  1. Yes, this was asked and answered above. I prefer the P bass aesthetically but I have a P bass, I have a PJ bass but not a JJ (unless you count the Urge bass). I've also considered the 'modified' route and had sourced pups but by the time I've bought, modified and replaced parts on a P bass I 'might' have been able to pick one up off the shelf (used). As it happens, there doesn't appear to be a budget brand that does this. Hence I may follow OHM's route or indeed, modify a cheap Squier or similar.
  2. I like the P bass shape/aesthetic / I want a variation on the P or PJ sound.
  3. Modding a P bass has always been on the cards but is it cost effective 'v' buy something ready done (hence question). Cost P bass + x2 J pups + scratchplate (custom made) + cost of routing. Offset would be selling standard scratchplate and the P pup... or keep them to revert.
  4. Oddly enough I sourced pups to do this... but then they might go in a different bass that I already have. However, I will be left with the pups coming out of the modded bass so that is an option.
  5. Not bad but I'm guessing not cheap. I quite like the fact that the pups look to be offset further back than a Jazz would be, which might quite tighten the sound.
  6. Do you have an accurate weight for the bass?
  7. I've sat looking at that G&L and even though it defo is a P bass shape it looks subtly different (not a bad thing), I wonder of it is slightly fuller in the bouts. Oddly @Sibob I like lots of the G&L features but I can't get away with the bottle opener headstock (liked the old headstock)... or do I. LOL The Markbass looks like it was made in the same factory as some of the Peavey range... and a bit pricey for my interest.
  8. I'm not talking about a custom order or a 5 string (I know Squier did a 5 string P bass with JJ). I'm trying to source a cheap/reasonably priced bass that is the P bass body but with a Jazz layout of the pups (controls immaterial), yet I can't seem to find an off the peg bass that suits... surely there must be models out there? Cheers for any input... unless it is 5 string or other pup config related.
  9. With bodies in Alder, Ash, Maple, Mahogany, Bubinga... give me a minute and I'll think of more With fingerboards in Maple, Pau ferro, Ebony, Wenge... give me a minute and I'll think of more
  10. Observation from personal use - Trace Elliott amps generally kick in 'loud' from the first 1/10th of the travel of the gain... then it evens out; hence a perception they are louder. I'm sure it must equate to the pot values.
  11. Nice bass David and loads of cracking info... except for the bit we all ask eventually, what does it weigh?
  12. If only I'd seen the advert 3 minutes earlier... we could have been under 30 minutes! Pleasure doing the deal Doug... just got to see what I'll put them into now!
  13. Can I take these please? I'll obviously cover post or pay a bit more into charity coffers. Name your charity if they are mine.
  14. They now take fees direct from your bank account, so even if you get paid cash on collection you still need to pay that percentage of fee... only they will have a direct debit to take it from your bank (or will have by 31st May). £51.50 does seem excessive in fees mind; is that about 12.5% ebay + paypal maybe. In which case you'll be better off in the future as you won't pay paypal fees.
  15. I have one... and you are correct! However, how many of us genuinely tinker with onboard controls at a gig? You can use your amp EQ to dial in the tone you like after finding the combo on the bass that you like. Think of it as a P bass... it does one thing and it does it well.
  16. Sold. Just to say that as it is now sold and not to someone on BC, I'll reiterate that this was one hell of a bargain of an amp. If it weren't for the weight (less than many amps), I'd not have sold it. If you are in the market for a PRO amp, search one of these out! I've got nothing to gain from bigging it up, just trying to ensure anyone search threads re. these amps realises what a bargain and monster they are.
  17. I had an Ampeg solid state flip top years ago with an EV iirc. Not sure about presets etc but it was about 150w and a nice bit of kit... though it ran out of steam pretty quick.
  18. Were they not doing some kind of big discount on TC cabs if bought in conjunction?
  19. I have the exact same bass (1997)... I say exact but the back of mine is a clear lacquer and the pup selector switch is a pan pot; superb basses with a very consistent tone across the whole range. GLWTS
  20. I have a TC Staccato and though it is surplus and a back up amp, I'd not let it go as cheap as that RS750 is!
  21. LOADS of amps for sub £350 that are 500w, which is either 50w more than the RS750 or 250 less (depending on who you believe) but you couldn't possibly notice the difference in volume either way! I think it is more a matter of do you like the tone of the TC or do you prefer the sound of one of the others.
  22. They look sweet and that weight... just the wrong end of the country for me to trial them!
