Shall I try an experiment... I have a Warwick SSI that has what we are calling the 'reverse' P and I have the same model (a ltd 5th Anniversary bass) but with the standard non-reverse P pup (I'll measure the leading edge). Point of note is that for some reason Warwick decided to slightly angle the pups... maybe they knew it would through up debates in years to come. Only problem is that though the two models are Streamers they aren't the same bass nor will they have the same strings, hence all things aren't really equal in a test.

I had a Fortress with the 2-Tek bridge. Great bass but the bridge added about 2lb to the weight! LOL Is your Pro II black? I've seen less ambiguity with the solid black basses than other colours.

The 'Sadowsky' adjustable nut... I bet Warwick wish they'd thought of that one!

Perhaps the number of instruments produced in that finish didn't justify the extra man power/materials/production technique... possibly that is what didn't make sense?

As I said earlier, the Sterling does have a phantom/third coil, that could have became detached.

If the pup screws are tensioned (not loose) it shouldn't but the Sterling does have a phantom coil... wonder if that is the culprit? If it is brand new then you've nothing to worry about.

Ah but how many of us still 'tape' things?

I have a Noll pre fitted (2 band EQ) in a different Warwick bass (Infinette) and if anything I'd say it has a slightly brighter top end than the MEC. Any of the good quality makers will make a good pre; EMG is the original to the MEC.

Were Andertons or GuitarGuitar or someone else not clearing out old stock at these prices (new)?

I personally have no problem with that view (I've driven 200w cabs with amps that 'could' deliver 1000 - 1600w BUT I wasn't using the full potential) but you must listen to your gear and adjust volume (and frequency boost/cut) accordingly. Amplifier watts have never been cheaper (or misquoted) so why wouldn't you future proof your purchase and have spare headroom.

All amps come with a built in feature to stop you blowing speakers... it's called a 'volume' control. Be aware that amp and cab ratings aren't an absolute science and it is difficult to accurately compare 2 manufacturers. Finally the difference between 500 and 1000w is not double; 1000 is not twice as loud as 500w. If you want double the output power you need TEN times as many watts (like for like amp).
