For me the Sugarbabes are a relatively small amount of talent driven forward by excellent production standards and marketing. Hey, I've just described most pop music ...
Precisely. Book em in at the Dog and Duck on a Monday night fronting a four piece and hear the truth...Unlike back in the day when most 'famous' performers could entertain at the scariest of levels. Small town pub, all the ceiling lights up and three old geezers and a dog sat right in front of you....terrifying.

For what its worth Ive had vintage P basses and now I play the CV 70's...Maple, blocks and a fat ole neck and its as good as any of those old Fenders I had for years....sounds good too.

Not suprised. Ok I'm getting on a bit (eg old fart?) but the place had a strange vibe...was happy to leave.

Easy. Take a tip from the classical world. Buy a half decent instrument then practise like ur life depends on it. No need to ever buy another instrument. Practise.

Few could touch Rodders back in the day for griitty pop/rock vocal prowess...total original talent. But the day he donned a tux was a sad day indeed, who's he think he is...Sinatra?
And Jools follows a line of key players who never gave a give a fig about the bass player...watch his left hand...major dis-respect. As for the show...Ive no idea..same ole thing for ever..., question is, what else is there?

Confusion? "HE" = her other half.🙄

Ive got one of these too...so good I sold my two vintage P's and that thick ole neck is to die for. How do they do it for the money?

Certainly be kind and civil but my experience with female singers is you cant tell them anything. They are about the most fragile musicians on the planet.
Band I was in, she and the very good guitarist were a couple....She looked really good had the moves, attitude etc...but it wasnt until I viewed the playback from a significant outdoor festival the that awful truth was revealed....she would go way out on the high notes but it was no use remonstrating as... 'HE' would get ridiculously protective. I left.

Just had a go. Its pretty simple and so over produced no one will care a hoot how you play it. Sounds like a series of octave stabs or not...depends on the night...Dont over think it...just play.

May I suggest that way too many keys players play bass anyway. My biggest beef with them that most just play as if theyre playing solo...banging the left hand on the bas notes.....

Lovely and nout wrong with 'Basswood' either, both my P's (VM + CV 70) are BW, sound grt.

Atomic is basically a high impact disco octave workout...The verse is the tricky bit..Its just repetition to build the stamina really. Practise doing fast octave leaps up and down the board.

Never ever use wire wool on an instrument...it gets in the electrics, scratches the finish...terrible stuff. To dull. Strip it right down and yes then use 1500 to 2000 wet and dry wet with a tiny drop of washing liquid....will look mnaturally worn afterwards albeit scratchy and duller. having said that I'd just trade it for a CV 70's or 60's jazz....Brill instruments.

Scrap all that ...just heard the Wombles xmas tune, first time in decades...what a stonking xmas party tune...

What does it all mean? In my old school world its a superbly written iconic pop tune but is that the reason it's there or is something else going on...Surely kids today want something from there own scene making the top for xmas...Wheres Ed Sheeran, Adele, et al?

Sorry for the pain but no need to be without a bass ever. Go get a used CV70's P bass or something.

Grt stuff all... some good ones there. Trouble with Slade is if the guitarist doesnt get that AC30 middly farty tone it doesn't always work, amazing how strummy it actually is.

Well someone had to say it....Anyway mines a pint and ..Slades Merry Christmas, and Eltons Step Into Christmas...Couple of stomping party tunes if ever with some tasty bass work...having said that Ive also done that Mariah Carey thing and it's fun too... specially with a chorus of drunken females sharing the lead. Now that was.. a party to remember, ha

Sorry peeps I almost feel bad for not spotting him. Anyway just to say if you go..."mwah" up and down the fretboard youve got him to thank.
-
What a funny ole place this is....so no Jaco Pastorious? Copy that.
-
Ive done a few christmas deps over the years playing the usual suspects but the one I would have loved to have done is Elton Johns Step Into Christmas.....what a brilliant double time/ghost note workout...great tune.

Depends on the individual.
Sorry I just do not agree. Your there to work (someones paying) even when ur not playing u shld be thinking, engaging even if you dont really want to...pretend! Goodness knows Ive done it enough back in the day. It also suggests that there is a lack of chemistry when band memebers attention starts 'wondering off so to speak.

I don’t know, it’s quite nice to have something to do while listening to the guitar player balls up the same overdub in the same place over and over and over…And ..'that's why he's messing it up cause you look like you could'nt care less. It was always the case tho not nessecarily easy to sit there..head up and taking an interest in what the other band members were doing....Absolutely nothing worse in a control room than a band member demonstrating little interest in what everyones doing as they either read or mess about doing something else.
Is the cost of living crushing music?

Im 63. What exactly do u mean by that....creatively or something else? Not trying to be clever, genuinely would like to know as I have my own view which tends to upset a lot of people.
