Just come off the phone from speaking to the owner. He's lived with these issues for a while but has conceded it may need a service so we're looking at £250 - £275 (the latter figure is his but the former is my interpretation ) I'd still like to know if capacitors failing gives these symptoms. Hopefully I've got a Sparkie coming around any way so I may get him to test them. I'm a bit green when it comes to the guts of amps, so what do capacitors look like (don't worry my fingers won't go internal)? I'd assume that a common or garden Sparkie will know what amplifier capacitors look like!

I have no use for the amp so I'd need to ensure that whatever I knock off for it I need to get back by selling it on here or in the local paper. I'm not about to ruin a reputation by selling something that is duff so I'm not diving in feet first. I need to do a search really as I'm sure someone on here was asking about 800rbs in an unrelated thread a while back. We'll see.

I need to make a decision as to whether to take a GK 800rb in as part-ex but it has some issues. Namely; it pops on power up and down and it has a degree of distortion, especially as the note dies away. I'm a bit critical of noise but the guy at my local rehearsal rooms that I've just called into (another thread) reckoned he's gigged worse amps! My question is... has anyone any experience of similar issues? Obviously I can take it to a tech but it's going to cost me money to even have it looked at and if it's an expensive fix I'll not even bother. However, if as it has been suggested by the guy at the rehearsal rooms it is capacitors failing and it's an easy inexpensive fix (would it be?) I'll strike a deal. A GK800rb anyone?

As it happens I've taken my amp(s) up to the local rehearsal room and they were fine there (though the capacitor(s) on the GK may be on the way out as it appears to be a bit distorted and there is a bit of a pop on powere up/down, but that's a different thread ) Analysing what you've just said I do know that a couple of hundred yards down the road they are doing some road works, removing the existing white lines and replacing them and they have a Gennie in operation for the traffic lights, so your suggestion holds water. I suppose I've no way of confirming this until they are gone but I'm still perplexed as to why our electricity has tripped a couple of times through the night!

Kind of a famous bass... [/quote] I think you're probably correct. The Gallery must have been a clearing ground for either G Keddie, Warwick or Bassist magazine! As back in the early 90's The Gallery sold me the Warwick Streamer Corvette (F hole bass) that the mag had reviewed.

I've just been offered a GK800rb as part of a deal for my bass. Plugged it into my cab connected bass, cab etc powered up (to quite a large pop) and I'm getting a hiss and what a sound like a drummer playing fast para-diddles! Argh... I power down. I step back think then go and get a different bass and lead (inc IEC mains lead). Same thing (except no loud pop as I left the speaker cable out until it was powered up, then I inserted it). I tried the speaker lead in the other outputs, inc' the 8 ohm 100 watt output... the same. Argh... I power down. I step back think then go and get a different amp (my Thunderfunk). Same thing (except no loud pop as my TF doesn't do those things). The same thing but not quite as noticeable! Now this has never been like this before. I can't see how the cab could be inducing this noise but I'd like any input if that is plausible! As both amps are doing it I'm assuming that it's consumer electricity supply related... I don't have my car at the moment otherwise I'd throw it all in the car and nash around to my local rehearsal rooms, so any thoughts? Just a thought but... our leccie supply on the ring main has tripped a couple of times through the night, this may give some clue but I don't know! Obviously I'm going to contact a mate who is a sparkie but in the meantime has anyone come across this before?

Maybe I am looking at this from an isolated point, as in; I have a mature approach to introducing myself when I meet people and it's possibly a dying 'art' I also have a natural tendency to want to ensure that I fit within any given congress which again not everyone does. Can I point out that I have no objection 'per se' with someone popping on here giving a minimum of information to establish who they are, selling then bogging off. As has rightly been pointed out, more choice for all... a good thing! The post count minimum etc is almost irrelevant. I think it would be fine to come on here and make your first post a sale IF we knew a little about the seller. I know that people could just trip out a pack of lies but it wouldn't take much to uncover. I do however have genuine concern that as BC grows and as has been pointed out attracts the fly-bys it'll also attract the scammer. Now before people shoot me down and say you can't eradicate/block/stop them, I know that would be 'almost' impossible BUT a simple rule that if you want to post in the for sale section you have to at least fill in your profile and give a minimum of info; the town where you live, maybe a bit of info on your gear and if you are in a band blah blah. Nothing too intrusive like giving your postal address and number of residents etc. I realise that it could be argued that you are opening the door to scammers establishing a person's identity and using the electoral role etc to establish who, where they live but that could be said of any sale! I could contact someone on the forum at this very moment and say 'I'm interested in your bass, give me your address and I'll pop around and check it out'. I now have the name and address of someone and I know they have a very nice bass at home! Doesn't it make sense to just put in one or two simple measures to at least not make it a push over to con the gullible and less experienced? I like CK's idea of asking posters if they'd give a bit of an introduction but shouldn't the onus be on the person joining BC to have the decency to do that?

It'll still accommodate a skinnier string but you haven't potentially compromised the integrity of the string.

It is the number/multitude of people coming on here and they launch straight into sale mode. What's wrong with saying 'Hi, this is me'? I was pointed in the direction of this forum (well, actually it was BW at the time) because I was after a particular bass and out of common courtesy I came on and introduce myself, said what I was into and give a bit of history. I then offered to help, (if I could) with anything pertaining to Warwicks, I could equally have come on and said, 'can any body help me I'm interested in...'. This f*ckin society of ours is turning into me me me. OH and I now get to test the chaos theory... If a BCer rants in the BassChat closet (for things best left unsaid) does anyone hear him/her?
