As an odd twist... A colleague at work was in a relationship with the lead singer! I missed the programme (as did she; she had no idea that they were on) does anyone know if it is on any form of freeview/iPlayer/youtube?

If you intend keeping the strings to possibly refit at a later date (which is quite valid if they are fairly fresh) then give them a good wipe with some form of string cleaner (at a push use a cloth sprayed with WD40), this will take any sweat/skin/crud off and then put them in some kind of packaging (a paper bag, the kind you've probably just thrown away that your strings came in would be good ). If you don't clean them you 'may' well find they are a bit cruddy next time you get them out (depending on your sweat and how how much use they got).

Jamie[/quote] I've got a 2 pup Wal (birds eye maple top and back) on appro at the moment and I have to say that it is quite 'parpy'... don't you just love the way we describe what we hear I wouldn't say it was as grunty or growly as my Warwicks it has a different tone to anything I've ever had before (I had a Wal many years back and it sounded exactly the same even though my first was a shaduka top). Even though the push pull pots change the tone (love playing wah/wah with the tone controls ) it is still inherently mid biased and the core tone of the bass alters what I play and how. Sorry it's not been much use but my experience has been that a Wal has a very individual tone and I can't coax a Fender sound out of it if I try.

We once got booked to do a Steel-yard/Ship-builders end of contract gig... turned out to be the shed/aircraft hangar that they build ships in The scaffolders had erected a 'kin huge stage at one end and the (free) bar was at the other. What an experience to forget... lord please let me forget It was easily the size of a football pitch and then some. They'd booked some PA company to do the sound, unfortunately they underestimated the power required to make a good job. Best proper real stage was the Mayfair @ Newcastle. The smallest stage - far too many to even consider picking the smallest!

The manager seems a bit of a pr*ck IMHO! Wonder if the tenner would have gone through the till As you say, he isn't offering you a brand new piece of packaging specifically ordered in for you to ship your bass in. They no doubt have to pay to have the cardboard taken away so you are doing them a favour. I have to confess that my local Sound Control (RIP) happily sorted me a box out, to the point that they went out to the bins to retrieve the best one. Soundslive also supplied me with a heavy duty box in order that I could ship a bass Internationally, I did buy a case from them but that was neither here nor there as I'd already asked if they had a box I could have.

Unfortunately there is no replacement for displacement so you are 'never' going to get the kick that a big multiple driver cab can give without... loads of drivers It's always going to be a compromise and though I'd dearly have loved to get a couple decent sized 2x10s as my gigging backline, I've settled on a pair of Aggie 1x12s which, though they'll never give me the trouser flap of my 6x10 they give me sufficient ooomph to be a standalone rig when not using PA support. They have sufficient volume to give enough bottom end without being overly large to transport. You probably already know the number of quality cabs that are available and I've no doubt everyone will have a different suggestion. The Aggies combined with my Thunderfunk give me a full sounding punchy tone but they aren't the cleanest neutral sounding cabs in the world but then I've come to realise that a neutral transparent tone isn't what I want

Most wood care products work for caring for your 'W' bass. I've used various producats and it's a case of trial and error to get the one that feels/smells right for you Just out of interest the bass is natural and not sealed... if the latter waxing is not necessary (other than a bit of oiling/waxing of the neck/fingerboard 'should' it need it).
