  1. Surely for 70's punk it should be whatever bass you either find in a skip or steal from a crusty in a squat. If the tone isn't quite right, hit a few people in the face with it, the blood and skin should condition the strings. To be honest, I don't think they actually went for a specific tone back then. They just used whatever gear they could steal or borrow, put on a long strap and hit it hard with a pick and generally abused it.
  2. I'll agree with that. If we all liked the same things everyone would listen to Coldplay & Maroon 5 and the world would be a terrible, terrible place.
  3. I did photoshop a tort pickguard on it and didn't like it. I think the burst was too light for it to work. It fades in from dark red rather than black.
  4. On a plane - Nirvana
  5. People = S**t - Slipknot
  6. I have been looking at SVT's and in my price range it seems to be mk3 and mk7 which just have a single valve in the preamp and a solid state power amp.
  7. Ship is sinking - Ye Banished Privateers
  8. I don't know why but I always thought I didn't like The Cure. Turns out I was wrong so this afternoon I listened to their performance at Glastonbury. I was at the festival but I have no idea where I was during this performance.
  9. South of heaven - Slayer
  10. Eyes of the South - Down
  11. Kill the rich - Anti Flag
  12. I get that but going as far as copying knob layout, pickguard shape, pickup type and position and even headstock shape is not necessary. Some manufacturers (Ibanez for example) seem to manage to make something different that works.
  13. I find it a bit of an odd thing that guitar manufacturers make clones of each others products rather than developing their own styling and tone. It wouldn't be accepted if Kia were to make a clone of the Ford Mustang so why does it happen with instruments?
  14. Sweet young thing ain't sweet no more - Mudhoney
  15. That is excellent. Unfortunately, the Mark E Smith I saw live was a completely different person. This is really very good.
  16. I thought the government said their trade deal means no import taxes between UK and EU?
  17. Easy Skanking - Bob Marley and the Wailers
  18. You can see why Rickenbacker are so protective, Fender struggle to sell anything with all those P and J bass clones everyone and their mum is selling. Who would spend a grand on a genuine P bass when you can get a clone on Amazon for £60?
  19. Be quiet and drive - Deftones
  20. I think it must have only been a year or two before he died, their last performance at Glastonbury. He'd definitely had a LOT of alcohol, he clearly had a major problem.
  21. Mark E Smith is easily by far the worst singer I've seen live. He was a mess, whizzed himself during the first song, just mumbled a few times, couldnt really describe it as singing. Wandered off stage occasionally, messed around with the bands instruments as they played. The guitarist looked like he wanted to punch him
  22. I've always liked the Smiths music but always really disliked Morrissey's vocals. I also thought the same about The Fall and Mark E Smiths vocals and the Sex Pistols and Jonny Rottens vocals (pre Sid obviously). I find that the worse a vocalist is, the more people go on about them being a lyrical genius (Pete Doherty for example)
  23. I have looked at local jam sessions. There's two, one jazz and one blues. I don't know anything about either genre. I've also only ever bothered learning natural and pentatonic minor scales because that was all I needed for metal. I'm fairly sureI wouldn't do well in either of those jam sessions
  24. Shooting star - Gojira Looks like I missed several posts. Ignore this one
