  1. Not an amazing bass line but Klaus's tone is particularly disgusting so it sounds great. The Dead Kennedys one and only attempt at new wave
  2. Are you OK with the qualifications of Dr Dre and Judge Jules? Surely Doctor and The Medics are all qualified medical professionals?
  3. Would you say the same about doctors, lawyers, architects etc? Try calling yourself any of those without any qualifications.
  4. I'm also a mechanical engineer. Qualified to the same level although I don't pay the imeche fees anymore so don't have the letters after my name. I completely disagree with you I'm afraid. Engineers often do make or fix things, I used to make lots of prototypes, I've installed new equipment, I've been out fault finding. A sound engineers job could definitely be described as engineering. They are diagnosing sound problems, manipulating acoustics, manipulating sound waves. They are applying physics to produce a product. There's a fair amount of art in what they do as well as science. Maybe they're closer to a BSc or maybe Ba qualified engineer rather than a BEng but they certainly deserve the title engineer far more than plenty of people who I deal with (project engineers especially).
  5. Youth was also asked for comment but was busy with a special cigarette and mixing another boy band album.
  6. Do Killing Joke count as new wave?
  7. I don't think I'd ever join a band with members who are in a relationship. I've never hear of that situation turning out good long term. Have you considered a hit man for the singer?
  8. I only ask because I was jamming with the guitarist in our band and he picked up a bass and started playing and we thought it sounded great. As long as there was an octave or more between us it sounded really good. If we strayed too close it got a bit muddy.
  9. Just listened to Sheriff Fat Man again. Quite clearly a synth, not a bass. Don't know where I got that idea
  10. I like that a lot.
  11. So I didn't imagine it!
  12. Are there any rock bands with two basses? I'm sure there was one back in the 90's, possibly Neds Atomic Dustbin or Carter USM
  13. Thanks. If it takes years then that's what it takes. At the moment I spend the first 15 minutes playing a simple riff to a metronome (Iron Man this evening) and then bash out some fun tunes for half an hour then half an hour to an hour working on whatever song I'm learning.
  14. That reference is going back a few years now!
  15. Fake your own death
  16. Thanks. We've got a really good drummer. I'm very aware that I'm the weak link in the band which is why I'm making a big effort to improve. I did try Scott's bass lessons but gave up because I didn't enjoy it. None of the practice pieces were anything I enjoyed playing so it became a chore.
  17. I need to improve my ability to play riffs with a normal mix of different length notes accurately to a beat.
  18. Jimmy Page walks his dog where I take mine and I see him quite often, looking as far from rock and roll as is possible. There are people who would pick up his dogs turds for the provenance. I'm sure I've seen people eyeing them up. I'm sure some of them would pay tens of thousands to buy his tatty old Honda as well.
  19. I really need to work on my timing. Are there any good exercises to help my playing get super tight?
  20. I bet he knows every single Levellers bass line
  21. I thought the whole point of brexit was to leave eurovision. The people voted leave. Out means out. It's the will of the people. No deal is better than a euro pop deal etc etc. Let's be honest, Britain could dig up Lennon and Harrison, bring them back to life and they could write the best ever Beatles song and Britain would still come last.
  22. Does it have the same pickups as the Thunderbird vintage pro?
  23. Not sure what it is really. Just not finding the aesthetic to my taste
  24. I liked them when I first saw them. Now I really don't like them.
  25. A competent bassist with a mask that looks like me.
