    If you think it's bad being an underappreciated bassist... spare a thought for drummers! We use drum deps regularly as our drummer often does shows, studio sessions etc and we've been known to literally put a shout out on FB (deps that suddenly remember they are doing something else) that we need a drummer in a couple of hours time. We 'never' let on to the management or the audience that the drummer is a dep and we've yet to have a single negative response to using someone who's never even sat down with us and worked out stops/starts.

    This isn't about anyone buying a property next to a pub? We were booked to play a venue where the customers attending knew there was a band on. We (the band) were happy to play to the managements level using their PA which they had full control of (other than acoustic level of drums) but we were disappointed when the management wouldn't turn us up, they thought our 2 vocal monitors (350w 1x10) were as loud as it needed to be. The drummer subsequently had to play 'down' to our monitor level. Incidentally, the guitarist has no backline and goes from Helix to IEM. Despite thinking this would damage our reputation (poor sound) we decided that cancelling would be even poorer form. We were frankly stunned to get a message from a customer claiming they'd suffered hearing damage.

    TBH their flying sound system was impressive but at no point during the whole evening (band and background music) did the levels get to a point where 8-10 folks sitting around a table had to raise their voices. In fact at one point (while we were playing), I could hear the general topic of conversation around one table... the cost of affordable housing if you must know. It was actually quiet off-putting playing my ar5e off and folks talking was drowning us out! LOL

    It was a private message but if we need to we can refer the gentleman to the corporation that is 'The Hard Rock Cafe' as we are sure they have a legal dept that can allay his fears that logged readings of negligible amounts can't/won't have caused him any serious harm. As it happens we do have public liability insurance but seeing as how we were using the venue's sound equipment and it is this that has 'allegedly' caused the damage, then I think they'd need to deal with it IF it came to it.

I do know where there is a Jake (P) for sale, which it might be cheaper to add a J and get defretted... just a thought. <edit> It might be worth trying mine to see how you find the pups!

    My band (3 piece playing rock covers) played The Hard Rock Cafe in Newcastle last night. Set up requires bands to bring their own desk and plug into the house PA (massive Bose speakers slung from the ceiling), the pub manager controls overall volume from his device. Except he didn't! Despite us going out front to listen (the benefit of radio gear), he said he couldn't get us louder and there was nothing coming out of their system... and I genuinely mean ZERO! When he put the house background music on, we could hear it through their system, so it was working. We played 2 sets with only our vocal monitors (pointing at us) to carry the vocals a very odd experience. This in itself was disappointing but the oddest thing was that today (next day) the band got a Facebook message from a punter to say that they were suffering from mild hearing loss and tinnitus; WTF? We've no idea whether this will play out further but I do know that with 40 years gigging experience, there is categorically no way that we were loud. Added to which, nobody forced the guy to stay and the room was massive so he could easily have moved; he certainly didn't complain to us or the management at the time. We had friends at the gig and they were having normal conversations around the table without raising their voices. Chalk this one down to experience at the (not so) Hard Rock Cafe.

    I recently bought/traded this bass on BC (hence the stolen pics ) but an even more recent purchase of a Sandberg means I'm unlikely to use this, hence the sale. Make: Fender Model: Dimension Year: 2014 Country manufacture: USA Body: Alder Finish: Rootbeer metallic Neck: Maple with asymmetric profile and Posiflex Graphite rods. Truss rod wheel adjustment. Hand rubbed oil finish. Fingerboard: Maple with bone nut. Nut width 1.625” (41.3mm) Compound radius (9.5” to 14”). Frets: 21 in good condition Pick ups: Fender humbuckers Preamp: 18v preamp with 3EQ (cut & boost on treble/mid/bass)and five way switch (both inner coils and both outer coils on in-between positions). Controls: Vol Bass Mid Treble + 5 way switch Hardware: Fender high mass bridge. Fender F stamped tuners with tapered string shafts and strong arm retainer on the A string. Weight: 9lb 6oz Case: Fender Gig bag Modifications: None Positives: Extremely well set up. Colour/finish is really nice. Read up on asymmetric necks as they aren’t shockingly different but you do wonder why it is as easy to play. The powerful humbuckers giving a wide array of tones and you can go from almost Musicman Stingray to Jazz bass at the flick of a switch. One just sold on ebay for £840 and it isn't as nice (IMHO) as my bass. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284518776940 Negatives: The bass has a number of small marks on it though nothing that could be seen from anything other than close up. There is also a couple of small indentations at the volute at the back of the neck where it meets the headstock, you need to tilt it in lights to see this. No structural, electronics or playability issues. Price: £750 Trades: PLEASE do not message me with bits of kit that I can clearly find on eBay / FB / Internet forums for £200 and tell me it is worth £500, I'm not daft and I know how to search for relative values. Likewise '1 off' custom instruments that you may well have paid £3000 for but sadly the average bassist values at £500, I can't give you £2000. Sorry it is better if I'm just up front about it rather than waste anyone's time. Vintage Warwick basses will always float my boat, likewise unusual esoteric brands.     They always seem like a good idea but unsure how practical; as it happens I need a pair for Saturday, so I'm likely to go for a pair of local RCF cabs.

    Another bassist here who has used various 'oils' on basses for 40 years (I have basses I've owned for 30 of those years) and I've yet to have a single issue with fingerboards popping frets, rotting, delaminating etc. I've not read any of the links but I would like to ask that if fingerboards shouldn't be oiled due to microbial whats-its... what the hell does the oils from our skins do to aid microbial attack / decay? I've seem some pretty minging, gunky fingerboards where you have to scrape the fatty juices off the side of the frets to find out what the fingerboard actually looks like! If that isn't going to rot the wood, I can't see a cleaner, healthier product doing 'more' harm!

    Oddly enough I read the original ad and I thought; 'Yeah, fair comment!' However, I can see how it might seem a bit abrupt/belittling. Are you going for it?

    Your amp appears to have parallel 1/4" outputs which means @lozkerr could hook up an 8ohm cab to each of those outputs and set the switch to 4 ohms. It'd be easy to adapt a pair of speaker leads to go 1/4" > Speakon.

    'IF' it is a bolt on neck, you'd save a fortune sending it with the bass disassembled... obviously can't be sent in a filghtcase but you can then double/triple pack it. Saying all of that insurance on an expensive instrument is prohibitively pricey and some couriers insist instruments are sent in cases; which negates taking it apart. Your buyer also has to factor in 20-25% in taxes etc.

    I'm looking for PA cabs and these would be ideal. Sadly courier to the other end of the country wouldn't work out viable.

    I've just bought the 'roadworn' version of this bass and it is SUPERB! I've owned a fair few Fenders over the years and IMHO I think you'd regret going from this to a Fender... but then again that could be someone else's gain!

    I've always wanted another one of these (one of my few regrets selling mine) but Brexit and the whole taxes/import/export puts the block on a 2 way trade for me in the UK.

    Ditto. I even felt like Spector bodies were like Streamers that had endured Lockdown and eaten too many pies!
