1. I've never understood the need for them (my main Warwick doesn't have them) but aesthetically I prefer the ones that cross-over...
2. I had the Glock Bassart head and the tone was stunning! I loved it to bits but in a full on ROCK band setting it ran out of steam a little (300w @ 4ohms) but I am talking loud band with limited PA support. 'If' the Heartrock has the same preamp and tone you'd not lack tone and the power section is significantly upgraded from the Bassart. However you are talking mega bucks compared to the head that you have at the moment, so you'd expect improvements in tone There are a lot of amps available when you get into this price bracket it isn't a case of one amp being better than another... they will just be different tones. I seriously can't see you being disappointed in the sound if you went for the Glock but be prepared to start thinking about the next weakest link in your tonal chain
3.
I've noticed that Spector basses are quite often spoken about in glowing terms. Is this one of the good ones? If so, this auction, finishing in four hours something, could be at bargain levels. Or, are there good Spectors and bad spectors. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spector-Performer-4-...id=p3286.c0.m14 Not that I'm in a buying mood, but I like to learn more about "the market". Aside: I thought I spotted a real bargan for a minute. Then remembered, it's "Lakland", not "Lakwood" Edit: Not as expensive as I thought, http://www.turnkey.co.uk/product/spector-p...ass-slate-grey/ Basswood body, usually the sign of a not-too-expensive bass. Sure is purty though.
I don't think that it's so much good and bad Spectors but they do range from entry level £250 instruments up to the £9000 Custom jobbies. You've done the best thing which is to visit a large retailer on-line, establish which model it is and then gauge that against the price it's being offered at. Don't be put off by the basswood body, one man's meat and all of that! Also don't think that just because something has a (cheaper to produce) BO neck that they are a 'worse' bass than a NT, it's down to personal preference.

5.
Well...after alot of reading and listening... I bought one.... I am now the proud owner of a 44-02 Deluxe in Sunburst. Just need to find some time to play now!!! Thanks for the responses guys....
You should know the rule... no-one can claim to own a bass until we've seen the photographic evidence
6. Without wishing to drag anything up publicly (ie PM me please) I never did quite figure why Chris upped sticks and left BC. I had plenty of dealings and banter with him and he seemed pretty levelheaded...?
7. A very reasonable and detailed listing with enough info to be informative etc but fails to mention that in pic 4 of the neck plate (which might have been off once or twice in its life ) there seems to be an unhealthy crack which looks a bit more than just lacquer crazing http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1964-FENDER-PRECISIO...1QQcmdZViewItem
8. Almost exactly £1000 got me this... However, £1000 spent used can get you 300watts of valves and loads of weight or it can get you nigh on 1000watts of digital lightness or pretty much anything in between
9.
Would you buy anything from a man that looks like this: I rest my case. This Public Information Service has been brought to you by the anonymous, playful, Basschat autumn sprite
You do realise that if I go into Photobucket and edited that image and insert a pic of Jonny Depp I'd make you look a right t*t... Nah you do a good enough job as it is Anyway 'Autumn Sprite' what happened to your alter ego the 'Summer Heffalump'
10. I have an overwhelming desire to start liking EB/MM basses when I look at that bass... but I just know it wouldn't work for me Tis indeed tasty though.
11.
You mean, build a box to visually match the standard head, and fit whatever driver you can get the best deal on? Surely not!
I did not imply nor intimate that a manufacturer might make a box that might by chance accommodate the dimensions of the industry standard width for rack mounted equipment. Nor that said 'box' might be pretty much the same depth as every other box available regardless of the science of acoustics. Heaven forbid that said box might be less designed to get the best from the selected driver, thereby giving the musician the best tone for given criteria, and might in fact simply be a more cost effective use of materials used by that manufacturer.
12.
This is a great deal, someone needs to buy this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spector-Euro-LX-EX-B...id=p3286.c0.m14
Haven't the ex-SC/Reverb basses identical to this just been sold off at exactly this price... or was it a different range?
13. The cabs that I had were EBS and Tech Soundsystems. I believe the Tech cabs were fitted with various drivers over a period of time and were equipped with B&C and or Ciare drivers. I'm not saying that any of the Neo cabs that I've had are bad, far from it, but they have (whether by design or driver) been mid biased. If real world experiences are showing that people feel that Neo equipped cabs have been mid biased I'd be inclined to think that manufacturers may well just be sticking neo drivers into cabs that were modelled and made to accommodate standard non-neo drivers... would that be an awful and wholly wrong assumption to make
14.
Having had extended fiddlettes on a couple of 4 string Warwick Streamers I ordered a new Streamer 5. Call me Mr Silly but I figured it would be similar !!! It was my first 5 and I bloody hated it. Big , clumpy left hand full , string spacing from Satan's trick bag. Bah !! Plus , to my ears , it sounded like....nothing. Just nothing. I haven't come here just to knock Warwicks , more of a warning to not go 100% by your experiences with a Streamer 4 if you have any.
Totally valid point and goes for just about any bass.
15. I've always considered that the Neo equipped cabs that I have owned (5 cabs in total) have a 'perceived' increase in mid-range. However, I have accepted that a lot of guys on here know more about the testing and measuring of these things than I do and if theoretically identical neo and non-neo drivers with 'identical spec' (and that's the tricky part) are placed in the same cab the only difference should be weight. As I highlighted the tricky part is that it'd be almost impossible to get a like for like neo and non-neo driver to do this comparison. I'm gagging to drop a neo 12" driver in my Aggie DB112 just to find out what the difference sounds like but finding that elusive identical spec driver would be almost impossible without loads of research and wedges of money... unless someone in the NE has a Neo 12 and wants to try
16. Off the top of my head, Eubassix is your man for Marleaux info. Might be worth a quick PM to point him at your thread!
17. Most people think that Warwick basses have passive pups because you have a push pull pot to go between active and passive; in fact 'most' (the $$ and one or two others are an exception) Warwick basses need a battery as the pups themselves have a preamp built in that needs juice. Try taking the battery completely out of your bass then see if it works rather than just switching between active / passive. I have a set of Wizard pups fitted in a Warwick, these are truly passive and are connected to an MEC preamp giving active EQ.
18.
my Strat is a 20 year old (japanese) Tokai in tobacco sunburst with active electronics. I'm happy to trade but dont want another bass with a chubby neck as I have smallish hands. I was going to buy a Squier VMJ with the Ebay proceeds from the Strat for this reason. Anyone have an opinion on the Warwick neck dimensions? Other minor issue is the swapper lives in Essex and I only go there occasionally but thats not insoluble.
They vary from range to range! However I would say that quite a few of the BO cheaper ranges can have chunky necks and none but the earliest NT Warwicks are slim (I have an 87 Thumb with a neck that would rival any skinny Jazz and I've owned Streamers from the mid 80's that were likewise). Don't assume that a chunky neck + smallish hands = difficult to play. Sometimes it's the profile of the neck and/or width that affects how playable a neck is. re. value - It'd be really helpful to have a confirmed model for your prospective purchase or better still a pic.
19.
Are you suggesting that I somehow resemble a dead cow suspended in formaldehyde? (actually, given recent events, you wouldn't be far wrong ) Mwah xxx
A pickled cow might have crossed my mind
20. There's an almost identical one for trade on the Forum. Amazing how many of the ex-SC/Reverb stock has turned up/will turn up for sale
21. It's been that long since you've ridiculed me Mrs. T that I thought you'd been sold accidentally as a Damien Hirst piece... sits back and waits for her to figure that one out
22. £400 - £500 ya reckon... hmmm I have a feeling that bidder 2 will push it up past that if there are other bids
23.
Saw Metallica on Jools Holland last night. Did anyone notice that he was using a Tobias 5-string? Or were my eyes deceiving me?
Wasn't taking 'that' much notice as I was struggling to hear that much definition in his tone... probably my AV system not coping well with the Metallica sound
24. I'm sure it's actually in the T&C of joining Basschat that you will at some point purchase or sell a minimum of 2 items to another Chatter Don't even get me started on what I've owned on here (unlikely to ever rival one or two individuals ) or what was mine and now owned by others but I'd sooner strike up a deal with someone on here than a faceless entity on eBay. I'm not saying that it is risk free but those that drop in to try a quick scam can very quickly be 'outed' so long as you keep your wits about you.
25.
Do you mean a trade for another bass worth £600 - £700 plus cash?
Surely not the Roscoe already
