1.
Ugly ? I think its very nice ! Could do with cleaning the wood any ideas people ?
I hope you realise my tongue was firmly in my cheek with that comment... Cleaning ingrained dirt/sweat burns from a natural finish bass is 'virtually' impossible to do without stripping and hand sanding the whole bass. Were that my bass I'd have to way up the hours of work involved against whether it'd be worth just giving another wax and living with the mojo... leave it and just play it. Saying that if you sell it to me I'll clean it and post lots of lovely pics so that you can see what a thing of beauty it is awww cr*p that negotiating tactic didn't come out right!
 2.
Good work indeed. There was talk in the original threads of Jake paying back the money that was donated. Assuming that this is still the case (as would be right and proper), who exactly is being paid back? Presumably the people who donated the funds in the first place? Will he also be repaying the extra £100?
I'm an advocate of Jake paying what he owes. However, I do confess that though it may be morally correct for him to pay the extra £100 as well, I don't think that he need pay for our generosity. I would be happy for one to have the donation that I made given to a worthy charity were Jake to do 'the right thing'. Time will tell if Jake's heartfelt apology has any substance.
 3.
Another reason for my seeking advice. I didn't want something to go wrong with shipping and have this Czech gentleman appear on BC and then have the BC SWAT team come crashing through my computer monitor. Actually, it wasn't long after I signed up that all the business kicked off, and as I've been trying to flog the Warwick I was terribly worried that I wouldn't have any luck, due to my newbie status. It's a shame these things happen, and a rotten deal for those on the (non) receiving end, but I'm pleased to see that people around here look out for each other. Sorry for weighing in a little late, just my 2p and all that. Cheers for the advice. I hope Reuel is/soon will be enjoying his hard earned Vampyre as well as the buyer of my Thumb hopefully will. JP
That is one of the reasons that I'd advocate doing everything above board (ie customs declarations, insurance value etc) otherwise if it all goes horribly Pete Tong then you can't be accused of being at fault. I realise 'why' some people ask for things to be done underhand and[s] if there is a clear (written) agreement that the buyer is responsible should things go wrong[/s]... actually strike that! If an instrument is damaged or lost in transit then the last thing you want is you being libel by the other party/paypal/customs etc. The shipping side of things is no different to sending a bass to the other end of the UK. A courier collects, 'slings' it in the van (hence the flightcase and double boxed wrapping) and you know nothing more till it arrives at the other end. TBH it is the buyer that should be concerned (no slight on you intended) and they should be the ones doing the checks and establishing if you can be trusted, after all you'll be receiving the money before the bass is shipped I take it? You could of course use an Escrow service... in fact you live in Newcastle; I'll hold the bass and cash for each party @ a very reasonable charge of a fine bottle of wine!
 4. I think that Reuel's reply is possibly tempered by his recent 'experiences'. In the last year I've shipped to Romania and Canada and though there were glitches along the way with UPS (http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=19770&hl=ups+warwick) it got there in the end. Shipping Internationally isn't a huge issue;

Ensure that you have a secure payment method.
Be sure that the buyer is aware of shipping costs from very early on - as a guide it cost me £120 - £150 for my shipping costs.
Pack the bass well.
Get adequate insurance for the item (and make sure the courier firm know that it is for a bass guitar).
Send the buyer the tracking number asap.
It isn't worth telling lies on the various forms as it 'may' come back and bite you or the seller in the backside.
Good luck.
 5.
Can I dangle mine over your head until you get one?
Yes but what about the bass... Boom Boom!
 6. Sorry to dredge up an old thread (though I'm sure one or two folks won't mind )! Did anyone buy an amber/amberburst finish Spector in these various sales that is now wanting to move it on? I can do cash or a trade if you still need a bass. PM me any thoughts. Ta
 7.
Current bid £4.61. Has no-one contacted the seller yet? He said that if anyone knew for sure that it is not genuine, he'd amend his listing.
Where does it say that?
 8.
So glad that I am allergic to carrying huge bits of kit around and do not have any regular gigs that need this kind of grunt! Yes, that is the thought process of a man who is persuading himself
What he said. Cracking price!

Far better off going back to your Status. I'll take it off your hands to save you having to look at it any more.
 11. An 88 bass would be during a transition period for Warwick so could well have Maple or Cherry wings, a 1 or 2 piece bridge and/or predominantly wenge neck with maple stringers or maple with wenge stringers. Pics if you please.
 12. Buy a bass that looks sexy as f*ck. I'm shallow I know but unless a bass is so damn good looking that I have to pick it up as soon as I see it then as the Dr says, all of the other things can be fixed/modded. If a bass looks like a piece of sh*t then no matter how it sounds I'm not going to want to play it or have anyone see me playing it. I'm sure I could draw an analogy about whether you'd rather be seen with a bikini clad Supermodel who hasn't got the faintest idea of which end of a vacuum cleaner does the sucking (no BBC style pun intended), who can't boil an egg or a bird with a face like a Bulldog chewing a wasp who can wash dishes whist dusting the fireplace (again, no BBC pun) and simultaneously serves up the best soufflé ever! HOWEVER, that kind of analogy could be 'so easily' pulled apart... but you get the gist.
 13. Find a local upholstery firm in the yellow pages, a friend of mine runs a company that re-covers sofas, chairs and the like (yes re-covers rather than dispose of the old and buy new... a rare thing these days hence her company is struggling) and years back she supplied my band with covers for our PA speakers. Shouldn't be 'that' expensive to get the material, if your wife has a decent machine to stitch them. I'd ask my friend if she had any but then you'd need to add on the postage costs so it may be better to source it locally. If you get stuck and just require the material I can enquire for you but I do know that they don't have the manpower available to divert from well paid work re-covering 3-piece suites to run up covers!
 14.
Oh. You mean you don't stick odd numbers of pennies onto the end of your bids? I always do. Might be that he really wanted to limit his highest bid to £380 but hated the thought that it might go for a couple of quid more than that.
Come on lets look at this objectively. Like you I ALWAYS chuck odd £ and pence on whatever I intend reasonably bidding (ie £400 is something like £403.55... or whatever) but you can't seriously think that someone bidding 'almost' £400 is going to bid £389.99? I accept that if the bidders limit was £380 that he might chuck a quid or a few pence on top of that, say £381.75 or whatever but £389.99... If your limit is £390 you'd at least bid £390 NOT £389.99 that is so close to the kind of rounded of bid that someone would usually place (£390) that you are almost begging to be beat. Sorry I have to say that if I see any bid of £XXX.99 that is just below a significant number then I'll have to think it's a dodgy bid. If the person genuinely wanted to bid to win, the least they would do is round it up to the nearest £ or a few pence over!
 15.
That was written by an imposter
An imposter would have haggled a better deal than you mate!
 16.
It's on a beautiful '70s body at present. If you have trade material we could talk.... (I have to be careful here as I've promised the For Sale regulars that I'm not selling anything for a while )
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=33244 OK who had 24 - 48hrs in the sweep?
 17.
Which one are you bidding on? I only ask because I want to place a bid for £399 ... :brow:
Well I'm bidding £1001.01 so I'll beat you!
 18.
But they didn't put in a bid of 399-99, they put in a bid of 401. However, 399-99 of the bid was used to cover the previous maximum of 389-99 plus the increment of 10. As soon as someone bid more than 409-99 (399-99 plus increment), the bid went to its maximum of 401, hence the next bidder had to bid at least 411.
I think we're chasing the same thing around and we agree with each other. One of the bidders placed a bid of £389.99 which is a silly amount to bid UNLESS you want someone to just beat you with a bid of £400! My view is that the seller wanted to guarantee that he got £400, as it happens he achieved this and more so no need to continue bidding it up and risking not getting a sale by being the highest. Not that it matters I'm just passing comment so that less experienced bass playing/buying eBayers (what this section of the forum is directed at) can be aware of regular 'tricks'. Ultimately you bid what you want to bid and if you when, great but there are things to watch out for that can have you paying more than you need. Walk away from an auction being shill bidded and chances are it will come back again but the seller will be less inclined to bump things. I say this because I'm watching a bass that has followed the pattern of bidding that I outlined above and 'surprise surprise', it has been relisted for the third time due to 'non-paying bidders'. This time the bidding hasn't followed that pattern and the bids are staying remarkably low for the early stages of the auction (which they haven't done before). Time will tell if I am correct... and the bidding might still go daft at the end! Wish me luck.
 19.
Late to the thread, and it's often difficult to analyse auction bidding after the event, but I can't see the shill bidding on this one. By the time Bidder 11 slaps down his £389.99 there have already been 10 other bidders. Bidder 12 is presumably the £399.99 and the bid is that figure because eBay automatically adds £10 to the previous bid; Bidder 12 never actually placed a bid for that amount. The eventual winner gets into a small-scale final-seconds bidding war against Bidder 13 which takes the total to £436. Incidentally, I'm not a Fender fan and I don't much like sunburst finishes, but that is a truly beautiful bass. It may only say "Fender" in small letters on the headstock, but I reckon that's a pretty fair price.

I don't see anything wrong with this auction. The bass is a nice condition JV precision and the final price is in line with recent sales.
I have no disagreement with the seller or the final price, it is worth what it is worth. However it ALWAYS sets alarm bells off when you have a bidder (i.e. bidder 11) putting in a bid of £389.99... £389.99... who 'genuinely' puts in a bid of £389.99 if they truly want to win something? Nobody, "not ever" puts a bid in of £XX9.99 if they want to win; that is a bid set to ensure that your shill bid is just below what you genuinely want. I've seen it soooooo many times you wouldn't believe it and if you don't trump that bid it is equally amazing how many 2nd chance offers you get.
 20.
I laughed so much I wee'd a little...... http://cgi.ebay.com/ELECTRIC-BASS-GUITAR-P...p3286.m20.l1116
Phew glad you warned me that it wasn't a PRS otherwise I might have hit the BIN. Uncannily (nothing) like a PRS.
 21.
Maybe it's just me, but I think £436 for a Squier - even a JV - is a bit daft. But it looks nice.
So £685 for a Squier is VERY silly? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=005 I had one of these early large Fender small Squier logo basses when they first came out and it was very good. Whether it is worth more 'as a player's bass' than a USA bass of a similar age/quality is a different matter.
 22.
Yes. I think I'm going to use the same therapist Homer went to
Ah Ha! Got ya! This is a subversive way of getting us to go to GAS therapy and by any chance would you happen to know of a good therapist (who bungs you a tenner for every new referral)? No? Back to the drawing board.
 23.
You are a cynic John
So come on Chris; are your palms a bit sweaty, feeling restless, scalp a bit itchy, feeling a bit clammy around the collar? Going cold turkey like this must be hard on you mate!
 24. Hey I'm always a bit sceptical and prone to getting it wrong occasionally but a bidder putting £389.99 and another bidder @ £399.99 smacks of shill bidding to me! Let's be honest even the most inexperienced eBayer goes for the straight rounded up figure (£400), whereas the wise/experienced eBay goes a couple of quid and a few coppers over the top of the nearest rounded figure (£401.01 or similar). What do you reckon? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=320320053866
 25. Hats off to you Chris mate... I'm hooked! Whatever it is you are selling I'll have it marra, just name your price. Come on this must be the ultimate marketing ploy, right?
