The 4x12 and 1x15 Trace cabs are a very common combination among Trace Elliot owners but they're old (30 year old, original speakers) and I play loud so maybe that is the problem.

This one was mine. It's an old Peavey International. It now belongs to my daughter and looks really nice with a coat of surf green paint and some new hardware. It plays nice as well.

I've seen an Ibanez like that in a shop. It was a 7 string with the lower 3 being fretless. After doing a bit of googling I came to the conclusion that church bassists love them but everyone else thinks they're stupid

This has to be one of the ugliest and it sounds pretty nasty as well. It's Jerry Only of Misfits bass. He makes them himself but there was a company making and selling them for a short time, I can't remember who.

An Ampeg SVT all valve head would be perfect I don't think I'll get one for £600 unless it's heavily soiled / battered / fried / stolen

I've already got a valve preamp in front of the Orange. I should have mentioned that I've had a few amp failures and each time it's been the solid state power section so I was hoping an old all valve head would be more reliable.
