1. I have/use a BOSS BR532 that is about as easy to use as any old analogue 4 track tape recorder. I probably use 1/100th of its potential as I never use the cutting/pasting/editing features, I don't bounce down, never touched the built in effects and BOSS drum machine etc etc. It's digital so there is no untoward noise (unless you input a noisy signal) and as a simple recording tool it's a doddle. Probably cheap as chips to buy now. Downside is you can't burn to disc easily, so you have to transfer files to a PC... probably easier recording straight to your hard-drive! Depends what you are after I suppose
 2. At least you're getting some warning! Martin our old singer used to think nothing of randomly introducing the band during whatever song he fancied and you're left with about 20 seconds warning that you need to come up with something. Fine in a funky number or something with a bit of pacey groove to it but when it's Robbie William's 'Angels' or Bill Wither's 'Ain't no sunshine'... I became expert at playing the first 4 bars of the theme tune to The Simpsons in every key and at every tempo But in answer to your original plea - I'd humble explain that what the audience 'really' wants to hear is the plaintiff tones of the guitarists fantastic instrument or the dulcet tones of the singer's lilting voice (lay it on thick with lashings of buttery platitudes) and not the boink plonk dong of the bass You'll do OK mate!
 3. This is a rare 2007 Fender Jazz Bass, 60's re issue, in mint condition. Full spec can be found on Fender web site. Recommended retail price is £729.00. This is not your standard Jazz Bass! The neck is slimline. The pick ups are not standard. The finish is of the highest quality. Most of all, the sound is worlds apart from standard Jazz Bass, the sound quality is better than any US Fender I have played previously. Includes Fender gig bag and all documentation and warranty card. Delivery details to be arranged. Collection is an option. A few points if you please rare - How so? Recommended retail price is £729.00 - Are you sure? I thought Mexican Jazzes were about £350... you aren't trying to insinuate that it is a USA bass! not your standard Jazz Bass - Why... have you altered it? If not then it is; if you have then say so! The neck is slimline - Aren't they all! not standard (pick-ups) - Again, how so! Have you changed them? If not they are standard. worlds apart from standard Jazz Bass - How so? It is a standard Jazz bass isn't it! better than any US Fender I have played previously - Ah... you've tried lots then have you and again is that an insinuation this is a USA bass? Not saying it's a bad bass or a bad starting price but he/she's been a bit liberal in his/her description. There are clear photos of the MZ serial number but no direct reference to it being Mex and a few indirect references to USA pricing and basses! 4.
You must be alot smaller than me then John The neck was never a problem on mine, just the fact it was a BO.
I just have short arms... goes well with my deep pockets to avoid getting rounds in
 5.
I swear my left arm's longer than my right from the 17 years I've had mine!
as said by a true Thumb owner!
 6.
Ummm with the PMs I've had I think your predictions were true. Thanks again. N
It might be worth considering that you were potentially going to sell that via eBay for £150 MINUS your eBay & PayPal fees £225 might be a better deal than your original price but I would say that you need to be realistic with some of the offers you get in light of what you could have ended up with... it's your item and your call though. Good luck.
 7. EVERY month! Do you leave them plugged in permanently? I realise that the LEDs may well eat batteries but surely the preamps don't. I give my basses a new 9volter each Xmas and I've never had one die on me. However, I can appreciate that for peace of mind; as often as you can afford makes sense.
 8. Probably the right decision for you but I hope a fellow BCer wasn't looking to snipe that on eBay otherwise my advice to you just shot them in the foot
 9. Should have done this feedback months ago Lee and I did a deal involving me getting back the first Warwick I ever bought and him getting a very tasty Sterling. A pleasure to deal with and great communication. Cheers mate!
 10. That SSII looks a cracker. BTW the preamp is the 3 band MEC unit (I have one fitted in a fretless Wick)
 11.
Hang abooooot, I thought you and Thumbs couldn't get on?
I can't stand Warwick Thumbs. I dislike them so much I think this is my 8th In all seriousness I love how they look and sound but I wouldn't gig one because of the first fret position being in another time zone from the body
 12. You can get Ric 5 strings, not sure about the exact models! I'm sure a Ric expert would be able to help authenticate that particular model.
 13.
mindblowing. that '88 SSII is gorgeous. which one is your favourite and which one do you play the most?
Oddly enough I sold my favourite a short while back! Of the ones that I have I can safely say that they all get a fair share of playing 'now'... I say 'now' as I had a period recently where I realised I had basses that didn't get played from one year to the next. If you pin me down to one bass it would be my old Infinette or maybe... The SSII. No! it would be the red SSI Definitely NOT the Thumb
 14.
Awesome, it's all changed! What happened to that blue SSI? Did you sell it or keep it? I loved the look of that thing.
The blue SSI went to a fellow BCer; LukeFRC
Is the extent of your collection, or do you have more 'wicks lurking around the house? I only ask because from reading some of your other posts on the subject of Warwicks, I got the impression that you were literally swimming in them.
I have 2 more in the house (3 if you inc' the Dolphin that is packed and ready for shipping to Canada) but I have owned a 'lot' of different Warwicks over the years. A useless piece of info but off the top of my head there are 7 of my old basses residing with BC members and a guy in my home town shocked me the other day when we established that he has bought from me (and kept) 4 of my past instruments I may be the worst 'Wick-head' on this forum but I'm by no means top of the list if you include any type of bass
 15. Correct... an '88. They are (from L to R) 87 JD Thumb, 88 Stage II, 90 Ltd Ed, 90 Stage I Fretless, 90 Stage I
 16. A Demeter pre has always been top of my 'to try' list, much jealous of your bit of kit Do you have to fiddle with the EQ much and do you find the parametric useful?
 17. Time for an update. Same wall but just over a year later
 18.
Just 4 days left on Ebay! Can't belive this is still for sale. You are getting an equivalent Fender custom shop quality part here for a very low price! All the the necessary nut work and profiling is done by the luthier. All you would do is bolt it on a body!!
You might find that someone is sitting back hoping to score it for £150 rather than the BC offer of £250! Incidentally... (and this is just offered as advice Nick) if you have it on ebay for a BIN of £250 why not offer it on here at £250 minus the ebay and potential PayPal fees? I'm not angling to score this for myself (no 'W' on the headstock ) it's just my insight
 19. There's vintage and there's Vintage! There are a whole load of basses out there that are the same age as your Vintage Jazzes etc but they aren't worth a fraction of the price. What's an old Gibson Ripper worth compared to a similar aged Fender J or P... 1/2 the price? A 1/10th of the price more like, yet they are both vintage instruments and there'll be a whole lot more Fenders out there than Gibsons (I'm using Gibbo as a point of reference as it's as highly regarded and well known). Ultimately it will come down to Desirability x Availability. Didn't someone on a thread a while back come up with an equation for identifying the parameters for what will constitute expensive 'Vintage' basses of the future?
 20. I had Laney gear years ago (150 & 300watt heads that 'mimicked' Trace gear) and they were ultra reliable. I'd like to think that the shop may well have a problem with their speaker leads rather than both amps be faulty!
 21.
The Sandbergs look very nice. I'm quite tempted to order a Fretless California PM...
Hmmm... P pup at the neck Twin J at the bridge... would that be a fretless in sunburst... aged/relic'd maybe! Sounds like an 'new' old version of a bass that is sadly missed
 22.
Warwickhunt, what bass is that? Looks like an aguilar preamp, and from the looks of the wood and cavity, the bass looks like a $$ NT, but the pot alignment looks weird! Just curious
Well BSR... It's officially a Streamer Corvette ('91) but they are often referred to as Infinettes as they preceded the Infinity range by a few years. They were a Ltd Ed of between 120 and 200 (depending on what you read/hear). The preamp is actually an MEC unit and the pots as you see are dual concentrics with push/pull switching options for coil tapping the rear pup and for active/passive.
 23.
Cheers, Warwickhunt. I hadn't thought about the angle of the strings. As it happens, one of things I'm really impressed with on the Sandberg is the even-ness of the volume and tone accross the fretboard. I suppose that comes from a decent overall set up. It's better than my Jass, where I tend to get excessive bass from the A and E strings (not always a bad thing I know!) I think the Jazz might benefit from some adjustments.... BTW - Is it you who hates exposed pole pieces? I read that from someone on here recently LOL Steve
I don't think I've ever expressed open 'hatred' for exposed pole pieces However, saying that I don't particularly like them! The 2 Sterlings and numerous Jazzes etc (though some with particularly sharp edges are worse than others) that I have owned had ExPP and I found that my playing style meant that my fingers were striking the polepieces when I started to really play hard. Part of that is my preference to have the pups as close up to the strings as is possible!
 24. re. the G-string run out. I don't think its a dodgy route more likely the pups are mass produced units, branded/stamped for Sandberg and they would thus have not taken account of specific spacing of strings running in toward the nut on different models. Likely as not front and back pup are exactly the same unit and it would be too much trouble to make one with slightly different spacing for neck position. You'd be amazed how many manufacturers that produce exposed polepieces don't bother accommodating this... stand up and take a bow Fender If it sounds OK (and they normally do) as is, I wouldn't worry. Nice bass btw and congrats on the promotion
