I'm at a point where I feel like I need to try lots of different gear to understand what works for me. I had a Fender Jazz MIM but didn't like it. I have a feeling it was just a bad one. I do seem to have settled on Orange amps but partly because I can't afford an Ampeg SVT Classic.

Solos are so last century. It's all about the break down now. Stamp on your dirtiest overdrive, palm mute and half time for 8 bars. One note is plenty, maybe too much.

New album from Idles this morning. They've come on a long way since their first album but it still sounds great.

There is no worse sound than a YouTube slapper. A million notes a minute and it all sounds like a filing cabinet falling down a fire escape.

You have a sensible dog. I'd rather be stuck in a confined space with my dogs flatulence than listen to slap.

I did have a Trace GP12SMX with TE 4x10 & 1x15 and its definitely the combination that gets you there. I replaced one of the TE cabs with an Orange 4x10 and it sounded good but didn't sound like a Trace amp any more. It was closer to the Trace sound with my Orange head with the Trace cabs. I think the TE reputation for being rather weighty is exaggerated. The TE 4x10 is the same weight as my Orange 4x10.

This discussion has worked out nicely. I've checked out quite a few of the albums mentioned here and found a few new bands I like. Dead Daisies and Amyl & The Sniffers being the highlights.
