  1. A wall of sound is exactly what we're going for. Where we do leave space, it's generally long, sustained notes with lots of distortion.
  2. I know Stingrays can sound pretty good with lots of dirt so it will work when I pair it with the right pedal. The fuzz I've got at the moment is really disgusting and doesn't like any clank from the bass which is why it works with the Thunderbird.
  3. I'm looking for more dirt because I've just joined a stoner/doom band. Only one guitarist so the bass is really filling out the sound, especially during guitar solos. I've got my valve preamp gain near max all the time and I've got an Orange fur coat fuzz which sounds filthy with my Thunderbird but weak with my Stingray so I need something to work with the Stingray. I searched ebay last night and bought a WayHuge Green Rhino which is a tube screamer type overdrive. I'll look for a Russian big muff later. At least with used pedals I'll only lose the postage cost if I don't like them. I'm tempted by the Justin Chancellor fuzz wah but there's no used ones yet and I'd probably lose £50 or more on a new one if I don't like it
  4. They're supporting Iron Maiden on this tour so after our local ex cow shed they're off to play arenas with tens of thousands of fans
  5. I've just been told I'm going to see Airborne. My dad is a fan, they're his favourite live band so he's got us tickets to see them when they're in town at the Cheese And Grain in Frome. It's pretty awesome to see such a big band at a small venue in a small town. It'll be at least the third time they've played there so I guess they like the venue. I've seen them before and they're an amazing live band, they really put everything in to their shows. I've seen a roadie wheeling the exhausted looking singer back to the bus on top of a flight case before!
  6. It doesn't help that there's so many different pedals and then half of them seem to have a Russian version (for a good communist drive) and a geranium version (better for use in the garden). Plus they sound different with different basses and different amps. Then there's the satanic themed pedals, are there pedals for all religions? Do they work for atheists? At the moment I use a Two Notes Le Bass for a nice Ampeg style drive but I want something a bit more nasty for a truly disgusting doom metal sound.
  7. Is there any logic to choosing the right distortion pedals? I've tried watching videos on YouTube but then half of what you hear is their amp and instrument so when I get a pedal that sounded great in the video, I try it and can't get close to the sound I heard and liked. It's especially difficult to find the right fuzz.
  8. Snap your fingers, snap your neck - Prong
  9. If they want you there during work hours and you all work then tell them they need to pay to cover the income you lose from your day jobs. It's additional to the service you originally quoted to provide so it seems reasonable to charge for it.
  10. Bloody hell that's a disgrace. I can fart with better timing and tone than that and it won't stink as bad. I find most slap annoying. Slap solos in particular. I know I can't say that here but it just sounds bloody awful to me.
  11. If you see the original band play the song live they'll rarely play it exactly as the record. I guess they would get bored reciting it exactly the same every night on a long tour so they have some fun with it. Why not do the same I a cover band?
  12. It's good value. I had to hold off last year but I've just put a bass up for sale to fund an AD200. I'll be in touch soon hopefully.
  13. I forgot about that. Probably something about how James Jamerson did his stretches
  14. I wear a pink tuxedo and top hat. Is there anything more doom metal
  15. I can't watch Scott's bass lessons. Is it a 10 minute video with some jazz noodling, an explanation of his day so far and then in the final minute he tells you to never hold down the low end without stretching?
  16. Core strength is the way to go. Get your core muscles built up through gentle exercise and your back will be doing so much less work. Its made a huge difference to me in everything I do. Pilates may not seem like a very manly exercise but it really works well.
  17. My back is a bit of a mess after falling off a cliff (a bad day rock climbing). Pilates is seriously helpful. Building core strength really helps take the load off of your spine.
