When I bought my Thunderbird I went to the shop with the intention of buying a Gibson which was discounted to £1500. I tried it and liked it then just out of curiosity I tried the Epiphone Vintage Pro Thunderbird which was £499 and thought there really wasn't a grand worth of difference. I preferred the sound of the Epiphone as well so I went home with that and the shop dude was regretting mentioning how good the Epiphone was. I've also seen recent photos of Alice Cooper's bassist playing the Epiphone for live shows.

I'm using the Two Notes Le Bass preamp. It sounds fantastic. There's a clean and dirty channel plus the option to blend them in parallel or series. It's a tube preamp and has a great tone. It also has a cab sim on the XLR output which should work well with a PA

I notice in the article it quotes Glenn Hughes saying "it's good enough to record with" but doesn't go as far as saying he'd record with it. Maybe it's good enough for amateur bassists working on their projects. It's got an XLR output with cab sim which would be useful.

Really? I had a Crush 100 and it was a nice enough practice amp but certainly no studio amp. It had some really wooley distortion.

It may be worth trying a slimmed down board. Even pedals with a claimed true bypass can effect your signal.

I can't imagine Glenn Hughes would have a 50w solid state combo on stage. Even if it is purple.

I really wanted a Orange 4x10 and a green Matamp 4x10. I think I might need a purple Orange 4x10 as well now. Maybe a heading each colour as well.

No. Stingray's and a Thunderbird. I only play basses from the Gerry Anderson range. I did calculate it to 8 decimal places but thought that was a bit too much so rounded it to a more sensible 5 dp.

I paid £4.82 for a pack of 12 picks, that's 0.40167 pence per pick. I'm not drilling holes in them and devaluing them. I'm not a super rich rock star like you.

I'd open it up and check the internal fuse(s). Depending on the value of it, it may be worth taking it to an amp technician. I just had the complete 300w power section replaced in my amp plus uprated cooling fan and extra heat sinks for £130

It's very average. It sounds too much like too many other songs. Bland at best

I've recently changed from Ableton to Reaper. Ableton was good but my basic laptop runs a lot better with Reaper which seems to use a lot less power and is more intuitive. Reaper is also a lot cheaper for the full version which is only £60.

I also use a pick and take out a lot of mids on the eq. I find there's too much punch with a flat eq and I'm taking the same space that the guitars are in.

I've recently decided to simplify and the results have been superb. I've got rid of most of my pedals and just got a few top quality pedals. Boss TU3 Tuner. It just works reliably. Orange Fur Coat. I never use the octave function but the fuzz is nasty. Two Notes Le Bass. Really nice warmth to the clean channel, which I'm using as a boost and the dirty channel has a really nice distortion. The fusion setting sounds huge. The Origin Cali76 CB just does a superb job of keeping levels in check and giving a great tone.

I like to swap my picking positions quite a lot when playing, quite often picking at the bridge for verses and near the neck for choruses. It all goes well until I start to get a little sweat on my wrist and it sticks to the bass body andmy movements start to get a bit jerky and awkward. There must be a simple solution to this. Any suggestions?
