So is it a coincidence that you and Homer went missing at the same time? ... oddly enough you come back within days of each other! -
As it doesn't happen very often, I thought I'd draw attention to the fact that I have absolutely nothing to sell, PX or trade at present Shall we take bets on how long it will be? Chris
Ooooh I'd say about as long as it takes someone to list a vintage(ish) P bass on BassChat. <edit> I take that back! About as long as it takes for someone to list a 70's P bass sans pup... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=32452

"Fender" P Special reliced with a power sander,
warwickhunt replied to OldGit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The fact that his feedback has him selling a flat-bed tipper wagon and a front end damaged car (which the listing has been subsequently removed for) has me thinking... no I couldn't possibly say what it has me thinking; especially as one of you lot is going to come on and say that you drive a tipper and sell motors that you've put back on the road. Another eBay sale to chalk up as possibly best avoided. -
Suspicious? .. 70's P (+ 43 other guitars/FX) ??
warwickhunt replied to eubassix's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That's a tricky one to call is that one! I agree that the user profile is such that I'd have my doubts but the pics do seem to tally with one location. If he were offering a single expensive guitar you'd have to be thinking 'If I can't collect I'm not bidding' and the fact that he has offered this option might well have people letting there guard down especially if they thinking they are getting a credit crunch bargain... 'IF' (big if) he is pulling a fast one I suppose he only has to ensnare one or two idiots who either pay by cheque or offer bank transfer and even if he has to dump on all those who want to collect then he's made a killing. The only genuine way of knowing pre auction end is if the guy allows someone like eubassix to try before they buy. Part of me thinks it may be straight but then I'm close enough that I'd be popping along to collect in person, if I lived the other end of the country I'd be erring on the side of caution and steering clear... shame that P bass wasn't sunburst! -
It's always tricky to pat yourself on the back (metaphorically and physically) but don't leave yourself out of the role call Bob. I'm glad to see a happy ending to the whole sorry affair!

Reuel's bass travel plan. (Shipping has now been paid for!)
warwickhunt replied to Shockwave's topic in General Discussion
Can someone put this at the top of the thread so that people who don't pay attention like me don't put money into a fund that is overflowing?
Surely by paying into a fund that already has enough to cover the costs shows a truly generous altruistic spirit! The excess funds will be used for charity or for a worthy cause I assume... or will the donations be refunded when Jake pays back what he owes? Actually as a vehement supporter of the intentions behind this saga I am slowly but surely saddened by 'certain' attitudes towards this episode. That is not meant as a slight on The Funk or toward those that have contributed (financially and in effort/time) to Reule getting his bass. -
Its very much appreciated and youve addressed my main concern as id never heard of them until the trade was offered. so would we say £1500 is asking too much for this?
Put it this way; I'll probably be putting a 'very well known' manufacturers 5 string up for sale in about a week, which cost a bit more new than the mbass and I'd 'probably' be lucky to get a quick sale at the £1500 that you are asking! Draw your own conclusions from that
hi, ive just been offered a mbass on a trade, but as i dont know much about them i dont know how good of a trade it is, does anyone know what there value is secondhand?
I know nothing about them but value is dead easy... what someone is prepared to pay. I'm not trying to be arsey but they are approx $3500 for a new 4 stringer so in the current climate you can slash 50% off that for it being used, even if it is basically 'new'. After that start praying that someone is looking for exactly what you have otherwise the price is going down from there. If you were talking about a well known, desirable manufacturer that has a proven track record of holding value then you could value it differently but mbass? Probably great basses but value is a fickle thing. Just my humble wotsit.

Reuel's bass travel plan. (Shipping has now been paid for!)
warwickhunt replied to Shockwave's topic in General Discussion
Due to the fact that others were better placed and situated to act swiftly I've taken quite a backseat on this episode of late but I've said this over on the Warwick forum and I'll air my views with regard to the latest feelings toward Jake... the main reason that I will do so now and didn't do a day or two ago is because the little tw*t no longer has Reule's property. This is not meant to be a vitriolic attack on those people who have moderate/conservative views towards Jake and his situation nor a call to lynch/stone Jake but PLEASE don't look at this through 'rose-tinted glasses', Jake was quite prepared to make himself a common thief/criminal... period! I've been in communication with Reule a fair bit on this episode both here and on the Warwick forum and for an individual to beg someone to drop a paypal claim, openly lie about sending the item, open new accounts to post on a thread that is about them in order to deflect the situation AND to go through systematically deleting old thread content in order that his location can be less easily established is pretty much indicative of BLATANT thievery! Do not kid yourself, without the fantastic efforts of ALL concerned on the various forums (and off-forum) Jake would be sitting cuddling this bass and wondering how best to continue avoiding Reule getting the bass or money back. I'm certain Jake is feeling sorry for himself but from his actions I can assure you Jake was fully cognoscente of his actions even though he may not have embarked on this deal with the sole intention of scamming Reule. This is drawing to a happy conclusion for Reule but it would appear that Jake will still walk away from this deal almost £150 better off than he could have imagined. The good nature and generosity of other people will be paying for the shipping NOT Jake and if he has managed to blow $3000 and have no collateral to show for it then I'm not going to dangle by my testes waiting for Jake to pay it back! ... just my thoughts as I sit here wishing Reule the best! -
Really nice to meet up and put names to faces (even briefly Al) with the opportunity to A/B stuff in a relaxed atmosphere. However Michael, you've failed to include the best/worst bit of footage all night... You know the point where you swapped speaker leads over, had an epiphany moment as to why there might be silence coming from the rig and your trousers instantly developed an unhealthy aroma. It was good craic and it's amazing how time flies and it isn't till afterwards that you suddenly think; 'Oh but I wanted to hear the PJB through the Scroeder cab' or Gah! How come I can't remember a decent lick or play anything remotely in time/tune when someone suddenly says "I'll tape this". Cheers one and all, hopefully a few more can have better fortunes and make the next one and a special thanks to Michael for his video skills.

I saw DW do a Trace demo in Gosforth, Newcastle many moons ago and I almost gave up bass! Loved learning/doing 'Loves Rears Up' with my band when it was a current single; not the hardest track in the world but as a band not used to that kind of style it took us a while to get the feel right.

I'm afraid that being so far North I'm out of the loop at this point ( ) but good luck (and good work) to those further South who can 'hopefully' now bring this to an end. I know that Bob has his side of things covered but as Reule knows I'm available to back that side of things up if need be. Fingers crossed for the next 24/48hrs. -

I thought tonight was a bass bash, not an ass bash!
Ah b*ll*cks... that's Friday night isn't it. Can folks remember to bring a guitar stand. There may be a few basses kicking about (not quite literally I hope) and I'd hate anyone to go resting one against a table or chair for it to slide horizontal.

I actually think the experience that Reuel had almost warrants being a sticky for the very reason that it would serve as a salutary warning to all but especially newbies. I don't think for one minute this should influence newbies from joining and/or selling but it should certainly highlight the need to be 'very' careful when conducting transactions even with established BCers. If anything I think the whole episode has made for a better forum. Complete strangers came to the aid of a complete unknown and are even now helping remedy this sad situation... Sorry this does need to come to an end at some point soon but I think that a lot of good will come from this.
It's just mineral oil, since when did mineral oil eat away wood? Would a company really market and sell a string life product that had any chance of damaging the wood on your guitar? And as for WD-40, tell me, do any of you actually know whats in it? You don't do you, and yet you're balking at using it on your guitar! It's mostly an oil emulsifying solvent which quickly evaparates and the rest is............mineral oil. The exact same mineral oil that's in your stick of fast fret. So why has it 'got no place on a guitar' ?
You beat me to it! I've found WD40 excellent for cleaning up gunky greasy fingerboards and I've used it on natural finish Warwick bodies many a time. It isn't my #1 choice of cleaning product, there are better products but I've got a tin on my workbench for loads of bass related jobs (great as a lubricant for polishing frets when used in conjunction with a fret masker). I've yet to have a bass fall apart on me or the wood crack/dry out and I've used WD40 on basses I've had for 16 years.
