2.
I've had this bass on eBay for a while now: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=220285541158 I expect many of you are already aware Peter
Who... me!
 3.
It does seem odd to have a forum called "ebay links" but for it to be somehow wrong to post ebay links in it. It is true that extra publicity could theroetically drive prices higher, but I don't see much evidence of that happening here. The Encore bass caused much discussion but seemingly not a single bid. I'd imagine that most basschatters in a buying mood would be watching ebay anyhow. And while it's true that one basschatter may already be bidding. But it could be anyone winning the auction. And therefore bringing it to the attention of people here would, on average, benefit the basschatter community more than be of detriment.
eBay links is the chance to discuss all things bass and eBay related, it isn't just about letting fellow BCers know about eBay bargains. Look honestly mate we aren't talking about your generic eBay auction for something that Tom, Dick or Harry has seen and wants (the Encore). What I am talking about is items that your general search doesn't bring up (listings with spelling mistakes in the title, wrong categories etc.) that have a fair chance 'if undiscovered by too many other people' of staying low or going virtually un-noticed. I'm not saying that no one else in the world will be aware of those listings but you've got less chance of being up against a hardened BC GASer than your normal eBay bass player. I have first hand knowledge and experience of this very thing happening and for those people who can't be ars*d to search vigorously for the bargains then the people who come on this section of the site and post all of the little gems it is a godsend! For me I think it is tantamount to stabbing a fellow BCer in the back to post anything other than the blatantly obvious or the BIN auctions. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some money grabbing killjoy. I've posted about BIN bargains on more than one occasion and there are several BCers who'd testify to the fact that I'm a pretty straight-up guy who'd help most people out but flagging up the potential bargains (for the stated reasons) does more harm than just letting them go. Ultimately it's up to the individual and there is no BC rule about what you can and can't flag up but do yourself a favour and consider how you'd feel if you were watching something with the genuine intention of buying and someone came on here advertising it to everyone On the other hand if your the kind of person that is never going to buy anything on eBay... Mums the word
 4.
Hello, this is my first post here. Would you believe, I BIN'd this very amp today, then later in the afternoon, registered on Basschat and saw this thread. What are the odds? I'm curious to hear how it sounds too. IMO, much of the colouration in amplified double bass comes from the pickup and speaker system, so a transparent amp, while desirable, isn't a cure-all. I was attracted to the clarus because of it's size and power, and DB specific features like the high Z inputs and notch/LP filter. It'll be used with an EA wizzy 10 cab. I'll let you know how I get on...
Spooky Welcome and be sure to tell us how it sounds.
 5. They've been trying to flog that for over a year now... I wonder if it ever dawned on them that people 'can' have more sense than money Looking at it from another angle, they get loads of people looking at their site to marvel at the 'big bass' so it is a pretty good advertising tool
 6.
The way I understand it is that the vintage guitar market is always appreciating along with other markets, when other markets are not doing so well, or falling into recession etc, the vintage market just plateaus and bubbles along until it starts to appreciate again! There's a reason why many people are putting their faith into vintage instruments as part of their retirement plans! Si
I'd agree with most of what you say Si but I'd add the caveat that there is nothing to say that the market for vintage instruments won't suddenly collapse. Buying a vintage instrument (or keeping one till it is vintage) is fine if you enjoy it (playing or looking at) but I'd personally not bank on an instrument or instruments paying for my pension. Just my opinion but I'm a bit old school in that respect.
 7. Have a read through this... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5572 You're not likely to find a 'cheap' option and if you are leaving the neck on and shipping in a case then don't be shocked with quotes of £90.
 8.
In a repost to Odub's post about falling prices, how are Fender prices holding up? Are semi vintage Fenders holding their price and bucking the trend?
Oddly enough semi-vintage or vintage Fenders have 'always' bucked the trend... so far
 9.
Likely as not it'll have been put away in a case whilst still sweaty and damp and then put into storage. Looking at the history I'd be surprised if it hasn't spent more than it's fair share of time in the back of a transit van day and night It's certainly been a working 'tool' and as such may well not have had the TLC that some people lavish on their pride and joy... that's not a criticism, just an observation. Still £2k+ is a lot of money for a potentially wrecked bass!
Ooops did I say £2k... just checked back and it's closer to £3k

 11.
If something's got a really cheap BIN it's fair game though? In that situation i'd rather someone off here bagged it, spread the love an all that!
Absolutely 100% behind you on that one and that's generally what happens. The frustration is when well meaning folk (who normally don't want to buy the item) flag up 'normal auctions' of stuff that they've spotted... problem is that you never know if someone else is already monitoring it.
 12.
£500 inclusive, or for the head on its own? How much for the head on its own, if you would consider selling it separately?? Cheers!! Best wishes, Matt
I could be wrong but at that price I'd assume the £500 is for the amp and bag... if it isn't and it's for the amp, bag and 2 cabs that's pretty cheap!
 13.
+1 on that A Bosendorfer that has been neglected would not bring more money than a new one, irrespective of who played it.... Why are basses different ? makes no sense to me either.
It's now up to £2050
 14. I noted that the buyer has been asked plenty questions but not one seems to be about the crack I decided to email and ask about it and to be fair to the seller, he has responded 'directly to me' but funnily enough hasn't listed my question and his response on the listing. If anyone is concerned about the crack then here is his response below and he has said there are pics available. Hi, Thanks for the message. It is a difficult one to judge without actually breaking away the finish. The finish is very thick. I have gently probed it with a pin, and it doesn't feel as if it goes in any further that the finish, but the general cracking of the finish is likely due to wood shrinkage, so if there is a crack in the wood it may not be as open as it is in the finish. With the neck and scratchplate removed, the crack in the finish runs around the neck joint and almost down to the pickup recess. If you send me an email address I can send you some pictures. Sorry for the waffly answer, but I cant really give a definite yes or no.
 15.
Why would people get upset if someone posts an ebay link? Returning to the amp, this is just vague curiosity, but I note the following. Does it actually achieve this aim?
Point 1 - Imagine you've spotted something tasty on ebay, ideally something that has been listed in an incorrect category or with a misspelling in the title that won't show up in a search (ie instead of Fender - Gender etc), you are watching it with the intention of sniping a bid at the last minute and picking up a bargain. Lo-and-behold someone on this forum comes on shouting about this 'potential bargain'... you aren't going to particularly impressed now that the bass playing community know about it and no doubt a few people will take a punt on it, thereby bumping the price. Flagging a normal auction 'bargain' that you've spotted is NOT particularly conducive to getting a bargain Point 2 - They are meant to be quite uncoloured (odd that they are described as 'warm' then ) and they are certainly small, light and portable. WoT used the big brother of one of these with various preamp pedals and it sounded pretty good to me.
 16.
Acoustic Image Clarus 1R on the Bay for £200 looks pretty good value to me. Not mine I don't normally post eBay links as some get upset if they are already watching it - however as this has a BIN of £200, I think anyone interested would have grabbed it already (starting bid is £175) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Acoustic-Image-Claru...id=p3286.c0.m14
I totally agree. I only flag up BIN unless it's something silly that needs looking at or if I have relevant info that might save a fellow BCer buying unwisely.
 17.
Gone over the BIN price good luck to him
It went way over my bid
 18. Well done Ben, looked the biz before but now you've put some time into it, it looks even better
 19. You really have no idea how close you were to not getting that bass If it hadn't been for the fact that I was pretty busy last Sunday and my time was really limited, I had already arranged to meet to buy the bass in Edinburgh. Unfortunately I may have overstepped the mark with the seller as I asked if he'd mind meeting me on the SE side of Edinburgh and I'd bung him a fiver 'or' if he fancied meeting closer to me I'd cover his fuel. I think he took it the wrong way and rather than realising I was simply pushed for time he thought I was asking for a personal delivery service and he decided he didn't have time to even meet me in Edinburgh... Ah well It actually looks far better in your pics than it did in the ones that he took for me. Had he shown it in it's full glory as you have, I may well have tried that bit harder to find time to collect from him. Enjoy it sounds like a cracker
 20.
Here's my review, please bear in mind I only play reggae, I am very fussy about tone and this is only my opinion - It's very loud, basically 2 x 500 watt amps that can be bridged to 750 watts @ 8 ohms or 1100 @ 4 ohms. That's a lot of power and if you don't need it, the LH 500 will still have plenty of oomph with 350 watts @ 8 ohms. Build quality seems good, everything works as expected, it is very heavy compared to a lot of new amps. The sound is very rich and full bodied with a valvey growl, but clear and modern with no distortion. It is surprisingly hi fi sounding to my ears with plenty of tone from deep bass to high treble if required. There is no need to touch the eq for a sound which I imagine would suit many players with varied styles. I have only used it at home, but get the feeling it would really cut through on stage with a strong presence - the sort of amp you could fall in love with. Having said all that, I have returned it to the shop, who kindly let me have it on 7 day approval. While I'm sure it would suit many players, it didn't have 'my' sound which is super smooth, deep, warm and soft just like me. I really wanted to love the LH1000 and in a way I do, it's just got too much tone for me - ah well........
Just to help inform the masses... what bass and cabs did you use it with?
 21.
Now that my back has gone (again) I have decided it's time to get a lighter rig. Can anyone tell me how a 2x10 compares to a 1x15 tone wise etc? I am looking to get something around 200w and 20kg or less.
TBH there are plenty of 2x10s out there that will give you as much bottom end as many 1x15s. I've never understood the fixation (for want of a better word) with using 15s to get 'more' bottom end. Unless you are talking specially designed 15s (a la Mr Clabber) or folded horns, 10s can go as low as 15s (in the real world, not manufacturers statements) and transient response is 'generally' better. I'd go for a good 2x10 over a 15 any day... saying that I'm using 1x12s as a compromise to 2x10s flick back through the thread there are plenty discussed.
I was wondering what would best replace the current setup: Custom JB going into Pod X3 Live (no amp modeling used) going into Trace Elliot GP7 150 with an Ashdown Mag410T Im happy with the trace but the Ashdown is a backbreaker. I need something lighter, and not necessarily 4x10". I would ideally like something about the same size but lighter or just a bit smaller but maintaining balls. I'm playing Queens of the Stoneage like music.
There are LOADS of alternatives and you'll get the full range of advice from the Tech 4x10 through Epifani 3x10 via EBS 2x12 and no doubt Markbass, Zoot, Aguilar, Warwick, Genz Benz and a shedload of others will be mentioned No disrespect but I think pretty much anything mentioned in this thread so far would trump your Ashdown Mag for weight and tone BUT your 'tone' is very specific to you and what I consider good tone could be very different to anyone else! <edit for link> In the sale section... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=28012 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=27959 These would more than suit either of your needs!
 22.
I thought I'd struggle to sell my 18-year old Thumb bass considering the current climate but I did - and for £1000 (via The Gallery) which after their 15% comission was actually what I was hoping for £850... good quality instruments are a good investment me thinks. M
I've got a similarly aged Thumb and I'd be seriously tempted to sell through a shop if I could achieve that price but 360 miles makes a big difference
 23.
Aha, one of the 19 explained! If you catch your mate, I will throw in the silver OHSC from my 4003MG/BT (newly de-tobacco'ed and in great nick) on top, all for the princely sum of £899 (case wan't included on the eBay auction and is worth >£100) Cheers mate. PS, do you do stints as a Dave Grohl impersonator (based on Avatar)?
I'm still trying to contact him and if your Ric floats his boat then we'll see what we can do. re. the avatar pic - one more comment on BC and I will be considering contacting a 'lookeelikee' agency for work... of course I've now shaved so that'd have to grow back
