  1. We all have our issues. Some more than others. It's good to talk about them and sometimes the right time and place is in the middle of a discussion about Lex Luther
  2. I have two friends waiting to be assessed for ADHD. The wait for that is two years and while ADHD is not a mental illness, living with it and not getting help with it can cause mental illness. In this area, the wait for CBT is two months and then you only get four sessions. It's really poor. Is it just me or has this one gone off topic?
  3. There is a desperate shortage of mental health workers (and all other health care workers) in the NHS. If only they could work out why no one wants to train for years to earn a terrible wage. It sure is a mystery.
  4. The Nordstrands don't sound like any Fender I've heard, they sound really good. I had the Bartolinis in my SRMS805. There is absolutely nothing distinctive about them, very generic bass sound. They sound OK when you pile on a ton of nasty valve overdrive.
  5. My daughters amp is at home at the moment so I'll use that until she takes it to uni then decide whether I want another nice Ashdown amp.
  6. Wasn't he that famous American bassist?
  7. I've been there. Start of last year, I fell out of love with it and sold all my gear. I bought my daughter a nice jazz bass for Christmas and spent a couple hours playing it before wrapping it and decided maybe I should get one. Now I have one but no amp or other gear reluctant to spend too much just in case.
  8. A luthier is a person who is professional trained and highly skilled in the art of wallet emptying.
  9. Prayers for rain - The Cure
  10. Rex Brown from Pantera is really good at filling the space behind he quite often plays a simple riff but with lots of additional fills to keep it busy. It's almost like a solo behind a solo. Floods is a good example of this
  11. Obviously the devil lived in Geezer's cabs
  12. Not a fan of RHCP at all. Too much slap and too many songs about California. I don't like slap or lyrics chosen purely for the number of syllables they have.
  13. Most funk I could take or leave but I can't stand Vulfpeck and the other bands of that style. It's music for musicians. I don't like slap either. I don't mind it as an accent tone (Billy Gould style) but constant slap just sounds awful to me. YouTube slap is the absolute worst, a million notes a minute resulting in something sounding like a filing cabinet falling down a staircase.
  14. Last night was Virus, The Blunders and Subhumans at The Exchange in Bristol. Virus opened with an excellent performance, great sound and plenty of energy. The Blunders went on second. Always a great performance. Punk with a hint of ska and relentless driving rhythms. One to dance to rather than mosh to. Subhumans were really excellent. Anarcho punk with plenty of political rage. A ton of energy from a bunch of old blokes. An excellent night.
  15. Do they do a multi scale version you can tune to G for metal dinner parties?
  16. I could use the 6" clamp instead of the 12"
  17. We bought my daughter a tidepool blue MIM player Jazz bass. I played it for a good hour before wrapping it, I sold all my gear at the start of the year and it persuaded me to get one do I bought myself a MIM standard precision
  18. I don't own a capo. I've got a G clamp though
  19. I've rewound the tuner keeping the string as low as possible and it's better but not ideal. I'll look at upgraded string trees
  20. I've just got a 20 year old P bass and the A string pops out of the slot in the nut when I bend the string. I could stop bending the A string but I'd rather fix it. Is it likely a worn nut?
  21. Behind blue eyes - Limp Bizkit An absolute abomination of a cover.
  22. Me too! If there's fuzz, I'm playing Dragonaut!
  23. I will look that up. Thanks. And out come the wolves has been my favourite record for a very long time.
  24. These may not be songs you'd usually listen to but as a bassist, I highly recommend having a listen to them. Maxwell Murders by Rancid Played by Matt Freeman and a great demonstration of what can be done in punk if you're a genius. State Of Non Return - Om Played by Al Cisneros. The bass is the lead instrument in this song. Interesting, Eastern influences, unusual sounds. A bit of a post rock masterpiece.
