  1. A competent bassist with a mask that looks like me.
  2. Does a effects loop bypass the preamp?
  3. Would that cause any issues having three preamps in my signal chain? There would be one in the bass, one on my pedal board and one in my amp
  4. Miss seem to be coming back in to fashion in metal! The darkglass tone capsule doesn't seem to take out the mids. I've seen videos of people using them for all styles of music. We play metal but more of a blues based stoner metal (we aren't stoners) so the bass is quite forward in the mix. No drum solos yet but some of his fills are pretty huge.
  5. I'm going to get a 5 string Sterling Stingray and darkglass tone capsule. A compromise we're all happy with.
  6. Someone suggested to me getting a SUB ray 5 and fitting a Darkglass tone capsule. It seems like an interesting idea. Any thoughts on this?
  7. The Sterling Stingrays have Alnico pickups.
  8. It'll be my only 5 string but it'll only really be used for band stuff and it's all original music so I don't need to try to sound like anyone else. Maybe I need to go in to PMT and try both options.
  9. Nope. Once the Asian sounding banjo type thing started I just couldn't listen any more.
  10. Thanks dude. I'm thinking I'll probably go for the single pickup if the double sounds quite different. I'm playing metal so I'm wanting a punchy tone and decent clarity on the B string, which is something all Stingray models seem to have, even the SUB ray model.
  11. I'm thinking about buying a 5 string Musicman Sterling 5. What I can't decide is whether to get the single or double humbucker version. Does the double version sound the same as the single version when you switch it to bridge pickup only? There's also a two or three band eq option. Is there any downside to the 3 band?
  12. Once you try black you never go back. I would stick with the chrome electronics cover though
  13. It wasn't worth a watch
  14. The problem we had was the guitarist was so stoned most of the time he'd forget practice even if I phoned him in the morning to remind him. The singer was doing so much ketamin and coke she was always getting sick or she'd be just plain hungover. If they were particularly good or even just good people to be around I could forgive it. I soon realised the guitarist only knew three chords which weren't power chords and the singers lyrics were just absolute gibberish.
  15. Last band I joined was really unstable and there were two reasons, alcohol and drugs.
  16. Is it just me or is now a bad time to sell? Certainly towards the lower end of the market <£500 prices seem to be very low. £150 for a neck thru Peavey Zephyr and £120 for a modern Ibanez SR300 seems ridiculous
  17. A "relic" instrument. They never look quite right and it seems dishonest to try to make an instrument look like it's been used on 15 world tours when it's fresh out of the factory. Also Epiphones with Gibson logos and Squire's with Fender logos. The music equivalent of putting GTI badges on basic spec cars.
  18. Isn't fuzz a square wave where overdrive/distortion is a clipped sine wave?
  19. Come on. Everyone loves a Hail Satan Russian fuzz or a good Proco Rat You've just got to know how and when to use them.
  20. Some like distortion, some don't. If you don't like it, stay clean. If you do like it the fill yer boots with filthy distortion. I'm guessing those who dislike it probably don't like the styles of music most likely to use it anyway. I love a disgusting tone. I wish I could get somewhere near Lemmy's tone
  21. Hysteria sounds so much better with fuzz. It loses the character with the bass clean. I'm sure Chris Wolstenholme tried it clean before deciding it needed fuzz on the record and live.
  22. Muse Hysteria (fuzz) Royal Blood - Out of the Black (overdrive and octave) Cliff Burton - Anesthesia (fuzz wah)
  23. I've got a GP12 /4001 head. It sounds fantastic, really nice preamp but as I found out the power amps are a bit fragile, not helped by their age. Mine is currently being rebuilt with a modern power amp. Yours looks similar age to mine, mid 90's. It's well worth getting a Trace cab if you can find one with original speakers.
  24. They're difficult to define. Fuzz can be anywhere from a nice smooth Fuzz like on some Muse songs right up to fully disgusting fuzz tones like Sleep or Church of Misery would use.
