  1. Definitely. They're certainly the most creative metal band I've heard in a long time. They're all very talented musicians. I really like Michael's bass style, switching between long, lazy slides and super fast riffs seamlessly.
  2. Gojiras latest album, Fortitide has borrowed a lot of sound from Roots by Sepultura. It is very good though, just like Roots.
  3. This week I've been listening to a lot of Gojira. Mostly their new album. There's a definite influence from Sepulturas Roots album.
  4. Although the manufacturer should have rejected that through their QC, I'd have expected the shop to at least give it a check over before handing it over to you. My local shop has all guitars and basses checked over and set up by their guitar tech before the customer sees them. I think that's how it should be. Maybe margins are too tight for some shops to pay someone to do a proper set up.
  5. My favourite YouTube tutorial channel is Beholden To The Riff. Jered really breaks down the songs well and gives great tips on techniques and getting the tone. As well as song tutorials he has technical tutorials and gear reviews and endless enthusiasm for playing bass. It is mostly heavy metal but generally quite interesting songs rather than just smashing out death metal. He occasionally goes back to the roots of heavy music with songs from bands like Cream and Pink Floyd plus Black Sabbath are regularly featured and Geezers blues inspired bass lines are always fun https://youtube.com/channel/UC0B0JPGg6g6Y0jg5r43Sciw
  6. Leave it as it is ready for next spring
  7. I am quite ugly and have questionable fashion sense
  8. They know I'm pleased to be there and I'm excited about the music and that I respect their experience and ability. They also know I'll work on anything I'm having trouble with and it'll be improved at the next rehearsal.
  9. Thanks for the tips. I always lack confidence in most things I do so it's a bit worrying knowing I'm by far the least experienced. I really want this to work out, the music is all original and, in my opinion really very good. I think there's potential for the band and it's probably the best opportunity I'll get.
  10. That's what I'm hoping for. The others have 30+ years playing each compared to my 4 years. The two guitarists are amazing. I've got an awful lot of catching up to do. Hopefully It'll be a good learning opportunity.
  11. I've been with a band for a few months now and come to terms with my place as the least experienced and weakest member of the band. I don't feel that I'm at risk of getting the boot, we all get on well and I can play my parts but I do need guidance from other band members because I don't have their experience to immediately know what will work. During discussions around song writing I tend to keep quiet and listen to their ideas so maybe I come across as not being as interested or not wanting to contribute. I'm putting in the practice time to work on my weaknesses. But I just wondered whether anyone else here has been in a similar position? Any advice?
  12. Not quite. That would be rejected Trapt riffs. They made Slipknot seem like Led Zeppelin. They were terrible.
  13. I hear absolutely no Sabbath in their music. More like rejected riffs from Slipknot
  14. I never really listened to Ghost before and since they were mentioned above I thought I'd give it a bash. I won't be listening to them again. They sound like a cheesy pop group sampling some bad Swedish metal riffs. They are the ABBA of metal
  15. I think there's a few different types of heavy. There's the thrashy heavy of Slayer or the death heavy of Sepultura or the slow crushing doom heavy of Yob. I love the slow doom type heavy which makes you feel like the world is ending and Satan is rising with demons to destroy your soul. Its really lovely on a sunny afternoon. Where I feel challenged is thrashy grundcore like Napalm Death. I find it uncomfortable to listen to but that's how it should be. It's not intended as easy listening elevator music.
  16. A piano. There should be enough wood in it to make a raft and you can use the wire to tie it all together. If I'm not allowed that then I'll take Selma Hayek
  17. What happened to the heroes? Too much dirty bass tone and unhealthy diet. They needed more fruit, flash cars and women.
  18. Is there anywhere that sells replacement pickguards for the Sterling SUB 5? It looks very similar to the Musicman Stingray 5 but doesn't have the slider switch.
  19. I corrected that for you. I fear this may be unpopular though and I might be alone in my strong dislike for Primus
  20. The dude can clearly play very well and I think a lot of effort goes in to his videos, he's clearly rehearsed each tune to get that slick. I used to watch his videos but after about a dozen they all seemed the same.
  21. I'm now the happy owner of Mr Greek's SubRay 5. Top bloke, very nice bass. Cheers Mick
  22. Today is an old school Queens Of The Stone Age sort of day. Mexicola has been the song of the day. That bass tone on the intro is just disgusting 😎 I love their first four albums. Even named my youngest daughter Flo after Go With The Flow. Not really feeling their later stuff. I'd still say they've probably got the best killer : filler ratio of any major metal band.
  23. He does and here's the explanation And I always thought it was a tribute to Michael Jackson
  24. There's no way that dude had a career in 80's children's TV and isn't now in prison
  25. He was using a T bird in the video for this song that I was listening to. A very nice classic white one. He did definitely use Rics as well though.
