Nothing wrong with Warwick basses that couldn't be levied at ANY bass! Fenders... some people like em, some people don't. Musicman... some people like em, some people don't. Sandberg... some people like em, some people don't. You get the gist Their used prices have taken a big hit (for whatever reason) so I'd recommend looking at that end of the market and you could end up with a stonking 5 string neck-thru. There are plenty of Streamers in that price bracket and you may well score for a Dolphin. $$ and Corvettes will be cheaper again. If you like slimmer necks try to get hold of an early 90s or late 80s bass as they are 'generally' slimmer profiled but any NT should be less clubby.

DR Hi Beams 50-110
Sorry John, what gauge are they mate?
Whatever they are they are going to be lighter than those hawsers 45-105 as it happens Before reaching a decision I've just realised that the DR's are steels... I thought they were nickels (which I use) Sorry Dave. -
Forge Amplification - New amps and that....
warwickhunt replied to wateroftyne's topic in Amps and Cabs
Translate please... "three power amps controlled by a Closed-loop, Servo-controlled, Active Parametric Synthesis, Tri-amplified system" Isn't it a bit short sighted not to offer passive cabs and/or a stand alone amp head? -
But more to the point, I got a Spector Euro for a Christmas present 2 years ago, I paid for it, and it was my first real High-end bass, though through youth-related stupidness and lack of knowledge I sold it on. And latley I've been eriously thinking how it would fare now I'm more focused and havinga much superior amp. Luckily I know where the bass is and who has it: I even miss the colour
Did you sell that through the old BassWorld site? I recall agonising over whether to go for that bass (or one very much like it), mainly 'because' of the finish/colour.
Not being privvy to the esoterica of Warick basses, what would have been a more realistic price for this bass?
IIRC one sold on this forum recently for £800. I know they were changing hands a couple of years ago for £1000. I'd have bought it sight unseen and without hesitation at anything less than £700... anything more than that and I'd suddenly remember that I don't get on with the hanging position of Thumb basses
I see this early model has a one piece bridge
Also the rear of the headstock is sculpted and the body shape is subtly different, the neck is also slimmer than the later models... all round bargain!

As Bill has said it 'could' turn out to be a dog's dinner BUT... occasionally accidents happen and it may sound fine; conversely it may result in a tone that you love (others might hate but hey it's your cab and sound)! If you feel that you need to experiment and are prepared to live with whatever results OR take the speakers and build design a cab around them, which for a 4x12 (or poss x2 2x12) would probably be on the large side to get the sonic best from them (I think Bill, Alex and others will keep me honest in this respect); then just go for it. However TBH you may as well buy or make a 'bass' cab rather than throw good money after bad.

Schaller Type Straplocks - end pin/strap button
warwickhunt replied to nick's topic in Accessories and Misc
Hi, Could anybody please advise where I can get hold of just the end pins for Schaller type design straplocks? Only need a few straps for amount of basses I have, & would like to avoid forking out for the whole assembly if necessary. Thanks
This might sound daft but can you clarify what you mean by 'Schaller type'! I'm having a Spring Clean and I've found a couple of complete sets that I intended fitting to my Warwicks to make them all the same but they are subtly different fitting so I was going to flog them. -
Why not just get one made, would be cheaper. All you need to do is find someone with ability to cut (and drill) small piece of steel plate possibly 2mm to size - a backstreet welder, or small engineering workshop etc. If you had a decent jigsaw & file, you could probably do it yourself - don't throw your money away on a new bridge!
Ooooh, now would brass give any sonic benefits

The strap is about 4' 6" long when fully extended. Non-slip underside and really comfortable when used with a weightier bass. I just couldn't use it as I tended to jump around a bit and it is a bit disconcerting when the neoprene springs Obviously this isn't a problem if you are less vigorous or quite like the idea of your bass on a laccy band £7 (+£1 for postage and 50p if paying by PayPal) Planet Waves 5m lead. angled jack one end, straight tuther, IIRC gold plated plugs. Unfortunately the spring loading on the jack plugs isn't compatible with my main bass (fine with all of the others). £8 (+£1 for postage and 50p if paying by PayPal)
yeah, i've tried using the bridge to raise the action, but that didn't work. as for checking the relief, at the moment the strings are so flat against the neck that it's not possible. i wish i could remember if i used the schaller bridge plate when i did the first fit...although i'm beginning to think that i must have.
Try slipping a block or something under the strings but in front of the saddles, just enough to raise the strings off the leading edge of the neck then you can tell if you have some relief or not. Either way if the bridge is so low that the strings are flat (even with the saddles jacked up) you are going to have to jack the bridge up somehow or as has been suggested get a taller bridge.
I had a Hot rodded Precision in Olympic White/Tortoiseshell which I sold around 2002. I can't even remember selling it now, or who to, or what moment of madness made me do it, but I would dearly like that back.
If we post pics of the instrument we are after it might jog memories!

I sold/traded 'Red' about 10 years ago (as you do when you lust for something better/different) and though I regretted it and tried to establish who owned it, to try and get it back, it had disappeared. I had no luck finding it until... BassChat! Through this forum I managed to establish that it resided with a fellow BCer down in Bolton. I now find myself minus 1 EB Sterling and +1 'Red' Warwick Streamer Stage I bass. Having just spent the last 2 hours stripping it and giving it a bit of TLC I can safely say it ain't going anywhere now. Has anyone else had the good fortune to reacquaint with an old bass or do you have a bass that you'd like to find again. Hey maybe we could start a 'Lonely Hearts' and get bass and bassist back together

Well I would have thought it was obvious... What a dipstick. He's patently already sold his brain for medical research!

SALE Tech Soundsystems ND6x10XT Offers!
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I'm not about to start playing 'Bid Down BassChat' with the price but I'll come down to £725 if it'll induce a quicker sale. If you want the new version, which they redesigned as the model that I have was too expensive to produce, then there is one on eBay in Germany @ £1170 +shipping from Germany. If you live in the NE and are interested in hearing it then I'm gigging it at The County in South Shields tonight. -
Sterling pickups are have a 3rd phantom coil and deeper routing to accommodate it .
Ahhh! I see. How much deeper are we talking? I only ask because could it not be that if a Sterling pup was mounted in a stingray it 'may' just sit nearer the strings... if we are talking a few mm difference; obviously if it's massively different then no way! My price may not be cheap enough so we'll say £35.

Strange though it may seem... string tension bowing your neck may not be the case. I always thought that thicker strings equaled more tension but when I voiced this opinion on another website I was directed to the D'Addario website where they list all the relative string tensions. It would appear that according to the statistics there is less tension on a B string than an E! Now whether the mass of the string adds/subtracts from the equation I have no idea but looking simply at the various tensions listed it would appear that thicker gauge strings need not equate to more tension on the neck and hence no greater pull on the headstock. I am more than happy for someone more versed in this to explain why that isn't the case but as it stands the nut dimensions would appear to be the main consideration.
