  1. Were Andertons or GuitarGuitar or someone else not clearing out old stock at these prices (new)?
  2. HPW of Warwick initially made Jazz copies, closely followed by his 'TV bass'. https://bassmusicianmagazine.com/2017/09/luthier-spotlight-hans-peter-wilfer-of-warwick/
  3. I'm sure they do a 4 string.
  4. Ibanez. They have a new range out that is exactly this.
  5. If you want his details (name. home address, phone number etc) they are all readily available on this thread and various other FB groups. It also takes about 5 minutes to find out where his next gigs etc might be (covid dependent). All of this info is in the public domain, no secrets being disclosed.
  6. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't hold your breath! He has used that line with every single person he has scammed so far.
  7. I personally have no problem with that view (I've driven 200w cabs with amps that 'could' deliver 1000 - 1600w BUT I wasn't using the full potential) but you must listen to your gear and adjust volume (and frequency boost/cut) accordingly. Amplifier watts have never been cheaper (or misquoted) so why wouldn't you future proof your purchase and have spare headroom.
  8. All amps come with a built in feature to stop you blowing speakers... it's called a 'volume' control. Be aware that amp and cab ratings aren't an absolute science and it is difficult to accurately compare 2 manufacturers. Finally the difference between 500 and 1000w is not double; 1000 is not twice as loud as 500w. If you want double the output power you need TEN times as many watts (like for like amp).

  10. Don't forget the VAT.
  11. The original Fender Urge... you get an extra P pup with your 2 Jazz but it is 32" scale (though I personally don't think it makes a massive difference to feel.
  12. LOL Not exactly the Isley Bros tone which I think was referenced (a la 'Summer Breeze').
  13. TBH an Ibanez neck is a pretty skinny thing and I reckon you'd struggle to find many manufacturers that could get that skim.
  14. Only just realised tonight that the bassist on this song was also the vocalist. No idea why I've never twigged, as I remember hearing the bass line 100's of times on the radio but I always imagined that being of that era the vocalist would have been someone chosen from maybe session singers from that genre. Has anyone else ever been surprised in a similar way, especially by something that they may have been familiar with?
  15. Looper pedal; used prices of the TC one are about £50. You can add a drone and move up to 4ths 5ths etc but great for adding simple bass roots to noodle/improvise over. Added bonus of you don't need to be messing on with PC + software.
  16. I've got the USA 2 pup version that came after this and they are a great instrument! GLWTS
  17. This ^^^ From posts on this thread I've been getting concerned that I've had levels /outs / DI boxes completely wrong for 40 years. However, aside from me giving specific voltages for the 3 levels (agedhorse has rightly used more generalised values but not miles away from my guesstimates), I was saying the right thing. I tried to say from the outset that sticking a standard DI box between the combos speaker out and the speaker seemed like a bad idea. I was unaware that the range of DIs available would allow this, so I've learned something... I think. LOL
  18. PEAVEY + 'Black Widow' (the name was/is a byword for quality) - If you didn't own one or want to own one back in my early days, you obviously weren't a 'serious' bass player. If I were starting over again today, I'd have one of these before half of the more modern kit available.
  19. Would 1 piece maple necks (without a maple fingerboard layered over) not have a skunk stripe though?
  20. As I say, I've fed desks with DI signals (either my amps DI or their own supplied) where engineers have asked if I can attenuate the signal down as it was too hot. Personal experience meant my head couldn't get around a signal at speaker level which might be x10 hotter! LOL
  21. Yes, I think that is the bit I was wary of/unsure of. I've had basses that have been too hot through the DI (amps own DI and external box) for a desk to handle... I was struggling to see how a speaker level could go to a desk and the level be OK.
  22. Just read around a bit and every day is a school day. Most of my encounters with either my own DI box(es) has been inline before the amp or have been in the amp. I've never personally seen a one post amp/pre speaker and it seems that not all DI boxes can attenuate from speaker level but some can be placed there... with care!
