  1. Another significant album released on 24th September 1991 was Wretch by Kyuss. Certainly not their best work and not a great record but it was the first stoner metal record from the Palm Springs desert scene which lead to so many great albums
  2. Thanks for the offer but I think I'll go with the Harley Benton
  3. That looks like incredible value. That could be her birthday sorted.
  4. If you want 100% accuracy on every note and perfect sound then what you really need is a computer and not a string instrument.
  5. I'm looking for a new (used) guitar for my daughter. She wants a Les Paul or Jaguar but I don't want to pay more than £200 because I know it will get battered. I've been looking at the Harley Benton Fusion 3 and their Les Paul style guitar. Are they any good?
  6. You have to be able to tune to 0.1 cent accuracy to hear the difference your £6000 Golden Oval instrument cable makes with your guitar made by the world's finest Luther from the rarest tonewoods and the finest tort pickguard.
  7. I seem to remember the popularity of hair metal dying off in the late 80's. The bands had all started to dissappear up their own derrières in an excess of cocaine and bad lycia outfits. They'd all passed their peak and were just churning out second rate tunes that lacked anything original.
  8. I'll stick with the pick. I can't imagine being able to play those power chords fast enough with that technique, my hands don't move that fast. A local band does a cover of Ace of Spades and the bassist plays with no dirt on his tone and gently finger picking just single notes and to make it worse the soft female vocal just kills it. It's a sorry cover of a great song
  9. I'm not sure Pearl Jam should ever have been classed as grunge but Ten is up there with the all time greatest rock albums
  10. I never got T Rex. I've spent time trying to get in to them but just came to the conclusion it's a load of old hippy toss
  11. Waiting room is a simple bass line but every little imperfection in playing it stands our a mile. I've a lot of respect now for Joe Lally. I always thought you could be a bit rough with punk but that's just not the case.
  12. Carrion Flowers - Chelsea Wolfe (Brilliant song and so dark)
  13. How do you play the fast power chords without a pick? I play both styles (never slap) and couldn't imagine playing anything Motorhead without a pick.
  14. Yes, I own all their albums, I was a big fan in the 90's. I agree In uterp and Bleach weren't exactly commercial but Never-ending definitely was and that's the record that made them so huge. In Utero was my favourite Nirvana album.
  15. I'm not sure but I'll guess Black Sabbath's first album? The most important album ever released ever in the history of the universe and the birth of heavy metal
  16. True but it was still one of the all time great rock albums.
  17. RHCP and Pixies both released their last good albums on the same day? It doesn't feel like 30 years.
  18. I think Nirvana were the pop group of grunge, they made records to appealed to more than just punk, alternative and metal fans who were already listening to bands like Mudhoney, Tad, Melvins etc. There was something a bit more catchy to their music where some of the other bands were playing music that wasn't as instantly likable and needed a few listens. The whole first grunge band discussion can go the same way as the first punk band discussion and there is no right answer. Grunge was something that evolved out of alternative rock and hardcore.
  19. That looks like it's been painted by a hot rod pin striper, I know all of ZZ Top were hot rod owners. I rarely listen to ZZ Top but they've definitely influenced a lot of my favourite bands.
  20. I'm learning Waiting Room by Fugazi. Brilliant song and all about the bass line. It's only really one riff but it's quite fast and has to be played very cleanly, all imperfections in playing stick out a mile.
  21. Today has been a great selection of doom, sludge and stoner metal with the highlight being some Crowbar.
  22. But if you can still walk after moving it, can it be called Trace Elliot?
