Isn't the whole EQ thing dependent on too many things to generalise about pro/con? I was about to post that I have a flat EQ on my gigging amps (Thunderfunk/EBS350) but then I realised that my other amp (Tech Soundsystem Blackcat) isn't 'flat' when everything is in the centre BUT it sounds good like that. I also used to use the contour control a lot on the Handbox WD100... which is a mid control. It literally depends on me (fingers or pick), bass (active/passive), strings (flats/rounds/old/new), amp, cabs, effects, room, band line up (guitars/keys) inc drummers kit... the list goes on. However, I should add that I play with 4 different bands (often with interchangeable drummers), using various amps, with various musical outcomes. If you play one thing all the time maybe one setting works.

Are they mini humbuckers? I like basses that are a bit different and that is defo on the tasteful side of different.

The Ultimate KISS Song Tournament
warwickhunt replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
Pleasant 30 mins on YT going back to my youth! I did a charity gig for Cancer Research and we put together a 'tribute' band to KISS; it was all low budget but I bloody enjoyed the songs again... more than I did the boots! -

Fixed it for you!

I've had them on Warwick basses, so yes. However, I didn't have one to hand.

Really nice bridges those Hipshot B's. I actually don't have an issue with the 'quality' of bridge that is fitted as standard, not bothered that you have to slacken strings and slide to placement but it is a bit odd that the up/down travel is bottomed out and it seems some bridges are either positioned incorrectly (mine was defo 8mm out when comparing 2 identical bridges on Jake basses) or that you can't get enough lateral movement to intonate.
-
I had a Schaller 3D to hand when I was 'adjusting' my Jake and they are a lot lower profile... otherwise it'd be on my bass by now.
-
A consideration is, how 'high' is your new bridge? I looked at fitting shorter Warwick saddles into the Maruszczyk bridge but they were 3mm higher. I also had 3 other bridge designs in the house and all would have been higher, with no option to get the saddles lower.
-
Your bridge is fine compared to mine... which was positioned incorrectly! As to the question of a 5 hole Fender style bridge... someone obviously tried it on my bass before fitting/refitting the factory bridge. I've moved my bridge 10mm further back to fix the intonation issue but the saddles are flat to the base with no adjustment possible and yet I would ideally have liked to have dropped them a little further.

It was a bit of an odd one tbh! We were all psyched and up for it, new guitarist had to be found and drafted in with 3 weeks notice and he aced it. However... we were booked on the understanding this was a 'rock' venue with weekly band nights that were squarely aimed at rock music. Only thing was they gave us a Friday night gig, when the rock nights were always on a Saturday! We ended up playing to a really broad section of punters from 20 - 70 year old; some of the 20 year old's were up and dancing and the older generation singing along to the hits but they weren't CT fans as such! The management were enthusiastic about a Saturday rebooking and apologetic that we ended up on a Friday. It was the type of venue and location that didn't entice a lot of people to travel to. Here's a clip from one of the hits! 2023-03 The Flame.wmv

Get a used Tech 21 Sansamp, it does what you ask and the added advantage, if it doesn't work for you it'll be worth what you paid for it when you resell.

There's a whole thread on FRFR somewhere if you have a look, it'll save you waiting for everyone who posted on that, posting on here!

All done. Bridge back 10mm and loads of intonation adjustment. @simisker - I have a Hipshot here and the holes weren't quite lined up so no. @miles'tone - Haussel Bassbars (N & B)

The plot thickens!

Fixings are at toward the back of the bridge, so plugging and refitting shouldn't be an issue BUT... this paint is fairly thin, satin and soft. I'm fairly sure the bridge will have bitten into the paint and it'll come away stuck to the bridge. Only one way to find out but if it doesn't lift off easily I'm going to be pretty miffed at Maruszczyk for managing to get this so wrong!
-
The bridge is in the wrong place! Just measured from the 12th fret to the front of the bridge (same bridge) on my regular Jake and it is 8mm further back than the orange Jake!
-
I wonder if the custom/non-standard builds like mine go through a different process/handling. Don't know why I didn't think of it earlier but it's easy to check as I have a regular Jake cased in my music room... off to check what's going on with that!
-
Maybe a different employee set up the jig for the 5 string bridge placement? It defo makes sense as I can simulate where the saddles would be if the scale was measured from the nut, not the zero fret and it would work then.
-
It had me scratching my head and actually wondering if they'd got the scale length wrong. HANG ON... they have messed up and I know why/how! The bass has a nut and a zero fret. I reckon they have measured the baseline setting from the 'nut' rather than from the zero fret which if the bridge was placed based on the zero fret it would move the bridge a good few mm further back! Shame on you Maruszczyk!
