I have to visit Solihull on Sunday to collect a bass so if anyone would like to buy my Thumb bass and you live anywhere on the M1 corridor between Newcastle and Solihull, I can deliver in person! Make me an offer between now and then and we'll see what we can do. Pics and details here... B*mmer about your job but as someone who has been through it (more than once or twice... and an impending redundancy in 2010 'at least I get a fair bit of notice'), it's often astonishing how it can be a catalysed for change to the better. -
Cheers, I'll give that a try!
B*gger, that didn't work! A deposit of $1000 netted me £624.60 (after $39.30 fees and their exchange rate). Thanks for the heads up on trying that one, obviously transfers from the States don't work like UK transfers.
Yep she has been pointed in this direction. Haha if it gets relisted I might start 2 new accounts and bid it right up so he gets huge fees.
Unfortunately he won't get huge fees unless you complete the sale! Now that would be dedication to the cause.
Example 1. If I was to send money within the UK - you have two, tabbed options to send as 'purchase' or 'personal'. If the money is sent as personal>other then PayPal accept that as a private transaction and there are no charges for using it. Example 2. The chap who just bought a bass from me in Holland, did not have the choice available to him and so had to send it as a purchase. PayPal charged as they would for any eBay transaction. So, you would have to check with the buyer if he has the option available in their country.
Cheers, I'll give that a try!
The fact this fella, even after being caught out and admitting to selling a fake, would still offer it to the current highest bidder at nearly 400 quid knowing full well its a fake just shows the guy is a slimey tosser trying to get what he can even after being exposed as a fraudster.
I'm not sure that the seller has tried to sell it to the next highest bidder yet... has he?
Hiya That's interesting about Paypal .. Can you just clear up the difference though? Both look like >personal>other

Well, they are the same, but one I referred to when you DON'T use that option and then again to indicate the service can be free if you DO use it. I just found out, for example, the folks in Holland don't even get the choice.
Nope... you've lost me on that one! I'm looking to sell a couple of basses Internationally and one guy in the States needs to pay via PayPal (quite a substantial sum, so I'll be hit for about £100 in charges), if we could do that without incurring charges we'd both be over the moon; are you saying it can be done?
You might get £400-£450 for it, but with it being an unlined fretless it might be more difficult to find a buyer. Warwick values are pretty depressed at the moment. Neck-through Thumbs and Streamers are changing hands for £6-800.
Like the man said ^ That's pretty much bang on. There has been an LX4 up for sale on the forum for a while @ £400 which has recently sold but I've no idea if the seller got his asking price or had to drop that price! There's a guy on the Warwick forum looking for an LX4. He may not want a fretless but you never know! Hughes and Kettner BassBase600 *feeler*
warwickhunt replied to TheButler's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I sold this amp to Jamie a year or two ago and I have to say it was/is up there in my top 5 of amps (and I've had a few ). It has just about every feature that a bassist could want/need and the headroom is phenomenal (does 2 ohms if you need it to). I only got rid of it as I was going lightweight, otherwise I doubt I'd have gotten rid of this... saying that since making that decision I've shied away from digital/switching amps and TBH this amp (especially for the power) isn't 'that' heavy! To summarise; a fine amp and tone to spare. -
This is a metal band of some sort I'm guessing? I'm never going to understand that... why do metal bands always have to have weird tuning AND why does that mean that the bass has to tune the same?
... because guitarists get confused when they see bassists playing in a different position on the neck.
Fair enough. That's weird because Reverb are Arbiter, so they were already giving themselves preferential prices on Spector. There's no announcement been made to the trade press, which is usually where this sort of rumour ends up first.

Interesting. Maybe it's BS to try and and shift some stock by creating some panic buying. No chance of that from me at the moment. Other (less interesting) fish to fry.
Oddly enough I 'am' in the market for a Spector and I've heard of a couple of ex-Soundcontrol/REVERB Spectors available but none in a finish that makes me want to part with my money. I have been communicating with Darren at the Bass Merchant re. an amber model that he has in but the thought of further clear outs/price cuts on Spector basses (added to the couple of very cheap ex SC basses and the perceived second hand value of the Spectors after the last sell off) means that I'm not prepared to throw anywhere near retail price money at a 'new' model! So if anyone sees a purdy amber/orange number let me know and there'll be a nice Christmas bonus in it for ya!
Value and worth are different things to resale price. I know I can't get nearly as much as I spent on it for my franken P bass, but I play it over basses that cost more than it did.
I think we are agreeing on the same things. However all things do have a monetary 'value' or 'worth' and what the owner of a modded instrument values their bass at isn't strictly always what a buyer thinks it is worth! I do agree that sometimes a bass is worth far more than it's monetary value. What I was trying to point out to the OP was that IMHO you can often end up spending a lot of money on something that should it not turn out what you wanted then you'd probably find that you'd never recoup the money spent on said instrument, sometimes better to just find the instrument that you want that has already been modded or meets your needs as it is.
-
The thing to consider when going down the route of modding (the voice of experience... from someone who doesn't always take notice of his own experience ) is that the costs of the mods do not/rarely increase the value of the original instrument; they may make it easier to sell but the price won't reflect the money spent. Added to which you have to consider what would you pay to just buy a better model of bass than pay to buy a cheapie and then add the cost of the mods? e.g. Cheapie bass + cost of mods = decent instrument; worth cost of original bass (minus depreciation... often high on low end basses) + small percentage of mods 'V' Mid priced bass + NO mod costs = decent instrument; worth cost of original bass (minus depreciation... often not as high as on low end basses) There are no hard and fast rules and you may well end up with a better instrument if you go the modding route but 'You pays your money...'

Nooooo! As a former owner of this bass I have to say the piezo sound is truly phenomenal. 'IF' I were a 5 string player I'd never have let this bass go (I still retain the 4 string version). John Bolin builds basses and guitars for some of the worlds top musos and you can not get a production version of this bass anymore; you'd have to pay serious money for a custom Bolin bass. This is one of the few 5's I've ever been comfortable on... I'm still in two minds as to whether to get this back or get an alternative 4 string. Hngh!
A very [s]sly[/s] clever seller. More fool the sucker who gets drawn in by his response to the questions asked.
I still stand by the first half of my comment, he may well be very clever in that he may get a decent price for what amounts to a 70's Fender neck and a junk body and electrics that would struggle to make £50 without a neck.
A truthful and succinct summary of his listing... bet he doesn't appreciate it though.
