate scr*ws you big style!
How useful is this comparison? Who knows what a bass is *really* like until you've used is at a gig? Not I...
That's the truth BUT we are talking 'comparison' i.e. how one sounds against the other. My comment about the usefulness of the comparison was aimed at the fact that if they didn't use identical strings and settings then you aren't getting anywhere near a useful comparison (though as you say it don't mean squat till you fire it up with other instruments). TBH if you've got the kind of money it takes to buy a CS Fender, no comparison on earth is going to convince you that a £250 bass is as good as a £2500 one.
Seems to me the main difference between Ed Friedland's basses and the classic vibe models were his strings seemed to be older and more played in whilst the no doubt factory fresh cv's had lovely bright new strings. I play a squier (1983 precision) 'cos at the time it was about a third the price of a US built Fender and unless you looked very closely at the small print on the headstock you couldn't tell if one of those was built in the US or in Japan anyway. If you don't like the logo you can always stick some masking tape over it........
Ah! Now I just assumed they would have strung all of the basses with identical fresh strings, just as I would take for granted that the recording/desk settings would have been flat so as not to advantage any particular instrument. Maybe it's just me but if that isn't the case then any comparison is pretty much a waste of time!
I have a maple necked '96 Streamer 'Bolt-On' coming my way on Tuesday...
You learn something new every day. BO Wicks aren't my bag but I can't ever remember seeing a review of a BO maple necked Streamer! There are a few NT editions that have 3 laminate maple necks but I thought W preferred wenge and ovankol for their BO due to the strength.
I think I've got the same rig/bass - I'll get a good idea today of the true sound and ability. John, I'm disappointed for you but hey, at least you know now. I'm liking the neck profile on mine, it's a tiny bit fatter than my 44-02 and about the same width. I'll do some recording at our rehearsal this afternoon and se how it cuts through.
TBH Sean, I'm not disappointed in the bass in any way (and that isn't just sales pitch ). If I didn't have a long term relationship with my SSI I think I'd have been over the moon with the Spector. That isn't to say that the Wick is better than the Spector, they are just different and I happen to prefer 'certain' aspects of the Wick. I'm sure if we got half a dozen bassists together who all had various Streamers or Spectors we'd all find one that we preferred above the others and that's how it is with this bass. Whoever buys it will be over the moon and may well not care for my SSI in the slightest, though they'd be more than welcome to come along and do an A/B before buying.
