Thank you for your comments Gentlemen, they are much appreciated if sadly received. If I have the prospect of only getting £600 for the bass it will remain on its stand in the music room. Thank you for welcoming me to this very interesting and informative site.
all i've got is Deutschland No4009001.9-51 and usa/europa & japan numbers on back of cavity plate...does this make any sense? Thanks for your help thought you might be the man in the know...cheers John.
'Normally' Warwick serial numbers give a letter (the month it was made A = Jan B = Feb but no use of the letter I) then the serial number (can't recall exactly if this is the number of that model bass made that year) then lastly a pair of digits for the year. Ltd Ed & CS basses differ slightly but the end digits are always the year. Try a quick search through the warwick.de forum and you might uncover the info there. I've only ever owned a couple of the BO basses and TBH I can't recall where the number was but I do know that they guy who bought my Streamer Pro M fretless is local and I need to see him sometime soon, so I'll check out his bass.

When did someone put a big notice on BC saying 'Sell Here'?
I consider myself a noob on here although im "no longer a noob"...just.Ive been on a week or so. What attracted me to BC was the easy going and humerous nature of the forum, these guys are for me i thought, still do. I recently joined the ernie ball forum and was very quickly put-off with the holier than thou attitude from the admin team and some of the members, god forbid you should mention fitting a different make of strings other than slinky's,if you mentioned changing the colour of your scratchplate....well that was it.No talk whatsoever about other company's products or else you recieved a very stern ticking off. Ive been involved with running forums myself and been chair of a club,we found the quickest way to turn people of and make them feel unwelcome was to treat them as lesser because they were noobs. In turn then they feel like the forum is "holier than thou".The way to avoid "bumps" from new members is a simple and polite pm from the team. Its easy for senior members to flag this up or even to send the pm themselves. Give people a chance, treat them the same as everyone else and you'll have good loyal members without the elitist atttude that exists elsewhere. Thanks.
I agree (almost) completely. I've gone out of my way to welcome folk to the forum, I've given stuff (not sold) to people who've been in a fix (strings, Warwick screws & saddles, jack sockets & plugs) and I'd think that there are a whole heap of other members who would do the same BUT it cuts both ways! Come in pull up a chair, introduce yourself, you don't have to show that you know it all (or anything for that matter) and maybe tell us where abouts you live... perhaps someone might live near you and it'd be a great introduction. MAYBE that kind of info will be useful because if your in a fix someone local might be able to pull you out of the sh*t (dead amp etc) but coming on and diving straight in with 'I've got this for sale' seems a bit 'self-centred' for my personal tastes! -
A note about the 5-string Warwick Corvette $$
warwickhunt replied to terryblyth's topic in Bass Guitars
Did you buy your bass new? If not the previous owner may have messed up the saddle inserts. The bridge saddle string guide comes in varying widths (on a 4 string the E & A are the same size as is the D & G... never owned a Warwick 5 so not sure about that). One things for sure if you visit the Warwick.de forum they'd be able to tell you and someone may even be able to help you out 'if' the saddle has been changed. -

Just out of interest; why the move? -
Try looking in the control cavity... shouldn't be on the top of the headstock (at all) BUT check there just in case.
Newer US Deluxe models have a contoured heal and 18V electronics. A 1998 model would have a block heel and probably 9V electronics. I have heard comments about the older preamps and pickups being better, but to be honest, have swapped out the eletronics on both my US Deluxe basses (1 x 1996 and 1 x 2001) because I felt they were too all or nothing.
I have to confess that a P deluxe passed through my house last year. Though I really liked the body weight, rolled fingerboard edges etc. for my own personal taste (one man's meat etc) I just couldn't coax out the tones that I wanted! Preamp or pups I have no idea but I couldn't face a quest to improve the tone so it resides elsewhere on this forum. I reiterate though that 'for me' the skeleton of the bass was a great basis for building an even better bass... I just couldn't be ars*d

When did someone put a big notice on BC saying 'Sell Here'?
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Site News
I don't disagree with any of the responses and all as valid as the last few times this topic has probably come up and I agree that it is up to the individual to sort out whether they are prepared to enter into a transaction with a seller but shouldn't we have a collective responsibility instead of the 'look after #1' mentality that seems to be pervading society? signed Asad Owldhippy -

People who sign up just to sell their unused bass, bought in the mistaken belief that it will get them instant R&R fame, has always gone by pretty much unchecked but I'd genuinely like to ask if anyone else feels that all of a sudden we have a glut of peeps joining and doing nothing but advertise their gear? -
When did the 'Super-Jazz' come into being?
If you look at the way Roger describes what happened, he was modding basses in the late 70s and early 80s, but at that time, he'd tell the guys who came to him to go and find the nicest 60s Jazz they could, then he'd mod/upgrade it. I think he was building full instruments by the early 80s, and also, he stopped recommending that they upgrade 60s Jazzes as he realised he was telling them to basically destroy any vintage value the instrument might have. I'd imagine other builders were doing much the same thing. For instance, Charvel/Jackson were certainly do Fender style basses in the early 80s, and I know Schecter were building similar instruments as well. So you can definitely say that that style of bass existed in the early 80s, and I'd imagine there are probably earlier examples as well.
That was my view on the manufactured Super-Jazz as opposed to the modded Fender. Does anyone know of any sites that have examples of early production Sadowsky's etc? -
The classifieds are a major way of generating traffic for the site, especially in search engines, and often how people first get introduced to the forum. Not to mention that some stuff gets advertised here that never makes it to Ebay. I can't see the cause for your concern, can you expand on it?
Unlike fleabay we have no way of verifying anything about newbie sellers. I'm not about to part with my hard earned to a complete stranger but there may well be a few on here who are a bit less thorough in their vetting of a bass related item or its seller. I'm well aware that there are those who will shout let the buyer be ware etc and tough luck if you're fool enough to part with your dosh without seeing/collecting it BUT we are a bit of a bass community... aren't we? -
Certainly it was in my mind to put a "You could at least have said hello first" type reply.
You aren't looking hard enough... there's more than one today alone! I'm well aware that we have a choice whether to interact with the sellers but I feel it is a bit rich to steam in and as you say no introduction as to who a seller is and slap a sale up. I'm not saying you have to be a sad owld git like me and waste half your day on here but at least letting us know who you are and allowing people to ascertain how genuine you are seems the least to be expected! -
This has been aired any amount of times BUT... Is it just me that feels we may well be turning into feeless fleabay?

Ashdown ABM 500 RC Evo II Chrome Fronted
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Amps and Cabs
Oddly enough as you rightly point out the 'normal' Evo500 II is more expensive than the chrome fronted one! http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~a...ead~id~8583.asp -
When did the 'Super-Jazz' come into being?
I reckon that's him then. (Harlough Green is next to Low Fell). The guy who taught me bass had one of Howard's basses (this would have been around 1990) and it was a direct copy of a Jazz with EMG's attached. It was my first experience of playing one (I had my starter bass at the time - a short scale Fenix from Grott Guitars!) and I fell in love with it. I was determined to get him to make me one, but couldn't afford it on a paper boy's salary. In the end, through my teacher, he sold me my Squier JV (unmodified) which I have had ever since (still unmodified!). It was the nearest (for playability) I have ever played to the one he built. I remember going to his house for it, and counting out 10p's for the last few quid as I'd literally scraped together everything I had! He seemed like a very nice fellow. Since my last post, I have read that thread about him running the bass place. Didn't realise it was the same guy!
Can you remember the name of the guy who taught you bass? It wasn't Kenny Potter was it... and by any chance is your JV a sunburst? I only ask as I'm sure that Kenny helped locate a buyer for an early JV that I had and I've often wondered where it went. After having spoke to a local bassist last night about various basses that we've owned I'm having a bit of a day trying to piece together some of the blanks in my 80's/90's booze addled brain. Seems over the last 20 years I've sold this 1 guy six basses (which he still has, now that is just weird) and I can only place a face to 3 of them... this is a bit of a worry -
Is that the same as the one for £449 new? Looks really nice.
I've no idea! I've no affiliation with SL though I've used them numerous times and I'm on first name terms with the owner (always the sign of a good business man when you can greet your customers by remembering their name). I just thought that these amps were a fair bit more than £359 when they came out and anything less than £1 per watt for a quality amp is normally my means of judging value Saying that I've no idea if Ashdown's ABM range is still considered 'quality amp' -
That's why I decided to have a punt. I've always wanted a white charvel with a skinny neck (in both directions). This ones neck is far too palm-filling for mega fast '80s metal though. It's not impossible, just not too comfortable, I was playing along to Kill 'Em All last night.
The Charvel that I owned had a very low profile (skinny front to back) but it wasn't skinny in width. I seem to recall it being quite broad luckily I play thumb behind the neck so there was no issue.
-
Bagged a bargain by the looks of it Very similar to a Charvel that I had... it was a long L O N G time ago (think Poison, Motley Crue and big hair) honest

I had a wall wart step down transformer for a USA voltage BBE bass pre and I'm sure it cost something like a fiver... is there any reason (current draw etc) why you can't just use one of those?
What a handsome pair!
This would have been about the same year that you filled the roll of handsome bassist in the band
That name rings a bell to me (I haven't a clue about luthiers or custom builders). Did he live in Harlough Green (Gateshead?)
Howard lived over Low Fell, Gateshead wayso may well be the same (spoke to him yesterday and he'd doing well).
So you were The Queens of the Stoneage's original bass player? (Check out the singer.)
i really like that actually mate, a bit like the fender bailey sig
Just Googled his Jazz; body woods are similar choices (I went for American Walnut IIRC), his pups are jazz config and strangely his controls look more like the layout of my Warwicks! Any idea when Fender first produced that Bailey sig? I'm really trying to fill in the blanks of why I went the route that I did... I must have seen some developing theme in Jazz basses back in the mid 80's -
Just browsing Soundslive's website as I'm popping up to the Toon today and spotted this (1 only ex-demo) @ £359... seems a fair price if that's your bag.
