11.
The only bass I have at the moment is this one. Harlot R Type But I am be able to finish another before March and I will try to find out if Peter can come along he has a 4 string Harlot. I am in no way reasonable for marital discord and will run away and hide if any spouse talks hard at me.
Phew! That bass has the wrong ( ) number of strings so I'm safe.
 12. Yep I've owned a couple JV basses (inc big Fender logo) and they are comparable with a good Fender BUT sometimes imho people get carried away with the collectability and price! At the end of the day you could say that they are a very good Fender bass (never heard of a duff JV) but that is all they are; a good ('possibly' better than the genuine Fender of the era) Fender bass guitar. So what would you pay for a decently fettled early 80's Fender? To me that is about the value of a JV Squier UNLESS you are a collector.
 13. I can vouch for this Streamer, the tone may not suit Luke but it is typical early Warwick 'Sound Of Wood' growl. Good luck with the sale Luke.
 14.
Might try to come along if I have a bass to bring. Alan
The more the merrier and to have a bass builder with some original examples would be great. Though I have to admit it 'might' upset Mrs WH as she knows that I've mentioned your basses once or twice... always a bad sign in our house when I mention a bass more than twice!
 15.
Guys, on the parking thing, I work for P&G, on the same road as the arts centre. Parking can be a bit of a beggar on weekends, so I'll suss out how far a walk it is (it'll be no more than 5 mins), and for those not wanting to leave vehicles on streets, I may be able to swing the use of the P&G car park (security on hand etc). If this would suit please let me know, and I'll see if the HR team are OK with it. I know it'd be a pain unloading gear, then moving the car, but I'm guessing it'd be a useful thing. Let me know folks
Though I don't know the exact area in question it can't do any harm to have a back-up parking plan, nice one.

 18. Too pricey? If he knows what the going rate is then the price could be negotiated!
 19. Did anyone notice this owld fella creeping in by the back door? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry384458
 20.
I was going to post that there are plenty of oldies on here, but then saw your first paying gig was the year I was born! Glad to welcome someone who makes me look young!
I can assure you The BD makes 'anyone' look young. Saying that anyone who can still haul their lazy ars* off the sofa on a Sunday afternoon to go and do a gig with a 6 piece band at the venerable Doc's age deserves respect (hope the gig went well) Nice to see you active on here at last, before you know it you'll be in the thick of it sprouting all things bass.
 21.
How hard is it to get to the venue from the centre of Newcastle?
Not impossible but a Metro ride and then a bit of brown nosing with someone who has a car (hint below) wouldn't go amiss.
But my car has decent space in the back if anyone needed a hand transporting gear.
22. I was round at a mates place today and he has an SWR 4x10 cab for sale @ £195. One of the drivers has been 'temporarily' replaced with an Eminence unit but he hasn't sent the SWR driver off to be reconed just yet (it was a bit scratchy). I think he said that the price would include the SWR driver reconed and swapped out for the Eminence unit but I'd need to confirm that; either way you'd be buying a cab with 4 working drivers. Pics to follow but you know the score... black box covered in 'rat fur' with a metal grill. I'd need to confirm the ohmage but ideally it'd be collection from him in Tyneside or if you are in and around Newcastle he'd happily drop off the cab. I suppose carriage is a possibility but the size and weight would mean that you'd need to organise this yourself.
 23.
Sorry but IMO opinion for that budget you are wasting your time. If you were spending £2-3K though?
... and BF jumps in with both feet first! 1. Bass-specific power amps seem to be well pricey - is this a necessity for a decent tone? No. 2. How well matched (if at all) do the amps have to be? Don't 'have' to be at all. 3. Can anyone point me towards a good web resource? Hmmm... No. 4. Can anyone show me any working examples - something that would be feasible at a second hand price of £200-300 Again, No but I've owned a couple examples (Tech21, BBE, H&K Fortress into variously Peavey DPC, Yamaha, Carver) which cost a bit more than your budget but certainly nowhere near even £1k. You could get a used preamp for not a lot of money depending on what you want and power amps these days are relatively cheap (even new) though you could obviously spend silly money if you wanted. Actually thinking about it I reckon you could put together a pre/power rig for not a huge amount more than £300 especially if you are open to trying some early preamps (Yamaha did a 2U one iirc) that may look a bit dated but do the job.
 24. 1) Who's up for it in principle? Me 2) Would you prefer a weekend afternoon or a weekday evening? Either / or 3) Would you be prepared to chip in - literally - a quid or two for hall hire? No worries. I know a few guys over on Ginger Gits voiced interest so we can flag it up on there. As WoT said, it's just a chance to shoot the breeze and talk sh*te with like minded eejits.
 25.
We are often quick to have a whinge about bad service so I thought I'd balance it out by saying I've just had excellent service from Brandt over at ThePerfectBass.com in The States, who supplied 5 sets of DR strings for under £100 inc delivery (inc 15% discount for being registered on TB). I've never used TPB before (recommended by Molan) but I reckon at those prices I may well do again. If you intend using them it might be worth mentioning that you heard about it through this site/me/Molan and even if you're not registered on TB he may well be able to sort out a similar discount... no harm asking.
Damn... spoke to soon; I just got a bill of £20 from Fed-Ex for the import taxes/charges. Still cheap enough for what they are over here.
