1. Just got an OBP1 to drop into my Streamer fretless (it has 3 band MEC which I can't get on with... I'm a less is more guy ) and it appears to be an older version as it is wider and flatter than the present OBP1 displayed on the Aguilar site. My question is - can this seemingly older version be run at 18v as the present version can? I've been on the Aggie site to no avail and I can't even find a bliddy link to send them an email! Cheers.
2.
Both wrong. I still have it and it's Pacific Blue Burst. When bought it had been fitted with a Bartolini and a Aguiller OBP3. Didn't like the sound of the Bart so I tried an SD which was too aggresive, then I got the Nordstrand. After 4 years I finally located an original SR5 ceramic and original pre-amp but didn't like the sound so the Nordy went back in again which is how it is now. Status neck was fitted late 2004 and has done hundreds of gigs. Punchy, loads of sustain, always stays in tune and is a joy to play.
Sorry if this is going slightly off topic but a question for OBBM if I may! The OBP3... it is 3 band but do you know if it can be installed into a bass as a 2 band and the wires that are meant to go to the mid pot just be blanked off and left internal (I'm a simple guy and less is more for me)?
3. I always have room for another Wick! Eleventy twelve pence do? I wouldn't rush to do anything, you might get the 7 [s]year [/s] mth itch and want to swap back. If in a years time you still have that lust for an inferior bass to your Warwick then you should maybe think about selling.
4. Have you considered just upping your 9v to 18v? I'm 99% certain that the MEC preamps can be run at 18v with no modification required, other than you installing another battery (connected the correct way ) into your control cavity. I have one fitted into my Streamer with no issues and the extra battery fitted quite easily. I'm not saying this will suddenly give you a massive jump in output but it will increase the headroom and might be just what the doctor ordered. For the cost of a 9v battery and a clip with 2 wires its got to be worth looking into surely?
5. I bought 3 sets from eBay for something stupid like £11 and for the price they can't be knocked. They are 'probably' never going to rival DR strings for pure tone in a recording situation etc but it'd be an idiot that could claim that DR strings were ten times better than the Hartke ones if stuck on a cheap/mid priced bass used for playing down the local.
6. I agree with Dood. If you like the tone of your present amp then purchase a power amp and run it into another (4 ohm) cab for max potential. Just out of interest does your amp deliver its full power into the internal speaker or is that an 8ohm 15" speaker and you have an extension speaker socket (pdf manual doesn't give much away) for connecting another speaker?
7. I've owned 2 Sterlings and 1 Ray and I have to confess I'd have a Sterling over a Ray any day! The Ray has a midge's kn*cker more ooomph when standard (I owned Lee's Nordstrand pup equipped Sterling and that has all of the balls of a ray) but the downsized body, S/P switching and gorgeous neck make the Sterling a better bass IMHO
8.
Item has been relisted And in response to "can I call for the bass and pay cash when it arrives" "unfortunately not as the one in the pic is mine, once i recieve your payment via paypal i then order yours from my supplier in the us which accounts for the 14-21 days delivery! but you can pick it up once it is here but your payment must be paid first within 3 days after auction ends" regards louise louise - lite_bite_catering76 I contacted ebay live security chat to get passed from pillar to post and eventually was sent back to the "email us" link which can take 24-48 hours. Obviously ebay don't give a sh*t about individuals accounts. Anyone got the balls to log into this users account and change the password to stop this abuse..... No wonder people are dubious about using ebay..
I did the same as you and once I realised that I was being allowed access to his account I logged back out... I also considered changing the password as (like you I imagine) it was the first thing the log-on page suggested!
9.
It's basically got a few revisions.... new Celestion NEOs, which sound far closer to ceramic drivers than the Eminence NEOs he used to use, and a new, smoother tweeter. Going from an 'old' 21012L to a 3G 410L, I can definitely hear those improvements.
Ah ha, I see. About time then that I heard this 4x10 without your noisy band spoiling the bass tone
10. I've no doubt you are going to get a dozen responses with suggestions based upon each persons present cab but I think you'll be hard pushed to beat the Schroeder for a standalone cab. The projection that it seems to have (probably attributed to the mid hump) means that it'll never be swamped by a pair of guitars. Physically sized against the other cabs I doubt there is a 'single solution' cab that'll beat it... the 1212 manages to fit a pair of 12s in the same size cab as most manufacturers single 12s. I will state that this advice is based upon the 2 Schroeders that I have heard (and A/Bed against other cabs) which were the 2x10 +12 versions. To qualify my advice I'd also add that I recently had the same dilemma and went through a bunch of changes, including using; EBS 2x12 neos, Tech Soundsystem 2x10/1x15 and 6x10 neos before settling on a a pair of Aggie DB 1x12s... How's that for 'my' solution to a 1 cab problem <edit> for typo
11. Forgive my laziness and ignorance but how does the new '3G' differ from a normal Schroeder light?
12. Alternatively turn it on its head and ask the guitarist(s) to come up with a different guitar part to go with 'your' bassline (even if the riff/lick came first and constitutes the whole song)
13. Even if out of warranty (not sure what that entails on a Status) I'd be contacting them to see if they can remedy at cost! The nature of the cracks (for it looks like 2 separate ones) seems to be because of the screws inserted into the tuner retainers either over tightened or no guidehole/tap prior to inserting the screw? Whatever it is it looks like a wood/factory fault rather than a knock/abuse by the owner, especially in light of someone else having the same fault.
14. Something like this... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18931 You could PM the 2 owners of this combo and get an idea of its qualities!
15. You seem to be getting an awful lot of 'guidance' from the band/guitarist... my response to them by now would be close to being expressed in 2 short words If you have more patience than me and you are going to co-operate then you could consider playing basslines that descent in the key you are playing in whilst the guitar riff/line ascends (or vice-versa). I really have no idea of the level of your skill/competence so I'll shut up and see if that makes sense to you
16. Peavey did a 1U power amp range called the DPC (digital power converter) which came in 2 sizes 700w & 1400w (may be a bit out on the smaller one). They have the usual Peavey ruggedness/reliability and are cheap enough, if you can find one.
17. £100 That is obscene! I've never liked the look of the re-issue ones but I must confess an 'orange' one if cheap enough might have tempted me
18. I've always had a hankering to try one of these (that is the one with the very elongated horns and tiny headstock...) ever since seeing one reviewed in BassPlayer back in the 90's. I've never seen one up for sale in the whole interim period and I do look regularly!
19.
did you ever find your natural Streamer stage 1?
I got a natural Stage I fretless My GAS for a Stage I fretted natural was assuaged by my getting back a red Stage I bass that I owned over 15 years ago... it isn't any better than bluey, I just got it back for nostalgia's sake!
20.
I'm in pain from laughing to hard

He's my new hero, in so many ways.
I hoped one or two might appreciate that!
21. I've linked this to another thread but you might get some ideas here Michael http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vi1aYLAZ7ho
22. This guy just goes to show looks aren't everything http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vi1aYLAZ7ho
23. I posted on here a while back about a new guitar manufacturer (http://www.krozka-sharpe.com/) who wanted some feedback on the potential of building a range of basses. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4244&hl=krozka Well it appears the Credit Crunch has hit hard! I popped in to see them from time to time and had some good craic with them but I was aware there was an under-current of things not going well. Earlier this year they were on a high as they had secured a large retail outlet for their guitars... unfortunately that point of sale was 'SOUNDCONTROL'. SC's demise put a big hole in their plans as they had invested a lot of time and money securing the deal. To cut a long story short, I called around there today it was locked up and the guy in the next unit said they had gone under Bit of a p*sser as they were nice guys and trying to do something for British guitar building. Wherever they are and whatever they are doing I wish them luck.
