1.
You've eliminated the bass and head and I doubt it's airborne interference inducing signal into your cab directly. To be audible it would probably cook you! Where I live we used to frequently have everyone put on a temporary diesel generator patched in to the sub-station down the road with corresponding mains glitches . Don't know if you've got one of those in use at present that's kicking out a lot of mains-borne or air borne interference than normal mains? It's not another household appliance gone a bit awry is it? I wouldn't have thought a good amp itself would let noise through its power supply - it's more likely to be something airborne getting into a high gain amp - either the preamp or your bass itself. Where we practice we're about 2 miles from a BBC radio transmitter and at times that seems to be able to induce a signal into just about anything including guitar amps without a guitar plugged in! The only other thought is a radio transmitter of some sort nearby that's just turned up. Sorry - bit vague but I'm sure someone here will have a more specific answer. Mike
No Mike don't apologise, anything helps! As it happens I've taken my amp(s) up to the local rehearsal room and they were fine there (though the capacitor(s) on the GK may be on the way out as it appears to be a bit distorted and there is a bit of a pop on powere up/down, but that's a different thread ) Analysing what you've just said I do know that a couple of hundred yards down the road they are doing some road works, removing the existing white lines and replacing them and they have a Gennie in operation for the traffic lights, so your suggestion holds water. I suppose I've no way of confirming this until they are gone but I'm still perplexed as to why our electricity has tripped a couple of times through the night!
 2.
Just-a-nut one has differing width string grooves. I asked when I wanted to tune my 4-string BEAD, and Warwick DE sent me a larger A-string screw.
The bridge saddles and the nut grub-screws come in 2 different sizes; 1 for the E & A strings and 1 for the D & G strings.
 3.
That review brings back some memories of the good ole' days of Bassist Magazine... In fact, I think that I might own that exact review model... the reason being that I think Gibson Keddie did that review and frequently appeared in a photo on the contents page of the magazine with a burgundy red LX, the same as the review model. Implying that it was either his own bass, or maybe a freebie from Warwick. I bought my LX (identical to those specs, with a '97 serial number) from the Gallery back in 2001 and Martin said it belonged to Gibson Keddie who was getting rid of some of his old basses. Kind of a famous bass...
I think you're probably correct. The Gallery must have been a clearing ground for either G Keddie, Warwick or Bassist magazine! As back in the early 90's The Gallery sold me the Warwick Streamer Corvette (F hole bass) that the mag had reviewed.
 4. I've just been offered a GK800rb as part of a deal for my bass. Plugged it into my cab connected bass, cab etc powered up (to quite a large pop) and I'm getting a hiss and what a sound like a drummer playing fast para-diddles! Argh... I power down. I step back think then go and get a different bass and lead (inc IEC mains lead). Same thing (except no loud pop as I left the speaker cable out until it was powered up, then I inserted it). I tried the speaker lead in the other outputs, inc' the 8 ohm 100 watt output... the same. Argh... I power down. I step back think then go and get a different amp (my Thunderfunk). Same thing (except no loud pop as my TF doesn't do those things). The same thing but not quite as noticeable! Now this has never been like this before. I can't see how the cab could be inducing this noise but I'd like any input if that is plausible! As both amps are doing it I'm assuming that it's consumer electricity supply related... I don't have my car at the moment otherwise I'd throw it all in the car and nash around to my local rehearsal rooms, so any thoughts? Just a thought but... our leccie supply on the ring main has tripped a couple of times through the night, this may give some clue but I don't know! Obviously I'm going to contact a mate who is a sparkie but in the meantime has anyone come across this before?
 5.
Oy Hunt !! It's Littler !!! Yeah I did my best filling in for the "legendary" KevBucket - Well worth catching the propper line up - www.TheRHCP.com The County is a canny gig..... nasty lift up an outside iron staircase like !! you'll be pleased you have lightweight stuff. last time I played there I had an Ampeg 8x10 and we used a pair of Mackie 18 Bins Oooooh my Back !! Strangely my phone rang a lot at the end of the night..... Urgent Calls and that
Outside metal staircase... glad it's not winter, with snow a n d i...c..e Oh yeh maybe it will be Ashington Central was the last one of those I did. Tell you how long ago it was IIRC I had a stack consisting of the early (red stripe) TE cabs, 1x15 & 4x10 in flight cases! Luckily the natives were friendly and we had the gear out in double quick time. This year I will be mostly making more of an effort to see other bands!
 6.
People who want stricter controls or rules are placing too much responsibility on the mods.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the mods should chase every newbie up demanding that they post an introduction but it can't be too difficult (says he with no idea about the machinations of the substructures of web forums) to set it up so that when you join you fill in a basic profile so that we get a rough idea of who and what people are about! I don't want the mods to have to do anything more than they do, I appreciate the time that they spend on the running of the site as it is but surely setting something up 'might' actually save them time and grief in the future?
 7.
I think the best idea would be a follow-up post to unintroduced sellers asking them to post in introductions.
A sound idea. Maybe I am looking at this from an isolated point, as in; I have a mature approach to introducing myself when I meet people and it's possibly a dying 'art' I also have a natural tendency to want to ensure that I fit within any given congress which again not everyone does. So I willingly concede that maybe I am more concerned than some about how we conduct ourselves but I don't believe that makes me wrong, even if I'm in the minority. I know my job kind of predisposes of me in this respect but doesn't anyone else feel the desire to educate even in a small way when a situation such as this arises?
 8.
ha ha , well considering that iv'e just drove home from doing the ski season in soll, Austria, "70 gigs in a row i may add" driving down to harrogate is "just doon the road" !! just to answer ya question , i play in a rockabilly band going by the name of , the legendary "Bessie & the Zinc Buckets im also playing bass for a local rhcp tribute band going by the name of THE REET HOT CHILI PEPPERS, so try to catch us sometime and im sure we could chat udb or bass funny thing is iv'e just met wateroftyne last week , as i bought a bass case off him , really sound bloke later daddio kev
I've heard of B&tZB but never caught you. I was also talking to Mark tuther day and he was depping for you in tRHCP I believe. So that's another band I need to keep my eyes open for If you're playing over my way give me a shout, my next gig in SS isn't until the end of May at The County. Never done it before is it any good?
 9. Can I point out that I have no objection 'per se' with someone popping on here giving a minimum of information to establish who they are, selling then bogging off. As has rightly been pointed out, more choice for all... a good thing! The post count minimum etc is almost irrelevant. I think it would be fine to come on here and make your first post a sale IF we knew a little about the seller. I know that people could just trip out a pack of lies but it wouldn't take much to uncover. I do however have genuine concern that as BC grows and as has been pointed out attracts the fly-bys it'll also attract the scammer. Now before people shoot me down and say you can't eradicate/block/stop them, I know that would be 'almost' impossible BUT a simple rule that if you want to post in the for sale section you have to at least fill in your profile and give a minimum of info; the town where you live, maybe a bit of info on your gear and if you are in a band blah blah. Nothing too intrusive like giving your postal address and number of residents etc. I realise that it could be argued that you are opening the door to scammers establishing a person's identity and using the electoral role etc to establish who, where they live but that could be said of any sale! I could contact someone on the forum at this very moment and say 'I'm interested in your bass, give me your address and I'll pop around and check it out'. I now have the name and address of someone and I know they have a very nice bass at home! Doesn't it make sense to just put in one or two simple measures to at least not make it a push over to con the gullible and less experienced? I like CK's idea of asking posters if they'd give a bit of an introduction but shouldn't the onus be on the person joining BC to have the decency to do that?
 10.
I think those are patent or part numbers for the cavity plate itself!! on my '97 LX and '02 Infinity, the serial numbers are on the back of the headstock, between the top and bottom rows of tuners...
Anything after 92 'should' have it on the back of the headstock.
 11.
Was looking on e bay at bass guitar strap locks most for less than £10 is there any that could be recomended for heavy weight pre EB ray thanks Stewart
I'm certain that I have a couple of unopened sets (I was going to fit the same system to all of my basses but never got around to it ) in black or gold. Not sure what make they are, I'll check but you can have them for less than a tenner (inc postage). If you've bought a set don't sweat.
 12.
might be interested in this cab , pm me with ya phone number and i'll give ya a bell as i only live up the road in south shields cheers kev
'Up the road' Kev! I live up the road from you in Blyth... Harrogate (aside from being down the road) must be 80 miles from S Shields. Funny how some people have a different perception of distance. You and WaterofTyne should get together he's got gypsy blood in him too
 13. Ah! Tried the P bass out and it was... poorly. Pup was weak to say the least and though I know necks can have a bit of give in the pocket, this had several mm of travel in all 4 planes I tried to tighten the neck screws but they were stripped and the owner wasn't keen on my removing the neck (if I'd given it a good hard tug I could have separated the two)... next please I know all of these faults are fairly easily remedied but TBH the guy was wanting top whack for his bass and with a neck that has patently been on and off so many times, I'd have doubts that it ever started life on that bass; not good for an 'original' early 70's P bass
 14.
i've always found warwick bridges to be a bit too narrow for .130, but they do fit if you take some pliers to the string and squeeze it a bit
Not the best advice in the world How about if you are going to use that gauge of string then you widen the bridge saddle? It'll still accommodate a skinnier string but you haven't potentially compromised the integrity of the string.
 15.
I first found here through the for sale forum.

I've bought a bass and sold a bass since I've been on here, but haven't even got round to putting up for sale the other bits i want to shift! Will manage it soon. Bargains guaranteed, step right up, step right up etc.
People 'may' be missing my point. It is the number/multitude of people coming on here and they launch straight into sale mode. What's wrong with saying 'Hi, this is me'? I was pointed in the direction of this forum (well, actually it was BW at the time) because I was after a particular bass and out of common courtesy I came on and introduce myself, said what I was into and give a bit of history. I then offered to help, (if I could) with anything pertaining to Warwicks, I could equally have come on and said, 'can any body help me I'm interested in...'. This f*ckin society of ours is turning into me me me. OH and I now get to test the chaos theory... If a BCer rants in the BassChat closet (for things best left unsaid) does anyone hear him/her?
 16.
John mate, Jake has made a payment for that strap I'm afraid, they have all sold now, alot faster than i'd ever imagined they would! hopefully its still ok to bring the streamer round at some point, I'm thinking next week? best regards, Ben.
NO! Of course mate no worries. I'll PM you my phone number and we can sort something out. It'll be interesting to A/B our SSIIs as I don't consider mine that heavy!
 17.
sorry, just trying to enhance my post count to look better for selling stuff
Doesn't count if you bump whilst the thread is in the cupboard
 18. Hey Ben. Keep hold of the first strap that is 5" wide... I'll square up when I see you soon or you can pop it in the post. Cheers
 19.
Thank you for your comments Gentlemen, they are much appreciated if sadly received. If I have the prospect of only getting £600 for the bass it will remain on its stand in the music room. Thank you for welcoming me to this very interesting and informative site. David.
You're welcome Stick around you'll get used to the witty banter
 20.
all i've got is Deutschland No4009001.9-51 and usa/europa & japan numbers on back of cavity plate...does this make any sense? Thanks for your help thought you might be the man in the know...cheers John.
'Normally' Warwick serial numbers give a letter (the month it was made A = Jan B = Feb but no use of the letter I) then the serial number (can't recall exactly if this is the number of that model bass made that year) then lastly a pair of digits for the year. Ltd Ed & CS basses differ slightly but the end digits are always the year. Try a quick search through the warwick.de forum and you might uncover the info there. I've only ever owned a couple of the BO basses and TBH I can't recall where the number was but I do know that they guy who bought my Streamer Pro M fretless is local and I need to see him sometime soon, so I'll check out his bass.
 21.
I consider myself a noob on here although im "no longer a noob"...just.Ive been on a week or so. What attracted me to BC was the easy going and humerous nature of the forum, these guys are for me i thought, still do. I recently joined the ernie ball forum and was very quickly put-off with the holier than thou attitude from the admin team and some of the members, god forbid you should mention fitting a different make of strings other than slinky's,if you mentioned changing the colour of your scratchplate....well that was it.No talk whatsoever about other company's products or else you recieved a very stern ticking off. Ive been involved with running forums myself and been chair of a club,we found the quickest way to turn people of and make them feel unwelcome was to treat them as lesser because they were noobs. In turn then they feel like the forum is "holier than thou".The way to avoid "bumps" from new members is a simple and polite pm from the team. Its easy for senior members to flag this up or even to send the pm themselves. Give people a chance, treat them the same as everyone else and you'll have good loyal members without the elitist atttude that exists elsewhere. Thanks.
I agree (almost) completely. I've gone out of my way to welcome folk to the forum, I've given stuff (not sold) to people who've been in a fix (strings, Warwick screws & saddles, jack sockets & plugs) and I'd think that there are a whole heap of other members who would do the same BUT it cuts both ways! Come in pull up a chair, introduce yourself, you don't have to show that you know it all (or anything for that matter) and maybe tell us where abouts you live... perhaps someone might live near you and it'd be a great introduction. MAYBE that kind of info will be useful because if your in a fix someone local might be able to pull you out of the sh*t (dead amp etc) but coming on and diving straight in with 'I've got this for sale' seems a bit 'self-centred' for my personal tastes!
 22. Did you buy your bass new? If not the previous owner may have messed up the saddle inserts. The bridge saddle string guide comes in varying widths (on a 4 string the E & A are the same size as is the D & G... never owned a Warwick 5 so not sure about that). One things for sure if you visit the Warwick.de forum they'd be able to tell you and someone may even be able to help you out 'if' the saddle has been changed.
 23. Try looking in the control cavity... shouldn't be on the top of the headstock (at all) BUT check there just in case.
 24.
And that's a lot more than I sold mine for
... and more than I then sold it for
