It'll be great to see you on Sunday if you can make it, WH! I'll be using the Walkabout Scout for that though, probably....
Yes I suppose it would be overkill in a venue that size... I'm not coming then Just joshing Going to see the Gangsters of Ska tonight, gigging in Blyth tomorrow and your gig Sunday, busy weekend! -

The aesthetics look like they fit right in with what you do. Looking forward to hear this in a gigging situation (hopefully on Sunday) but I'd love to A/B it alongside your other cab -

I agree with the tone of the Neo's changing over time (running in) but it could equally just be that your ears get used to how the new cab sounds. Impressive delivery times! Did the taxes get sorted easily and were they the usual percentage? -
As has been stated the letter prefix gives you the month (the letter 'i' is not used) and the last 2 digits give you the year. Early model Warwicks (pre 91/92) have the number on the top of the headstock, after that period they are on the rear of the headstock between the machineheads. If the bass has a painted or heavy lacquered finish it can be difficult to identify. Very early basses (82/83) just had a 3 digit number but these are easily identified by the Spector headstock shape and non-angled tuners.

If you get the chance to try a Glock amp do so (I'm referring to the Bass Art but I think the range in general are similar). It has the warmth of a TF but has all the clarity you could want in a band mix. The only limitations that I found with the Glock was that the EQ was very musical and couldn't do extreme which I can get on the TF. I only require the TF EQ as I'm likely to be running a fretted/fretless and EUB through the same rig on any given night.
Just bought an EHX Memory Man with Hazarai and it is amazing. It can do awesome delays with looping at the same time.
OK it has to be asked... what is Hazarai?
Has the bass been resprayed or is this its original colour?
I've seen a couple Warwicks that were coloured white from the factory (owned one myself from the 80's) so it wouldn't be unheard of to be original.

Right so when's the next Geordie mini-bassbash going to be penciled in for then? -
It's a little known fact that the wood used on the Warwick Thumb is sourced from a Black Hole
Simplicity is key here my friend!!! I used to own a Thunderfunk, enough knobs to twiddle to give you RSI...i got confused! I guess i have to like the tone then as it is, as shaping it isn't going to make drastic changes!

Who are your favourite players, or putting the question a different way, what's your ideal sound ?. I agree about too many knobs, I like to just plug in and play, that's what's put me off Thunderfunks and Eden amps etc.
You can leave tone controls alone you know I realise that some people can be habitual twiddlers but if an amp has a decent core tone when it is flat then you shouldn't need to deviate too far from that! If it hasn't got a decent flat tone... why would you want it?

Top bloke! Made a decision to buy a bass from me; promptly organised to get to my place with cash in hand... You can't ask for more than that. Many thanks again Peter

I'd love to claim credited for that bass being in such good nick but I can only lay claim to it being waxed once by me... I only had it in my possession a week as it was taken in trade against my Glockenklang! It is however a lovely example and I'm pleased it went to a top guy. Cheers Peter!

I really could do with something like this to send my Warwick Dolphin to Canada in. I don't mean to jack your thread (it isn't a sale or anything so I hope you don't mind) but... if anyone near Newcastle has a heavy duty box that will accommodate a bass and a case please give me a shout I will likely as not be popping into the local music shops to try and procure one but most of the boxes thrown out by shops aren't that heavy duty. Come on give the man a break, take this box; some of us can't even stand the thought of throwing 'bass' cardboard boxes away

Unfortunately string tension and gauge aren't as easy to assess as you think and I wouldn't just go off the string diameter either! Below are some stats for D'Addario bass strings (lifted straight from their site as I'd just been looking at them) and as you can see from the first 2 sets the G string on the .040 Superlights is significantly less than the G (.035) on the Extra Supers. However... if you go to the G on the heavies (0.55) it is almost triple / double the tension of the other two sets but the difference between the E strings is not as great as any of the others. Oh the joy of strings EPS180 Extra Super Light/Long Scale diameter tension item # note inches mm lbs. kg PSB035 G .035 0.89 25.7 11.66 PSB055 D .055 1.40 37.6 17.05 PSB075 A .075 1.91 34.7 15.74 PSB095 E .095 2.41 31.8 14.42 EPS220 Super Light/Long Scale diameter tension item # note inches mm lbs. kg PSB040 G .040 1.02 33.8 15.33 PSB060 D .060 1.52 43.7 19.82 PSB075 A .075 1.91 34.7 15.74 PSB095 E .095 2.41 31.8 14.42 EPS230 Heavy/Long Scale diameter tension item # note inches mm lbs. kg PSB055 G .055 1.40 67.0 30.38 PSB075 D .075 1.91 61.8 28.02 PSB090 A .090 2.29 54.8 24.85 PSB110 E .110 2.79 44.4 20.13

That's not great but TBH shops are probably promised sales every day and they will rarely conclude, so in that respect you can't blame them not reserving till they had your money. Why not ask them if they can supply you with an identical model? Failing that they will be giving you a full refund right?

As a complete noob to the whole string thing you need to step back one step further and consider whether you want... actually forget that! I could be on forever more describing differences between roundwounds/groundwounds/pressure-wounds/flat wounds before we even touch upon stainless steel and nickel (we'll not even touch upon Maxima golds and nylon wounds). THEN you have the difference between the string cores and different manufacturers and only THEN can we even consider string gauge Tell you what, the best place to start is down your nearest bass retailer and ask to play a couple of basses strung with different strings. If they have the foggiest notion what they are doing they should be able to give you some info to assist your purchase (just don't do it on Saturday).
Hi my warwick 1x15 400 wat cab needs a new speaker what would be the best replacement Please can anyone help, got a gig on fri Cheers Wildus
Have you tried the Warwick distributor to see if they can supply? Failing that to get the same tone as you had then you'd need to know the exact specs of the speaker that is original. You could just lob a 15" in there and hope for the best. TBH with front loaded 'standard' 1x15 cabs I doubt that you'd notice a huge difference, so long as you put in a decent rated driver. If you know someone with a spare driver try fitting it to see.

Help needed.. I found a bass in a part ex shop....
warwickhunt replied to funkyjimbob's topic in Bass Guitars
There are various Fortress models and TBH £400 isn't a give-away price, there are some new models of Fortress that are about £400 new. A good few years back I had the rarer first edition model that had the 2-tek bridge and lipstick pups and I don't think I got much more than £400 when Warwick were retaining their value better than they are now. It wouldn't be an 80's model BTW, they weren't introduced till the 90's. The date stamp will be on the back of the headstock; the last two digits denote the year of manufacture. If it is a bit rough and needs anything spending on it (even time) then I'd steer clear there wouldn't be a lot to be made at that price. Check eBay to see what they are going for. -
Do you reckon £325 is about right?
The way to think of it is, what is a 900watt amp with all of the features that you need worth... is that about £325?
