When the amp is in use by itself you're unlikely to ever need to use the button. It is mainly useful when you have a couple of units linked together in a rack etc. and in the event you are getting an earth humm, try pressing the button. Loads of amps have them though I've not had reason to employ the Ground Lift on any of my amps in the last 25 years. So long as you know it's there and what it does, then just forget about it.

I'd like to keep this in perspective Ian I am not for one second advocating anyone buys one of these basses in preference to a Marleaux. What I would point out is that if someone is in the market for a £200 bass then 'personally' looking at these and looking at the competition 'in the same price bracket' I'd be having a punt. You can diss this bass for a multitude of reasons I'm sure BUT I could equally pick as many (and identical) faults with virtually every bass manufactured in this price range £200 Chinese Fender copy or £200 Chinese Marleaux copy... they are both budget basses (probably made in the same factory) but given that they'll likely as not have similar construction/electrics etc. I know which one I'd rather give house room to!
I speak German so I had a quick look at the website. It's an HK bass, never heard of them but it looks like a German copy of a Marleaux and at this price it may sound (no pun intended!) like a good deal but I would say 'Buyer Beware!!', the cavity cover is not even match with the body, I think it looks like an attempt by someone to make a Marleaux copy on the cheap. If you look carefully at the pickup routs you'll see it is a little on the jagged side...mmm Just some thoughts... Ciao Ian
I wouldn't argue but TBH at that price I'd cut a piece of plastic for the back and live with a few rough edges; the bridge looks like the real deal and the hardware in general looks better than most £200 F*nd*r copies. Even if it's only 50% of the bass that a Marleaux is, it's about 80% cheaper than the real thing!

I'm confused... is it a Fender? It's Trigger's broom again! Neck, bridge, tuners all replaced so the body and electrics are original... Don't get me wrong it is a tasty looking instrument but the neck could be off anything and who says the body is Fender?

I came across this on ebay (I think it's more suited to this section rather than eBay as it is about this bass and not eBay per se) and seriously had to do a double take that it wasn't a Marleaux bass http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=015 Anyone had any experience with these basses?
That is the great thing about music! Available to anyone interested enough. A very nice elaboration on your earlier points WH (I always have to be careful when considering shortening your login name Not to Wari' if you get my meaning) It was a fuller perspective like yours that I thought would be useful as a note to the OP and anyone else considering, so I hope you didn't mind the tone of my little cyber poke. Cheers Jake
No worries about any digs . The OP and anyone else interested in this thread need as much clarification as possible to inform their decisions. re. shortening my name - I've been called worse over the years
If its a Neutrik (are you sure at that price?) then it will be every bit as good as a Swithcraft.... get it use it..
If it is a Neutrik at that price then I'd like a dozen please You need to check that price and the spec of the socket... it seems way too cheap for a Neutrik; I'd have thought £7-£10 at least!
To respond to a few earlier posts there seems to be an attitude here by a few guys who think that it's really tough to make a living as a player, and their outlook seems limited by their own lack of insight into the game, I don't want to sound rude or harsh about this but it strikes me that those commentators have not encountered the real pro working scene where very professional individuals can make a very decent living, and they formulate their opinions based on examples of people who haven't done very well. I have to say that that is not representative of the pro music scene I know, there are people who struggle in all types of employment music or otherwise and I'm trying to say this without sounding too harsh, just because you haven't seen it work for some doesn't mean it's the same for all. I have a diary full of pro colleagues who have kids mortgages, nice cars, foreign holidays etc etc And this is the bit that could sound awful If you are good enough you'll do ok.
I agree with you almost whole-heartedly. There are people who struggle with employment in all walks of life and I think that the person who succeeds in a music career would have succeeded in selling Ice-Cream, making furniture etc. etc. The musicians who struggle are 'probably' those that would have struggled in any job. I realise that there are plenty of regular earners out there in any form of employment and you hit the nail on the head with your final comment! I would say however that unless you can follow the excellent guidelines that you and others have suggested that 'some' people planning on a music career might be better off getting a non-music career (notice I didn't say proper job ) and keeping the music as something you can do at weekends and evenings. This way you can do whatever kind of music you like without having to worry about an income (the caveat being that ANY job/work can cease to exist at ANY time). I reiterate. Lots of great advice given above and don't let a jaded/failed musician like me put you off. To qualify my position and the angle of my advice... I tried to make it in several originals bands getting publishing/record deals doing self financed tours etc (and the corner pub gigs) but wasn't in the right place nor had the right contacts or maybe we just had cr*p songs and no talent (though we all believed we did at the time). I've given up day jobs to commit to gigging/recording schedules (notice I've had day jobs in a factories as I didn't have the breadth of ability to dep with charts or to teach). I've done the pub/club/function circuit but tbh I didn't enjoy it all of the time and 'I suppose' this is what it boils down to; if you are a Pro it's nice when you get enjoyable work but playing music you like isn't always guaranteed, it's work! As it stands I have a day job now that I enjoy and I can pick and choose what music I want to play, with whom and when. I'm not trying to put people off a Pro career in music as I believe the industry needs good musicians with commitment and drive BUT if your idea of being a Pro musician is a vision of playing gigs and recording albums with your mates, in a rock/jazz/funk/blues etc band for 1000's of adoring fans... that version of a Pro musician is a tricky and fickle road to go down. Sometimes it just takes some of us longer to realise what we really want in life but you have to go for what you believe in

Never used a Neutrik socket but I use their plugs as a matter of course so I'd assume they'd be up there with Switchcraft! I suppose we were just warning against cheapie no-brand sockets.
-
It isn't years of abuse that have b*ggered it... they are notorious for becoming ex-sockets Maplins one will work fine but do yourself a favour and get a Switchcraft one instead
Quiet WH! Any more slips of the tongue like that and I'll have to don the disguise and give you a damn good thrashing.

Yooohooooo Oh and WH - you're next for a spanking (sometimes it crosses my mind that you are naughty on purpose )
Now you know fine well that if I were to get a right seeing to by 'both' of you, then I'd have truly rumbled that it is just 'one' of you... did that make sense? Nice to see you back safe and sound Tinman
Is this bass still for sale? If so, can you provide more information about it, maybe some PICs?
The user was last around back in March just after he listed the bass but he's not been back since so you may well not get a response

Did someone say my name When Warwick first started off they licensed the Streamer outline from Spector / Ned Steinberger (NS). I'm not privy to the details that ended that licensing agreement but Warwick ceased to be 'licensed by...' back in the 80's when they angled back their machine-heads and made a few subtle alterations There are subtle differences in the body shape between the NS bass and the Streamer but TBH there are differences between the early Streamer and the later models so it's pretty much a matter of 'suck em and see' when deciding which you prefer (not which is best). There are also differences in the hardware etc but again... personal preference! If you go to the 'W' forum you'll find (unsurprisingly) that most forumites will convince you that Warwick developed and bettered the original design; whereas Spector devotees will swear that the original is the best... they are both right I have to confess that I just love the Streamer/NS body shape and I've not been disappointed in many Spectors or Streamers that I've tried; some have just suited me better than others. My personal preference being early 'W' Streamers with the 2 piece bridge.

I'm not a 'Pro' musician but I do know musicians (not just bassists) that make a living from playing and I have to say that at times several of them live hand to mouth and I take my hat off to any musician who's sole income (aside from royalties off side projects) is playing / recording who also manages to maintain a family life. One musician in particular that I know has toured with name artists and appeared on numerous TV shows but hasn't had a home in 25 years and has a string of broken relationships! Of the others none of them would profess to being financially comfortable ... though all of them still love playing and performing. One thing to consider is your health. There isn't any sickness scheme if you break a finger or come down with some lurggy and can't earn It isn't all doom and gloom but there are plenty of broken dreams along the way.

Best "clean" sounding amps & cabs for soul & funk?
warwickhunt replied to molan's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'm currently running a Euphonic i-Amp 350 combo with a CXL 112 extension cab which I really like. Haven't had a decent chance to use it with my new soul/funk band but think it'll be just fine for this. However - I've had it a while so vaguely thinking of swapping I've organised a nice little combo for rehearsals so this would be purely for medium sized function hall gigs. Quite like the idea of the Epifani 502 + 310 combination but I'm sure there's other stuff out there that might be fun to try. Just looking for a few pointers before I hit the GAS trail properly!
I've been mighty surprised by the Glockenklang Bass Art! Clarity without sterility and warmth without mush. I'm running mine into WoT's Schroeder 21012 tonight to see what a single medium sized cab can do. -
Hi Lee, I sold the cabs to the first person who got in touch and kept in contact. There were 8 people interested! I wasn't sure if I should go for Warwickhunt's Tech cab but the distance and logistics involved, combined with the fact that we may not like each others gear made it a no go. I've gone for TerryK's Bergantino IP 310. I went to try it last week and it's very nice. Cheers Steve.
It's always the same with us 'Runaway Jocks', too far from any b*gger! Enjoy the Berg Steve.

Everything that I've ever seen on eBay from V&R has been priced way above the going rate! I've no doubt they aren't the only ones but they are an eBay shop that regularly enters my line of sight... mainly because I often list my searches by price in descending order and they are at the top I'm not likely to ever be popping in there but I'd tend to be put off by the price tags regardless of whether they are up for a haggle.
