Yep, listening to those recordings there's not a lot in it. I would add the caveat that it wasn't exactly a scientific approach as there was some discrepancy in the the output/recording levels of some of the samples (evident when they blended mid play), which 'might' skew how one or other of the basses came across. However overall I'd agree with marcus that in a live situation you'd be VERY hard pushed to tell the difference between most of those.
As the proud owner of both models I can vouch for their magnificence although the price increase for Spectors does seem a bit daft in the current climate. I'd never thought of blinging my Euro with god knobs but I think I just might.
'IF' it is a deal clincher I have a brand new set of Warwick gold knobs that I can put on the bass!
I've just got in (slightly pissed) from seeing Alan (NGH) using his backline and Spector Euro. Immense!!
Then you must want another one Peter.
Yeah John I bought it off howard as you know, but we should try and find the interim owners, i wonder if they are basschatters, Howard must know who had it before me , i didnt really ask at the time he, did mention the refinish by dave though, i do know i went to my bank at the time and extended my loan to buy it and a fantastic EBS rig at the time, being an employee of a bank now , i now know that was a bloody silly thing to do, as my then girlfriend and now wife informed me at the time. But hey the GAS rules and wifes are a walking continent of common sense. have a great xmas mate-lee
Funnily enough I've spoken to Howard on the phone a couple of times in the last few weeks and I was planning on calling in on him as it's been a long while since we've seen each other... in fact that sounds like a nice way of whiling away the next few hours! -
In short; for the extra (short-term) output you'll get at 2 ohms, I'd go for a pair of 8ohm cabs and give yourself a 4 ohm load for future use. Setting aside your choice of mixing speaker sizes (I anticipate the appropriate authority will clarify why ... that's genuine not taking the p*ss ), there aren't as wide a selection of 2 ohm heads as there are 4 ohm (the industry standard). You can dare t be different if you like (there are 2 ohm heads out there) but TBH it just makes for an easier life if you aim to operate @ 4 ohms... generally.
I still smile when i see that bass I owned this red warwick streamer for nearly five years and its great, but i never loved it as much as warwickhunt does (he owned it before me) the irony is ive played warwick streamers for ten years, and i only used them because i wanted a spector and thought i couldnt afford one, great design and fantastic whatever you use , both are great basses whichever you use- lee
I'd dearly love to fill in the gaps between me part-exing this to Howard Satterly at Newcastle's 'Bass Place' and you getting it; it must have had an interim owner or two! -
It's a Warwick Pro-M bass and I'd not cry foul immediately, as I recall the end of the fingerboard being squared off but 'if' that is a maple neck (wenge board) then it is 'wrong' (I owned a fretless version of this; can still get a pic of it tomorrow as a local guy has it). I couldn't say the paint job is wrong or awful because each to his own but I don't quite "get it"! Is it supposed to be/mean anything or did someone just get bored?
this made me smile. when i saw them for sale my thought was: "i know someone who is looking for one of them, Ill tell him, he wont be interested as I can not for the life of me imagine why/how that would be so much better than the Streamer he sold me 6 months ago." at least this one isn't blue so folk will buy it!
Just watch, blue will be everyone's favourite colour! -
I didn't think that Italy was on the way to Solihull anyway Still a fine bass, but probably way over my limit of funds...
Nah, a guy from the Warwick forum contacted me last weekend and wanted the bass but before we completed the sale (luckily for him) the timing belt on his car went, causing a HUGE repair bill. Nice to know that Italian garages are as expensive as over here.

Some nice Bass Collections for sale
No i wasn't just talking about the outline I mean pickguard, controls, pickups etc. And I've always thought P/J combinations look kinda cheap on that style of body. They look ok a jazz/precision, but i'd rather have soapbars or something on that sort of body style. I admit though, i haven't seen any of the more fancy ones though, just ones like that.
The pics aren't that great but I'd say that the 5 string is a higher grade bass than the normal painted basses, as I can see a sandwich/coachline around the body where the hardwood top sits on an ash/alder back but TBH it could probably do with a complete rub down and re-waxing/oiling to get it back to best. -
Sorry to hear it's not for you John. I had band practice with mine last night and it was as good as I'd expected, and I had expected a lot. Lots of in yer face bassiness. With a new distributor in the offing the present availabilty is drying up and the prices as going in the same direction for new stock. As an example Thomann were a bit over £1500. They are now : http://www.thomann.de/gb/spector_euro_4_lx_fmt_bc.htm So this is a real opportunity folks to grab a great bass at a price that's really reasonable. Peter
Cheers Peter. The good thing is that £780 was a far better price than £1500+ -

Ahem... Cough... This is officially up for sale! If you want all of the ins and outs of why then PM me but ultimately I had GAS, had to have one and now someone can reap the rewards of my narrow-mindedness. Sale price of £670 will include straplocks, a nearly new (I've used it for my Streamer) poly hardcase (not a Spector case but a one that I bought online to ship a Dolphin bass in before I realised the model case that I bought had a preshaped interior... Spector/Streamer shaped not Dolphin) AND price includes shipping in the UK. Before anybody chips in with the fact that a couple of these were recently available @ £599, I know that! I had the opportunity to buy those BEFORE I informed the present owners they were available; as it happens I wanted this amber finish rather then the black cherry or blue so I passed those up in preference for this one. There are a couple Spector Euro basses available in REVERB stores etc but the best price I got from them was £999 (up to £1249)... so quite a saving on new (more so if you go to Thomann). I'm not flexible on the price (I may have more money than sense but I'm not a feckin eedjit ) but it is possible you could have this before Christmas. You are now free to direct your ire and incredulity at my folly, as you see fit. -
Some nice Bass Collections for sale
Fair play if you like them, i just find them a bit boring looking.
A bass collection looks 'boring' but a Musicman doesn't! I'm assuming your not talking aesthetic outline of the bass. There is/was a huge range of finishes on the Bass Collection basses with fancy wood tops etc. they also did there own take on the Jazz bass which was very nice indeed. I owned a sunburst Bass Collection (I believe cd_david from the forum may have also been an owner of that bass) many years ago and it was as described; a nice, light, easily playable instrument, not offensive in any way but not the most tonal character in the world but I wouldn't be embarrassed to play one again. -
Woo Hoo for Katie... she deserves a new pair of shoes... boots... high heeled boots... thigh length high heeled boots... thigh length high heeled boots with [s]a strap-on[/s] straps on!

Rehearsals = 1 Aggie DB112 + Thunderfunk Gigs = 2 Aggie DB112's + Thunderfunk Almost the same tone at rehearsals as gigs but just less of it. I don't get a shock when I practice songs on one bit of kit and suddenly it doesn't sound the same at gigs!
Well Jaaaaahn I think we have a lotta issues to explore here. I'd like to book you in at your earliest convenience so we may continue our enlightening discussions. I'm thinking there maybe some unresolved issues concerning guilt and committment. Perhaps a dilemna between what you felt was the right thing to do and what you felt compelled to do. I mean Jaaaahn, lets face it, you've known this instrument intimately for 15 years and then you let it go. Perhaps you're still seeking closure Jaaaahn, perhaps you feel a little guilty about the way in which you let this instrument go so easily? Please speak to my secretary on your way out and we'll fit you in for dinner sometime next week... ...look forward to seeing you soon!
Can I bring my Marmy?
Did you fancy a change of bass playing scenery perhaps?
Well Doctor, it all started when my Mother...! Not a coincidence I suppose that I'd pretty much used the same couple of basses for gigging for 15 years when my band of, let me see... 15 years, folded! Not a word of a lie I've dabbled now and again with plenty of basses and build up a collection of some of the best I'd come across but been blissfully happy with what I played (inc amplification) on a day to day basis; yet when the band that I'd been in with the same original line-up since day one (oops with the exception of WoT's guitarist for the first couple months) 'imploded' I suddenly had the desire to change amplification rather than fix it when it went wrong and lo-and-behold I started selling basses I'd owned for 10-15 years and been blissfully happy with. I also started looking for all sorts of esoteric bits of gear inc basses. What's that you say Doc, time is up. When can I book another session?
Well I've tried to have a specific purpose for each bass in my collection and its worked for me. Each bass has a purpose or a role. Even if I am just clear about the fact that I've 'collected' it, and its an indulgence.
I normally have a similar philosophy Steve, hence my recent acquisition of a P bass for a traditional 'classic rock' band but it didn't take long to realise that even though I could justify that it had a place on looks alone I couldn't get away with that big old plank of wood they call a body (WoT ). I do have one indulgence in my collection actually and that is the Bolin. It does everything well and has some tricks up its sleeve (piezo) that none of my Warwicks can achieve but if I have to pick up a bass for a gig it is invariably one of two basses; SSI or Infinette! Actually this talking lark IS quite therapeutic, MAYBE I'm pursuing another alternative bass so vehemently BECAUSE I've just sold one of my main gigging basses, feck knows why as I'm more than happy with the tone of the alternative I have. I do know that one remedy will be a full band diary!
FWIW, if I purchased any bass with that expectation, I would probably be setting myself up for disappointment. In terms of playability there's probably not a lot in it between the two IMO. In terms of sound, the Spectors are probably more aggressive sounding. Whether thats a good or a bad thing probably depends on the context. Its probably best to view the bass as a tool with a certain tonal character. What you do with that tool obviously is up to you.

I actually got the oil finish flame maple Euro 5 because it reminded me so much of an SS1 I owned for a number of years. I loved the Streamer Stage 1 and I love the Spector too. I'd have both if I could. they're both great basses
Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking one nor the other and I was well aware that I was buying a bass which in many respects sired the very bass that I have used for many years, more importantly they share the same pup config even if they are different manufacturers. I suppose for me I was wanting to move my tone on to the next level as I'm slowly but surely whittling down what I need and want (I even sold one of my Infinettes which has been my 'main' bass for 15+ years, which is something I thought I'd never do). Oddly enough though I could very easily own a Warwick Streamer and a Spector I think I subconsciously wanted to find something new (even though I KNOW they are very similar)... I'm chasing this around in circles; where's Peter with his therapy talk when you need him? I wish my various band projects would get into the gigging groove as this always happens when I'm not gigging enough.
