  1. It was an Ash/Maple PJ that I had in see-thru white. I'm sure I sold it to a BCer and it may have resold since then!
  2. Easy way to tell; if it sounds like a Ric... it was probably his P bass! Sorry. Joking aside, I'm sure someone will know but I was amazed when one or two tracks I always assumed were Ric, turned out to be a P bass.
  3. I've owned a pair of NYC and 3 (or is it 4) Metro inc a Will Lee model. I have to say the Metro basses were superb quality fit and finish and I'd be hard pushed to tell between them and NYC in a blindfold test. The NYC basses were lighter (my spalted bass was almost 'too' light) but the Metro basses were never heavy and all were sub 9lb. When you are talking NYC money the differences will all be down to personal preference for finishes, fingerboard/body woods etc and I'm unsure anyone can advise on that. Great basses and I doubt you'd be disappointed... I'd have a PJ Metro back in a heartbeat (I trawl the UK sale sites weekly).
  4. How do they feel softer and what is the difference in tension please?
  5. That's a cracking weight for a Streamer!
  6. I know it came back to me but I let it go again... wouldn't mind it back mind! GLWTS
  7. Cheers. I always felt it was wrong to be EQing for a room when each cab was slightly different. I didn't know the science behind it but logically... it wasn't logical! When I went one make, one speaker size (doubled up for my needs) it made more sense. I read something of yours many years ago (pre BC) re. speaker arrays (G Dead) and from then I used speakers arrayed vertically and I've never looked back.
  8. Quick question Bill if I may. I've always considered that when I used to used different cabs (4x10 and a 1x15 for instance) with a full range amp, that when I tweaked the amp EQ I would be trying to get a 'best fit' tone as each cab might be responding and sounding slightly differently according to EQ changes. Would that be right? I found that when I changed to pairs of identical cabs (presently x2 2x10 cabs stacked vertical) I could EQ and get better/quicker tweaks to the sound.
  9. G Sutherland bassist of 2000 Warwick purchase may well not be the 70's Prog keyboard player!
  10. I'm confused... do you mean a Spector NS-2? If so, the two are as dissimilar as I could imagine 2 basses being.
  11. Yep that's about the level of detail you normally get for most Zon bass sales. It's defo a USA 'custom' but tbh you rarely see an off the shelf model, most people select little upgrades like the top. You can get the serial number off the heel of the body and you could find out date of manufacture etc. That looks really nice and I do kick myself that I've sold my Sonus basses (as nice as that) for half that but it is a shop sale and times change!
  12. I've had 3 Sonus basses and I'm looking for another! re. spec; they have a broad range of preamp and pup combos with choices of body wood tops... but none of them will be cheap!
  13. Love seeing stuff like this... absolutely nothing like how I played it in a band but I'm a pita for hearing what I want to hear and playing accordingly!
  14. If it uses the same piezo system matched to mag as the Bolin, it is (IMHO) one of the best. I find the piezo works great in an acoustic environment (acoustic guitars, cajon etc) and sounds like an acoustic bass. I also use a little bit of the piezo blended with the mag to add a bit of top end 'sparkle'. The Bassist magazine some years back rated the Bolin as one of the best sounding finger style basses they'd ever tried/reviewed (though they didn't rate the tone for slap bass) and I'd say that the system used and construction are very similar! GLWTS
  15. I've worn them for 10 years or more but still lost some top end... the 30 years before I was fitted for plugs did the damage! I think NS has been involved in some of the finest basses of the last 30-40 years, from his involvement with Spector and his Steinberger basses through to these.
  16. On the vid clip I'd say it's not a million miles away from the tone of the NS Bolin basses, would you agree?
  17. IIRC 87 is about the earliest 5 string Thumb.
  18. I've owned (cough) a 'few' Thumb basses over the years and yes the early ones are that bit different and special; never had neck dive on early ones and the tone is all of its own. I have one purely to play in the house (LukeFRCs 85 JD bass) which is ridiculous but I can't get away with the standing / strap position! Luckily the prices rarely fluctuate so you'd not lose money on one (once you've saved up)!
  19. Nice and those would be my pup of choice/position! If anyone buys/has this and fancies a PJ 'M' bass... just saying!
  20. The 1 speakon out is no matter if cabs have in/out link. Certainly check out the TC RS 210 cabs... love them. Added to which iirc you can use 3 cabs with their heads.
  21. (Home)made in Japan! LOL
  22. Very quiet on the old Zon front. A few years ago you'd see one for sale every month or so but now they seem to be thin on the ground. I wonder if Zon themselves are selling less new basses or if folks are just holding onto them?
  23. The MIM P bass isn't in the same price category as the M bass, so unfair to compare but it does the job!
  24. A pair of subs in your average pub type gig could have phase cancellation issues, you might be better going for a single sub of good quality over a pair of lesser quality... negated if you stack the subs of course.
