  1. I thought it was 45 days solid playing time?
  2. All sorted now. Turned out to be a dodgy string. They were only a couple months old but new string fitted and it's spot on plus the low A# string is now much brighter
  3. No, it's hitting a stop before the spring is compressed
  4. It's coming up sharp at the 12th fret. The bridge is at max adjustment and its still not close. strings are Ernie Ball Slinky 5 string so hex core.
  5. I guess the main purpose of a $35 pick is that you can tell people it's a $35 pick.
  6. Hi. I've joined a band who need the bass tuned to drop A#. The higher string of a 5 string isn't needed so I'd rather just use a low tuned 4 string. I've set it up with 130, 105, 85, 65 strings, filed the nut and set the action nicely but I cannot get decent intonation on the A# string. Could it be a problem with the bass or this low tuning? The bass is an Ibanez SR300, a cheap but usually solid instrument. I was planning to upgrade if I get on well with the band.
  7. Zeppelin were brilliant but I just think Sabbath were a bit more creative and original. I also think John Paul Jones was more impressive than Jimmy Page.
  8. Does a preamp boost the signal in the the amp or just shape the tone?
  9. It has to be Tony Iommi for me. A guitarist so influential that his playing started a completely new genre of music and a sub genre (doom) which is pretty much defined by ripping off Iommi riffs. You may disagree if you don't like metal.
  10. I'm a bit confused about preamp pedals (and life in general). My amp contains a preamp so would I use the preamp pedal in front of the amp preamp or in the effects loop? Preamp pedals seem to offer a good bit of tone shaping which is what I want.
  11. I don't think it's the switch as there would still be a clean signal through the pedal when the effect is off. It's also switching the indicator light on and off.
  12. Unless the repairs cost more than a new one.
  13. I've got an Orange Two Stroke boost /eq pedal which isn't working. The light comes on when I press the switch but no sound comes through whether it's on or off. I've removed it from the pedal board so it's isolated and there's nothing. I hear a little pop as I switch the effect on or off but that's it. Is it likely to be repairable or worth repairing?
  14. Are these slight differences I tone ever going to be noticeable in the mix with a band? I've been at gigs where the bassist has put down one bass and picked up a completely different one and it wasn't noticeable in the mix
  15. Tone isn't in the wood. Tone comes from the balls. That's just science
  16. The Elevator Music Band
  17. Brad's Pit Band
  18. Putrid entrails Satan's onanists Sludge eaters
  19. I've got a 30 year old amp which is very dusty inside and has a couple crackly knobs. My plan is to open it up, use an air duster to remove the dust and then a little contact cleaner carefully sprayed on the back of the knobs with a cloth to stop it going over everything else. Does that sound reasonable?
  20. There was a lot of good prog (Rush, Pink Floyd) but some of it was just ruined by trying to fit everything in one song. That's why I'm sure the new Honda Civic Type R was styled by an ex prog musician, they put in every feature they could think of.
  21. There's sections in that song which are really good but as a whole piece it's so disjointed and in places, bloody awful that it's just not a good song. Some of it is weird for the sake of being weird.
  22. It definitely makes a whole lot of sound. It's really loud
  23. This is what I've got. It just says GP12SMX on the front and 4001on the back.
  24. Mariah Carey. Twenty seven different notes in every single word. I have a theory that they sing like this to avoid holding any note long enough for you to hear that they're never actually hitting the right notes.
  25. I like the Beholden To The Riff channel. It's all doom and stoner metal themed. Great breakdowns of songs, something for all levels, nice tips and tricks and good gear reviews.
